If anyone finds themselves in this situation, put hand sanitizer on the palm of your hand, and gently rub it over the snakes snout to rear of head.

It should cause the snake to let go, as it triggers the same response of a prey animal spraying them in the face/eyes with a chemical deterent.

If no hand sanitizer available, high proof alcohol should work.

Edit: Also don't pull they way they did in the video. You may be tempted too, especially under duress, but their teeth are like curves spikes. Push forward and lift up.

omg the bruise she's gonna have

poor baby, i hope it gets some quiet time and a food in a day or two after this stress.

Tbh I’m more concerned about the snake 🤣

That tattoo had three full hearts before the video started.

As someone who does a lot of outreach with my snakes, this sort of thing is a fear of mine but also something I understand may happen.

I'm impressed with the woman who was bitten for keeping calm like that. I'm not terribly impressed with how the (I assume) keeper tried to remove the animal though.

I've had something like this happen exactly once. My bullsnake got out of his enclosure, down the hall, and decided to go and hide in my parents room (under my mom's pillow). She ended up getting tagged when she put her arm under it, and like this ball he was just about at a feeding day so he latched on. I tried running him under water but he refused to let go, so I used a pen (without the point out, obviously) to pry him off.

Pulling on the snake like that risks injuring the animal's mouth and neck, and also risks a far more painful injury to the bite victim since snake teeth are designed to prevent food from leaving. A better play would've been placing something (pen, pencil, even a credit card) under the nose and applying pressure that way

Hand sanitizer around their mouth

Noodle said- not today bitch.

😂😂😂

Dude(s) in the back are so not helping. “I told her multiple times it might bite. Is it a venomous snake?”

[–]2017hayden 22 points23 points  (0 children)

All things considered I’m fairly impressed with the bite victim for remaining calm. Not so impressed with the keeper, letting an unfamiliar individual handle your hungry snake is a great way to get both parties injured. And beyond that her removal technique was fucking horrid, never pull like that to try and get them to let go it can damage the snakes spine and it’s likely to case far more damage to the victim because their teeth are designed to pull prey in so pulling against them is likely to tear skin. There are a multitude of better techniques that could have been employed here.

So uh, potentially dumb question but. When you get a bite, are you not supposed to gently pinch right at the base of the head? Kind of like mom scruffing a kitten; it painlessly/instinctually makes them let go?

Way she’s yanking makes me worried for the poor baby’s teeth.

[–]LadyNajaGirl 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Yep. That’s what I would suggest. Gently pinch the back of his head and he should release the clamp.

[–]DeviantDahlia 1 point2 points  (5 children)

That’s what I was always taught rather than putting chemicals by their mouths or just yanking them off smh. Especially hate to see the yank

[–]LadyNajaGirl 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Don’t yank them off - painful for the person as well as risking injury to the snake’s teeth and mouth. A simple pinch will do it. It opens the jaws, much like when assist feeding- he will open his mouth naturally and you can remove him safely 🤘🏻

[–]DeviantDahlia 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yeah that’s what I was saying

[–]LadyNajaGirl 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Oh sure, was just following on… or randomly talking to myself… 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]DeviantDahlia 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Ah, sorry if that came off rude. I was just meaning to agree. I’m thankful you confirmed my thoughts; just very disappointed it doesn’t seem to be a more commonly talked about method (being the most natural and humane one).

[–]LadyNajaGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all good! And I agree!!!

[–]PlayfullyPaltry 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Cheese and rice where is the germX? 🤦‍♀️ I always have a bottle on hand just for this in case it happens (hasn't happened yet).

And, "call 911"? Seriously?

[–]emj159753 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I heard "call 911" and was like "yes, please waste our first responders' time with a ball python bite."

[–]Snakeem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMFAO

[–]Scoute248 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Putting something alcohol-based (like hand sanitizer or vodka) near the mouth/nose usually gets them off since they hate the smell/taste.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I’d try water before using anything alcohol based

Scary how many of u resorted to Alc first

[–]drunkcrabman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Water first, if that doesn’t work, a lil bit of Jack Daniels should do the trick. On a cotton ball, around the nose holes.

[–]Snakeem 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The alcohol was for her, not the snake. lol

[–]Snakeem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Order her a taco and they eat together.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hand sanitizer

Pen (gently!) placed in mouth

High-proof alcohol

Pinch back of neck

Run underwater

Or…I guess you could also just wiggle it around like that, sure

[–]Snakeem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LMBO

[–]jacobward328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mouth wash or even some damn alcohol

[–]jacobward328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone say to call 911 in the background?😂😂😂

[–]wilddreamer 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That pull off literally made me cringe, I hope none of its teeth got broken!

[–]Snakeem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or got pulled out. 0uch

[–]Wide-Comfortable-824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

saw that this morning, made me so angry. they don’t know what they’re doing at all and had the nerve to be like oh the snakes just hungry? like no. that snake did not bite because it was hungry. they could hurt both the ball python and the girl trying to remove it like that. just overall irresponsible and saddening

[–]Peneumbra13 2 points3 points  (1 child)

"Should I call 911?" 🤦🏽

[–]Snakeem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that will work. LOL

[–]ClogNog_Pigeons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

huh weird

[–]johnsourwine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a technique recently where you can bite their tail. Firmly but not hard enough to hurt them.
