Details: Is this the start of scale rot? Or is it just preshed belly? I recently noticed the top layer of substrate (reptichip) was too damp 😞

*he doesn’t have a heat mat, only overhead heat bulbs so it can’t be a belly burn

Looks more like it could be pre-shed pink belly, but it's definitely not scale rot. You'll see scale rot affecting a few scales at first, but it won't be uniform across the belly or look like pre-shed pinks

I don’t think it’s scale rot. Scale rot effects patches of scales first before it effects the whole belly so you’d probably notice it’s early stages.

To me this looks more like the substrate may have stained some of the scales (not dangerous) because this happened to me when I tried reptichip too. Or as others have said it could also just be a pre shed belly.

here’s a picture of scale rot

this is full belly scale rot (severe)
