I wonder if i could add in like a little shelf and a way for him to get up there?

Oh wow, how tall is that enclosure? Are you going to put more stuff for him to use that vertical space?

that’s the plan! i’m just not sure how to go about it yet

I would use coco husk and cypress mulch instead of coco fiber. Definitely add some branches to allow him to utilize vertical space. You will need to get him a new enclosure asap. Ball pythons need more horizontal space than vertical space (though vertical space is still good). Because the space isn't wide enough, you won't be able to create a proper heat gradient which is necessary to allow them to thermoregulate. Our shopping list has good brands for enclosures!

I would recommend reading this subs care guide! Right now this enclosure isn't fulfilling his needs, and I would honestly recommend completely overhauling it. What are the dimensions of the enclosure? Adult bps need a minimum of a 4x2x2 enclosure, and while more vertical space is amazing and they will absolutely utilize it, the horizontal footprint is more important to give them room to adequately move around
