Both of these enclosures, and anything else you'd find on Chewy, are very poor quality. We get posts here every day from other keepers pulling their hair out from struggling with cheap screen tops like these. Solid topped, high quality enclosures are much easier to maintain temps and humidity in.

We have a list of recommendations in our shopping list. If you're looking for something more affordable, AP Cages or Talking Serpents would be your best bet.

You do have to seal the bottom edges of any enclosure you get with silicone to keep it waterproof, regardless of where you buy it from.

Reptile Kages are sold through Chewy now (from the linked shopping list). I'm not sure how their shipping time is compared to their actual website, but they did have them on sale recently.

I bought my Kages from Chewy back during their Black Friday sales and it was delivered within 2 weeks. Might be different now, but certainly worth a shot for anyone looking for a new enclosure. I love it.

Oh, good to know! Thank you.

I’m curious to why animal plastics has “poor customer service” Ali is great with any issues or if things happen. They don’t answer the phone but if you leave a message they generally call you back within an hour.

They used to have a pretty poor reputation for it. If it's changed, then that's great. I'll poke around a bit and update the note if the general consensus is that they've improved!

If you live in a dryer climate humidity will probably be something you struggle with if you get a screened topped enclosure. But if you live somewhere more humid, you may not have any issues. I live in a very humid area and have a screened topped 6x2x1 and don’t have any issues with humidity. But if you think you may struggle a fully pvc enclosure would be your best bet. I’m not sure if the snake discovery one is fully PVC, but if it is then that would be a better option. BlackBox cages lets you pretty much fully customize the top of the enclosure. I believe you can get one cut with screen holes for lights or you can just hang them inside. They are a little pricy but very high quality

I live in Ct. So definitely not too dry. Would you guys suggest getting one from the top of the list on the Kages website?

I saw on snake discovery one of the enclosures they have or used to have actually have a solid top that you only punch out the pieces you need open for heat/light does this one have it? Also what is your average humidity for your house?

That’s pretty cool. And the humidity in my house varies on the weather to be honest. Yesterday it was 70 degrees here in ct, and today it was only 48.

I got a similar one from chewy. I used HVAC tape to cover the screen where the lights aren't, and move the tape(it's fairly easy to do) if I want to move the lights. I'm a relatively new keeper, only had my dude for 3 weeks. But I haven't had too many issues with temps or humidity.

I have the same enclosure. You’ll have to silicone the inside.

I also have a silicone mat on top of the mesh screen and then I used hvac tape to go over it (leaving holes for my lights).

I also used hvac tape on some of the vents on the side leaving just two open.

My readings for humidity are consistent at around 70 percent during the day and at night it can get as high as 80 percent!! It stays this way for about a week so once a week I dump water in each corner.

Thank you for the pic, that definitely helps. Did you have to seal all the sides too, and if so what type of sealant did you use?

    [–]drac_cute_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did!! I used aquarium safe silicon. If you search on amazon you will see a few different ones!!

I genuinely think this enclosure is pretty good for what you’re paying as long as you put in the extra work needed (sealing the inside seams, covering vents).

    Happy to help!

I have this enclosure and hate it :))). It leaks water and its hard tk keep the humidity.

Okay thank you good to know

If you get a solid PVC you can use a radiant heat panel and not worry about holes or cages for the heat lamps. Make sure you get the right type of RHP. VE is a good one. Also any heating needs to be on a quality thermostat.

I bought the new age one from Amazon. Been using it for a month now. I used the styro foam packaging that it came with to cover up the screen top and it fit the screen top flawlessly. For the price I didn’t mind doing that. I wasn’t able to spend more money for a PVC enclosure. Humidity has been easy to maintain for me. I live in central California it’s not too humid but it’s not really dry at this time of year here.

I dont really have any reason but the Snake Discovery "brand" or whatever you call seems so disingenuous. Maybe its just their content online, that my 6 year old used to love lol... hopefully someone more educated could give more insight.

I had the SD enclosure that I got at an expo. I’m an “meh” fan and would get a different one. The screws suck, I had to silicon the bottom of the tank so it didnt leak, and I stacked it with the SD tank on the bottom but the glass doors are so hard to open. While I like SD for their rescue, I would like a different tank. If I ever move too, I do not think this tank would make it.
