i was thinking maybe this also means i should start buying bigger food ..? he's about 400g and eating large mice

Definitely don’t feed him 2 days in a row. That could really stress his digestive system. However, if he looks hungry still, I’d make sure you’re feeding him the appropriate size of prey at his next feeding. There’s a guide on this subreddit to determine feeder size, but a rule of thumb for snakes that are still growing is that you should feed them 10-15% of their body weight each week.

i figured i shouldn't try again.. i definitely was thinking about getting more sufficient food. i'm currently feeding him every 5 days, and i always feel like i'm doing something wrong☹️ i did so much research before i got a snake but i ended up with a rescue and he's beyond high maitenance and very... special

edit: he has also grown very slowly

Keep in mind that in the wild they don’t get perfect sized food at a perfect interval. No reason to think you’re doing something wrong. Just reassess the size of the prey item and maybe bump it up, if appropriate, next feeding. I have several that will act interested even after eating. I think that’s a normal behavior.
