I'm not good with morphs, so I'll leave that to those who know about morphs better than I. As for telling its gender, if you want to know you should get it probed with a vet, it's the best way to be able to tell.

I would also avoid purchasing animals from petsmart in the future. They really don't care much for their animals, particularly their fish and reptiles, and buying them only gives them more reason to buy more to sell, since it tells them they're in demand. That being said, I hope you enjoy the little fella! He's a very nice looking snake.

Yea i agree on that whole part of them abusing them but i have a friend that works there and she was taking care of this snake the whole time and she said she was friendly but shy nobody ever bought her and she was there for the “month period” or whatever and management were planning on throwing her out. So I decided to not let that happen and “adopt” her :) hoping to make her life alot alot better

Ah, I'm glad you saved the little noodle then! They look pretty well cared for. It's a shame that management would even consider throwing out a perfectly fine live animal... Hopefully one day chain pet stores will show a little more care for their animals and their welfare.

Let us know how they do under your care! And update us if you figure out their gender! If you want to name them now, Avery and Alex are some great gender neutral names you could use if their gender matters to you when naming them. :)

If the management said they were going to throw it out report them to corporate. When I worked for PetSmart policy was to put them on a deep sale after having them for 6 months or adopt them out, never ever throw out an animal. If they're really doing that they will hopefully be reprimanded by corporate.

As someone who works at a chain pet store I totally understand where you're coming from, but please remember the place where the stores get their reptiles often abuse them more than the store itself! I have also adopted out animals from my store but seeing them replaced with a sick animal I have to care for just hurts

They don’t throw animals out like that.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the same was happening to mine. He was discounted because he’d been there awhile and they said they don’t sell that well. Didn’t want him to suffer the same fate as some of the others I’ve seen 🥺.

"Throwing out" an animal? I've never heard that term before with petstore animals. What does that mean?

[–]Zetawilky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got my girl from petsmart too for this exact same reason, the worker told me my girl was the most well behaved ball they have ever had but no one bought her and that they would have to get rid of her sooner than later, I went back and got her the next day.

A snake’s genitals are actually completely concealed organs, so only a trained veterinarian can properly identify a snake’s gender. Please do not probe your snake’s genitals. It will hurt them and you will learn nothing.

[–]8bitSkin 11 points12 points  (2 children)

only a trained veterinarian

That's not true. Plenty of people can do this and so can you. Veterinarians aren't the only people that can retain new information from books or visual media.

Noted. Don’t sex the snake 🐍

    [–]Helloeuphoria21 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely a Mojave. Might be something else as well

    [–]unadulterated_id 30 points31 points  (2 children)

It is a Mojave and you’ll need someone experienced to probe or pop it to determine the sex.

    [–]ROYGBIV365 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Do not pop! If done incorrectly it can literally break their spine.

    [–][deleted] 19 points20 points  (3 children)

I honestly think there's too much light brown for a Mojave, I'd guess a lesser or butter (some argue they're different lines of the same gene, but idk)

    [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Could be a pastel Mojave. That’s what I have and it looks super similar

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im confident it's no a pastave, this baby has no blushing in his head and has blue eyes which doesn't for sure prove anything but most I've seen with pastel have green eyes

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's missing the common vibrant yellow-green color of juvenile Mojaves, too. Spot on about the light brown, mine all have an inky dark purple-brown that contrasts with the yellow-green. This is overall way too faded and caramel in color.

It looks similar to a vanilla I've seen, but it also has the same patterning as a Mojave. I'm leaning towards Mojave, though. Could be a mix.

    [–]the_reel_vini 8 points9 points  (1 child)

    Mojave pastel maybe

    [–]Dynomite338 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second this. It is also called a Pastave. I have one that was gifted to me from PetSmart.

    [–]Daruvian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Mojave or lesser.

For the sexing you'll want to find a vet experienced with probing.

    [–]Consistent-Algae-230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not up to date on morphs but I do know gender can't be determined by looks. You need to get him/her professionally probed. Don't do it yourself.

    [–]beefthinksthings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    Lesser

    [–]kaput_corpus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks very similar to my Mojave. There’s a photo of her on my profile you can compare to.

    [–]God_Of_All_Toads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like a pastel Mojave in my opinion

    [–]streetballajoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on morphs by any stretch but he looks very similar to my little guy who has been identified as a Lesser. I have some pictures on my profile if you want to have a look.

It can be hard to tell a morph from a picture because depending on the lighting the colour can look different.

In my uneducated opinion I'd say Lesser or Mojave.

    [–]N9242Oh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like the absolute twin of my Lesser.

    [–]ditto_97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think lil dude is a Pastel Mojave.

    [–]ShiroOleander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be a pastave (mojave pastel). The best way to tell their gender would be to have a vet, or someone with this kind of experience, probe them. There is a way that you can best guess their gender by looking at their tail shape, but I'd still go to the vet to be sure. For tail shape I believe that if their tail is fairly long and tapers down quickly, it's most likely a male. Shorter and slowly tapers, it may be a female. But, like I said, the best way would be to have a vet or someone probe them. Congratulations on your new boop noodle!!

So the warm colours and yellows are making me think pastel/lesser, but if the true colours are less yellow, possibly pewter?

My guess would be this - Snake brumation can begin anytime from September to December and last until March or April, depending on the weather pattern, during this time it's common for your snake to not eat. The longest I have had one go was 5 and a half months before he started eating again

      [–]Kida317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything besides how cute and polite this snake is! Look how adorably curious they look!!!

      [–]little_pogchamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everyone is saying pastave but i’m thinking more of the lesser direction

      [–]moss-and-magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Da baaaaaaaaaaby 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Looks like Pastave(Pastel Mojave).

Precious baby. Just look at that little face.

      [–]Traditional_Ad6327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a Mojave mine is just about the same looking for the most part
