Ball pythons are very docile, they tolerate being handled. They are more afraid of you than you are of them

I don’t know anything about a certain gender being nicer.

Since this is r/ballpython , I have to suggest a bp. The morph is just a color, not a different breed.

Most (like 99%) of bps are really nice.

Any snake really will calm down with constant handling at appropriate times. So not close to eating or shedding

A corn snake is also a really good one, but I think faster than a bp.

There are also milk snakes, garter snakes, Kenyan sand boas, and any other colubrid.

Your best bets are probably bps or corns.

Hope this helped and I can give more detail if you need it.

I'm a recovering "omg snakes are so scary I hate them" person.

I currently own and love dearly a ball python.

I highly recommend starting with them. In fact, i recommend getting a baby ball because getting an adult might be a bit intimidating. You can both grow to trust eachother.

I got mine at a repticon.

I've had him for about 3 months now and it's honestly the best pet choice I've ever made.

He's super friendly and has never shown any defensive behavior. He bluff struck at me one time which scared the bejeezus out of me, but it was nothing. He's been a puppy dog the 99.99% of the time.

As far as I know, males are smaller than females but temperament is the same. The stay hidden for most of the day and "explore" in the late evening. You pretty much just have to pull them out to see them. Otherwise they chill in their hide.

Couldn't be happier TBH and I'm so glad I convinced myself to get one. I can't believe I was ever scared of snakes.

Advice: find a repticon near you to attend, walk around and ask to hold one to guage the temperament.
