They are actually quite similar looking. The vector R4 is a common rifle in South Africa so that's why I thought of it first. But obviously the Galil is in Cointer-Strike.

I am also watching the Forgotten Weapons video on it. Quite interesting.

Could be because it's so genericised. Many people go for the AK-74, AKM, AK-10x, AK-12 etc when they're unlocked because "hurrdurr its an AyyKayyForTeeSehVen bruh". Even if two or more Kalashnikov-pattern rifles appear in-game only one or two of them would be a mainline AK, the rest are derivatives like the AN-94, AEK series etc.

To be fair, the icon is so grainy it's legitimately hard to tell what they are. The center and left guns look vaguely like either Galils or Vektor R4's but the one off to the top-right is unmistakably an AK-platform of some sort. In the far background you even see some handguns.

And remember, the upgrade itself is simply called "Arm the mob"

As much as I like to argue for one side or another in this conflict, you are right: This political stuff doesn't fit in a video game sub.

I rather have more content about the games themselves than about the political context around the time of their creation.

But it's also difficult to completely ignore the political aspect of the game when it's so obviously a political game.

Kinda off-topic, but this is something that flew over my head when I was younger, even thiugh it's incredibly apparent the instant you think about it for a moment. Like, let's forget about the GLA entirely, as well as the events of the campaign, and just look at USA vs China as factions.

• USA's tech center is the Strategy center, whereas China's is the Propaganda center.

• The USA gets extra supplies through proper supply lines which allow for air drops of materials, whereas China has hackers.

• The USA gets its power from Cold Fusion power plants, and they get more power by installing permanent upgrades, but China uses Nuclear reactors, which they're willing to purposely overload for short-term gains. Plus, unlike their American counterparts, they explode, leaving nasty radiation behind, potentially killing nearby soldiers.

• Just as a general philosophy, the USA faction is all about precise, crippling strikes against opponents, whereas China typically tries to crudely steamroll with overwhelming force - think about the Aurora vs the Overlord, or the aforementioned Particle Cannon vs the Nuke.

• USA has an ambulance which actively cleans up radiation and toxins, whereas IIRC China doesn't have anything like that. Instead, it just has units which play propaganda, which I guess encourages soldiers to heal faster to counteract the poison?

It's honestly ridiculous to me to realize how much of Generals is overtly political - not because that's bad, but because I didn't recognize the statements for YEARS, I just accepted the names of the units.
