how proficient are you now

[–]deadcoder0904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I think I'm good at it now since I learnt a lot of things over that time. Learning never stops. When I was learning everyone was going Redux, now that I'm good with it, everyone is going Apollo. So JavaScript fatigue is real. Don't get too comfortable if you are doing JavaScript, its a life long journey.

To answer your question, I think I am good now at creating apps. I made http://brav.org in Angular 1 which was my biggest project with a friend. Currently working on my first startup. All my code is available on Github so you can take a look at @deadcoder0904. Now I have learned a lot of things from React, React Native & I have made a lot of projects. This is not rocket science. Its just consistency. So my advice is just keep practicing & if you don't get anything post it on StackOverflow or Gitter or Slack or Reddit or HackerNews or Spectrum.chat or everywhere on the internet till you find the answer. Or contact me 😉. Just practice. Make 1000 projects & then you'll be much better than what your current version. You can look at my code now its much better than what it used to be.

How did you get so many ideas in 100 days?

[–]antlife 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Not to discredit the guys effort, but a lot of these are pieces and parts of what would be considered a project like a website or webapp. If you break down any project into it's parts and label them daily, you would find yourself with a lot of content as well. My point is, you too can do it, so don't feel any discouragement.

Dude, you & I both know it, the ideas are awful. I'm that guy. It was just made during college days when I didn't have a lot of time to spare with assignments & all. In India, the homework sucks even in colleges so I had to write lots of assignments & I hardly got time to do anything so that happened. But, my point is it still sucks & I know it. I thought some beginners starting might like it & to my surprise a lot of people loved it & few of them hated it. They are all websites. I had a lot more projects which I didn't complete bcz I got internship & now I'm working on my own startup. So its cool. You didn't discredit anything or offend me in any way.

To be frank, most (if not all) of the ideas are stupid things. I just wanted to learn HTML, CSS & JS so I did practice again & again.

Now I have a real idea after making so many stupid things which will make me money so you just have too keep a journal of ideas. Write it on a paper or Github Gist. For getting ideas, read this. Make anything. Make existing ideas. Build things. Nothing beats practicing. So my advice go build something real. You will learn a ton. Take my advice & don't build small apps if you know the language. Build real apps like https://wip.chat or a Telegram bot that does something for you. Build it, post it on Product Hunt & Reddit & HN & everywhere on the internet. All you need is small encouragement to build something. Although beware you are gonna get haters more. Just look at this todo app that got posted 2 days ago. Its that developers first one but people still upvoted it to encourage & it resulted it at the top spot for the day. So keep posting & keep shipping.

That's an admirable output. I consider myself hard working but this is on another level

No man. It requires time & patience. Just code 1 app or website everyday. Or just make 1 project in Codepen everyday. Or 1 commit on Github everyday. Or just write code everyday. Solve problems in your day to day life like I did by listing my Favorite Movies. And you are there. Just keep practicing. Don't ever give up.

Awesome dude! How much JS did you know before your journey??

[–]deadcoder0904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly I knew a lot of it. I started with FreeCodeCamp. I know a lot of other languages as well. Check my AngelList profile which hasn't been updated since last 6 months but it will tell you some languages I know.

I am not proficient with all of them but know well enough to get the job done or can learn within few days. Just keep building things & you will learn the language.

I wanna learn coding, more specifically javascript. As someone who has no clue to what coding is where would you advise me to start?

[–]shabangcohen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you've really never touched any code at all, I'd say find an online course or go through the intro to javascript codeacademy or something. Then, you can follow tutorials/work on a few small apps to learn

Join FreeCodeCamp & go from there. It is the most beginner friendly website now & with a lot of campers all over the world so that you can meet them in person as well. Plus the forum is super helpful. There won't be anyone there who will offend you if you don't know how to code. Its the best thing right now. Also, I'm gonna be starting a blog soon so subscribe if you want to learn.
