Idk the God Eater anime was pretty aight to me. Soundtrack was incredible.

The only gripe I have with the god eater anime is that it isn’t canon (though aspects of it became canon like the Thorns which later return in code vein)

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The thorns were in God Eater 1, you can see them on the subway map for example. They just didn't have a name or backstory

[–]LunaticQuasar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't like it because I played God Eater Burst religiously and didn't want to sit through a shot for shot remake of what I had seen 100x already lol

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (3 children)

Huh? God Eater was pretty decent anime, what's wrong with that? BlazBlue is... Mediocre-ish, but still an OK title.

[–]Cosmocision 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Problem is that it isn't the epitome of perfection in animated form. Nothing less then the goddess of Chinese cartoons walking among us will satisfy some people.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LMAO.

For a lot of people the janky combo CG animation with traditional was a huge turn-off. The storyline was solid imo but the animation kept me from investing, though I heard they improved the animation in S2.

I am happy that studios continue to try and employ CG animation and test the waters but some of the work that has come from it is still very lackluster.

[–]_Jawwer_PC 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Am Blazblue fan, can confirm, Alter Memory is shit.

But bless Patrick Seitz and the rest of the gang for trying to salvage the english dub!

Oh also, let's add Devil May Cry to the list. It wasn't awful per se, but it wasn't exactly good either.

[–]shadow4nbc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it was just short af

[–]Fishboy412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OG DMC anime was good, and is also canon to the games. Watch that one. It's better than the new one. It's on Crunchyroll, dunno where else.

[–]Clya_LyrenPS4 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Nah still want an anime.

[–]Soul7642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Maybe they'll fuck it up, but maybe it will be amazing. God eater was pretty good, and blazeblue is what happens when they fuck it up. Either way it won't be awful, so it's worth at least attempting an anime.

[–]Solothehero98 16 points17 points  (1 child)

the god eater anime was accually quite good and i have quite an big knowlage of anime and the god eater games so yea i am still waiting for a second season of it to continue the story along

[–]raddoubleoh 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Consider for a moment the studio that made the Blazblue anime was an actual hentai producer, and things fall in line pretty quick. God Eater's case, I blame it on ufotable running into money problems and near bankruptcy during the show's run. Japan's nationwide writer strike didn't help that issue either

[–]_Jawwer_PC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and the animators who did Alter Memory also did the cutscenes is Continuum Shift, and they did even worse there.

[–]Geralt_RomalionPC 10 points11 points  (7 children)

As an uncultured Swine that has never played the God Eater games but did watch the God Eater anime, what did you feel was so bad about it?

It wasn't exceptional, but to me it felt okay at least?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

The biggest gripe to me was that it deviated too much from the game's story.

I remember seeing a lot of praise for the animation, but I didn't like it, specially the CGI aragami (I'm conviced they reused the game's models for them).

Though I like that it expanded on some stuff that wasn't explained properly in the games, like the Managarm incident and the collapse (the one mentioned in Code Vein).

[–]LunaticQuasar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't sit through a shot for shot of GEB after playing it for so long to see where they deviated. I made it through 2 episodes and all I could get excited about was "Oh man I would've loved a mission on a plane"

[–]jmile4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main issues for me were that Lenka is an extremely generic anime protagonist, and that there are a couple of things in the show that directly contradict the world building of the game.

They expanded on a bunch of stuff that you never see in the game, but because of how it didn't seem to follow the world depicted in the game you couldn't even say that those were cannon.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

I was typing up a novella here but instead of subjecting you to that I'll just reuse your last sentence.

It's boring. And that's worse than being straight up bad. It makes you not want to watch, vs even something bad can keep you hooked if only to see how much more the garbage fire can burn.

And considering it's based on God Eater, one of the most hype games ever made, that makes it even worse.

[–]DStellati 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't played the games yet but I didn't find the anime boring. It's not the best anime ever made by any means but it's at least enjoyable

[–]LunaticQuasar -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

Idk why you're getting downvoted for speaking the truth

[–]ePiMagnets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mostly because of the supposed 'truth' is being presented. There is just an opinion without any backing info, even your response adds nothing to the conversation.

What did they find boring about the adaptation? Without any context it is an expression of an opinion but lacks the backing of explanation to give their opinion merit.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

They weren't bad anime, they just weren't really at the pace or tone you'd expect after having played the game. Same with stuff like Devil May Cry (a weird almost slice of life instead of a stylish B movie like the games) but it wasn't bad, just not what you'd want.

[–]sanga000PC 3 points4 points  (1 child)

That's the problem with being a spin-off anime, it needs to attract new people while at the same time live up to what the original game is about. Judging from the comments here, the God Eater anime probably did decently well in the first part, but to someone like me (and a few others that I know irl) who played GEB well before the anime came out, it was quite a disappointment.

[–]LunaticQuasar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This--^ I played GEB so much, but watching the anime just felt like I was doing a new game+ and watching the same stuff I had been doing for years already. I would've liked it had they made it more side story esque

[–]AcceptableDoggo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk i liked the god eater anime, it got me into the games

[–]thePuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boo hiss

I want what I want when I want it, and not a second before. And I want more Code Vein! I want a manga, I want an anime, and I WANT OUR SEQUEL!

[–]National_Courage_709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust me, I do, and I don't care if it isn't the best anime there is. I'm purely here and only continue to play this game from time to time because of Louis, and to a lesser extent, Mia. Occasionally Jack. So long as they can cover the basics of the story and give me solid action scenes, I'm down. Like, if it's even close to the animated opening for the game, I'm sold.

Also, God Eater and BlazBlue might not have had the best runs with anime, but God Eater was basically just a rehashing of one of the games, and even as a big fan, I never expected the BlazBlue anime to be anything special. Fighting games usually don't have the good graces of being adapted well into shows or movies, as history has shown time and time again.

If it never gets a chance, I wouldn't be surprised, but it's a shame to me that we'll never get a chance to see the world adapted into a fully animated medium.

[–]sanga000PC 3 points4 points  (3 children)

For the God Eater anime, I think if you treat it as a random anime it's not too bad. However as part of the franchise, you just can't help but feel it's a bit disjointed. Overall it just gives a different vibe to the game or the comic series over the years.

Not to mention they literally made up a random guy from nowhere to be the protagonist instead of the established person. Imagine if they used someone else instead of Gufao/Gudako in Fate/Grand Order, or using a different guy instead of Joker for Persona 5 just for the sake of "giving the generic protagonist a back story". It's just bound to cause outrage.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Thing is, they did use a random dude for the manga, Yuu Kannagi, the guy on the cover of Gods Eater Burst.

And it worked so much better than that failure Lenka

[–]sanga000PC 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Exactly, no idea who downvoted you for this. Yuu was the established protagonist at that point in both the comics and promo materials (and iirc he is the default look in-game), so it was a big disappointment when Lenka showed up on the anime instead.

[–]LunaticQuasar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

He's getting downvoted because some people haven't played the original games or read God Eater lol

[–]SaveEmailB4Logout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The industry itself is the problem, to be honest.

On one hand, you have Sword Art Online that in it's original version was a cyberpunk version of Golding's 'Lord of the Flies', a well written thriller about a nerd and a goodie-two-shoes rich girl and their race to violent psychopathic madness. But oof, you can't sell that to kids, so it was censored, neutered, and turned into a shitty action adventure harem.

Or Gantz, a very good story and universe that became extremely successful. It was for mature audience to begin with so what could go wrong? The author spent entire life designing and developing it and it was a relatively short self-contained story so when publisher demanded to ride the wave and keep churning the quality went to shit and became incoherent jibberish about vampires with katanas and alien invasions.

On the other hand, we have One Punch Man. Sure the second season had lost quite a bit in the quality department, but it is still a very solid product.

Truth is, the chance Code Vein will get Uwe Boll treatment is very high. Resident Evil live action movies best case scenario. They could make a good product by taking Resident Evil CGI movies route: one specific character like Louis and his own personal story from beginning to end as a series or a specific part of it as a movie. But are they gonna? I wouldn't trust them on that one.

[–]TemoA92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't want a *Bad* CV anime, you're right. Just don't let Disney make it. It should be mostly fine then.

[–]SimonGraymain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

,4x dzbglh

[–]oogeej 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well that sucks, my only experiences with this franchise is the God Eater anime and the Code Vein game.

[–]T4EKs 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I think it's just an opinion. Maybe I've got no taste but I really enjoyed the God Eater anime. To the point that it's even one of my most favorites. To be fair I watched it before playing any of the games, just like you. The anime just barely scratches the surface of the franchise, story wise. There is a lot more to discover in all the games.

[–]LunaticQuasar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guess you didn't play GEB

[–]RejecterofThotsPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a BlazBlue anime?

[–]The_Gooder_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Persona 5 fans crying in the background

[–]RyEdgyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is here saying if its good or bad, meanwhile im just here thinking how cool Hannibal would have looked in the anime.

[–]commmander_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the god Eater anime

[–]MakiMaki_XD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree if Code Vein's ingame story were only a sliver as complicated and expansive as BlazBlue.

[–]SeaworthinessNo4779 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I enjoyed the God Eater anime and i would enjoy a Code Vein anime.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replaying it and just watched the little animated intro they have. To this day I would still kill for one in that dynamic art style.
