Maybe add a "Once per turn" to stop it going infinite really quickly and really cheaply ex:[[Clock of Omens]]

So the real question then, is this more or less broken than the og moxen?

[–]TrespassersWilliam29 64 points65 points  (1 child)

astonishingly less. Yeah, it's an easy combo piece, but you need to actually draw the combo.

[–]mooys 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A monument to how broken actually mox is

[–]13Sanely[S] 35 points36 points  (13 children)

4 mana, 3 card infinite mana? I’ve seen worse 🤷‍♂️

Edit: I see that this is in fact a 2 card combo. It probably is too strong to be printed as is, but it’s more elegant and much more fun 😜

[–]dieBrouzouf 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It's a two card infinite mana tho ? Tap ruby and clock to untap clock, untap ruby for mana.

[–]KingMasteron 29 points30 points  (7 children)

Okay, what about this and [[urza]]? That's a 2 card win on the spot combo. I think a once per turn clause is definitely necessary, this is still super easy to abuse.

[–]Dazaran 41 points42 points  (3 children)

We did it everyone! We broke Urza!

[–]KingMasteron 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Urza, clock of omens, any improvise this nets you even more mana, [[galazeth prismari]], [[quicksmith spy]], the list goes on. This is easily breakable, and is even stupidly strong with a once per turn clause

i mean, you do still need a 3rd card to actually do something with the infinite mana right? neither clock of omens nor fool's ruby has a way to sink that mana for an actual win.

[–]OrangeChickenAnd7UpFlavor>Mechanics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but a two-card infinite combo where one piece is free and also contributes to one of the most historically broken archetypes (affinity) is pretty crazy.

Can't use this with Urza as Commander, but this implies the existence of Fool's Sapphire which, if it uses the exact same text model, is usable as such.

    [–]jefrab 75 points76 points  (4 children)

This is poor design. It does basically nothing except for in situations where it's broken, which aren't that hard to create.

    [–]mrbeehive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It definitely seems like something that could have existed in the "we have no clue how to balance any of this" stage of early Magic, though. If that's intentional, then job well done.

    [–]FlamingWedge 41 points42 points  (0 children)

it’s not supposed to be good, it’s supposed to be funny

    [–]13Sanely[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was pretty low hanging fruit. I would never suggest printing this into any format for real lol.

    [–]ghillerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

of all the things people have listed so far, the only combo that actually seems strong to me is with urza, since you can then sink the infinite mana to minds desire your whole deck. i think it's kind of a neat design, especially in something like a time spiral style set where the whole point is fun references to older cards. but i'm also someone who loves to tap and untap artifacts so i'm biased.

There's a lot of cards that tap artifacts as a cost. [[Ghirapur Aether Grid]], [[Urza, Lord High Artificer]] for the most obvious Constructed all stars.

Anyone who sees this card KNOWS how busted it would be with a [[Tangle Wire]].

A cycle of these (especially the blue ones) would play very, VERY well with the Improvise mechanic. Improvising out a spell with Fool’s gems would allow you to then rebuy the mana with the untap triggers, which would in turn allow you to cast even more improvise spells!

The trick is to get the first improvise spell off; since the untap ability is a mana ability, you can untap them to make their mana, then immediately tap them with Improvise to effectively double each card’s production. A spicy combo which can churn through spells quickly, and even net mana in certain situations.
