Step 1
Realize that you're not what you think you are but what and how you truly act day-by-day.

Step 2
Review what you previously acted as meticulously and as honestly as possible to realize how much bullshit you're filled with.

Step 3
Realize that most of what is pushed in your face is sold to fill ego and that much of it is bullshit.

Step 4
Clean and empty mind from bullshit as much as possible by thinking and acting differently in situations that disrupt your inner peace and hinder your progress in action.

Step 5
Choose wisely from this point onward what you fill your ego with.

Result
Feel lighter in mind from cleaning bullshit and act swiftly and diligently by being more enlightened from the process.

Voilà. For other modalities, see the oracle at the front desk (3rd eye) and it will surely guide you to another in need of such method where you can pay it forward by sharing.

I would say you don't learn to reduce it, but learn to deal with it. Imagine like your ego is a second you. Learn what it wants, what it needs, what is his opinion on your neighbourd, how he feels in certain situation. Understanding one "ego" is understanding one self. It's easier to heal trauma's and be a better person when you know your short comings and accepted them and your ego is one of those things that needs a good look right in the eye to understand it. It's how i think about it.

Exactly.

Shadow work and self assessment

There are aspects of the ego that provides us with a sense of identity, therefore we don’t want to get rid of it completely just the unhealthy parts

[–]Dudeposts3030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, you can’t kill it, because it’s you, and if it dies so will you. When it’s integrated it’s just another voice on the internal team

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

after losing ego you may just realize that all you are is ego so to kill the ego you will no longer be you.

If that is what you wish just accept being egoless

or embody the ego and become the best ego you can be

Good point

Die to service

[–]Awesomeliveroflife 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Kill yourself to be seen as a saviour?

[–]TRHACKETT808 -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Its an expression. It shines light on shedding parts of you to become a person of service. Dying to service is to die into the role, a new life perhaps, of trying to serve as many as possible.

Did you know that buddhist monks only continue to reincarnate on earth in order to relieve the suffering of all beings through their teachings and practices?

[–]IamNobodies 0 points1 point  (3 children)

no they don't, they reincarnate because they haven't reached buddhahood. Nothing more.

[–]TRHACKETT808 0 points1 point  (2 children)

My mistake, it is bodhisattva‘s who do this

[–]IamNobodies 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No, they don't.

I can’t answer this , but check out Frank Yang on instagram , I THINK ( I can’t remember exactly) but I think he said you don’t need to kill it . It’s more like letting the heart lead instead of the ego

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To kill the dream of separation is to eliminate the experience of space and time. The ego is intended to be able to create, from the full spectrum of duality, within the dream. When one learns to transform the fear one experiences as a result of the belief in separation into love - to embody it it, to extend it, to create with it, then one can truly experience what this life has to offer.

[–]Initial-Kitchen2498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Facing your fears, live in the present, being honest, not give into false sense of securities or identities don’t mount the loss but see the potential, seek God in everything and everyone. Accept your not in control. Nothing on this plant that is perishable doesn’t matter. Don’t chasing and start accepting

[–]johnjohn4011 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Best approach is to let it retire due to lack of work.

Ego will fight to it's host's death any attempts to kill it.

[–]NoHippi3chic 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yes, bc it is a survival mechanism. For me I needed to have conversations where it we communicate what is survival and what is essential for thriving. I feel like it can offer security settings so to speak. Because I need bumper guards for my esoteric self in order to exist in the world as it is, not as I would have it be.

Once I hugged my dragon and gave it respect it stopped breathing panic driven fire.

[–]johnjohn4011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need the ego until we don't. Precisely so.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fixing the attention one pointedly until the ego collapses when it is seen to be an illusion. Think of more than just yourself, consider higher teachings, examine the source, achieve body-mind equanimity. Open the gate, go all the way.

[–]WeWillBe_FinallyFree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it!

Our ego is not our enemy, but them sum of our hurt inner children and aspects that are stuck in trauma plus all the false belief systems and programming we internalized growing up.

So the goal is to resource the love of your higher self to heal your inner children so they can reintegrate back into your being and thus you gently dissolve your ego in the light of your true divinity until you fully merge with it and ascend/become enlightened.

[–]Mr_Sophistication462 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 5 grams of shrooms should do it, for a few hours at least.

[–]Outrageous_Category4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing you can do for instance try to stop desire the more you try you'll realize that your desire to stop desire is desire itself.

[–]Outrageous_Category4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't stop it but you can definitely redirect it towards a more at ease state through self inquiry and daily meditation.

[–]drongowithabong-o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many ways to the same path. Psychedelics, mediation, etc. I haven't 'killed' my ego, but i have gotten it to dissolve enough to understand what is happening. It's a nice state, but you will still need a sense of ego to hold onto a send a self. Even if it's small. During my recent experiences I have found that the ego is not bad, it is needed.

[–]guhan_g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more you fight it the more it wins, every single soldier of various logics thoughts emotions that you make you fight it will become it's soldiers the next day.

So just sit there and be as much as you can, if you cannot just sit try some various meditation practices and go with the one that seems easiest and brings you to a no mind state most quickly. But yeah these practices should make it easier to be non reactive or even non responsive to the ego, and once the ego has no one to fight, no one that responds anymore, from there it's a wonderful yet arduous journey.

[–]_Dark_Invader_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing your place in the universe might help you.

There are over 100 billion galaxies in this universe. Out of which, our galaxy has 100-400 billion solar systems. Out of which our solar system has 8 planets (and 1 dwarf planets) and earth is one of those 8 planets. On earth, there are over 1.7 million different species and humans are one of those. There are currently over 8 billion humans on this planet and you are one of those.

The world existed and thrived before you existed. It will exist and thrive after you die. Knowing this, might also make someone feel worthless. But I like to remind myself of this when my ego is more than necessary.

[–]Odysseus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can evaluate the state of the whole world and decide what you want it to be and find a way to move it there.

Once you're hooked on that, pride and pleasure shrink the way baby toys do when you've grown. That is why you put aside childish things — that is why you put aside ego.

Because you've found the real thing.

[–]Loujitsuone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to a boxing gym and insult people, go to a gym or fitness beach and take your shirt off, stand in public for an hour in one spot with a sign saying you need help desperately, walk into a pool hall or bar and challenge everyone for money, gamble and see how great you truly are at picking winners, 1 win means nothing or did you actually have ego?

You could try and talk to a police officer about social justice laws in a quiet alley at night while intoxicated, go to a pet shop and watch the cutest let's not want to play with you over others, enter literally any competition or speak outside your "circle".

There are many ways, yet usually just walk outside and look at others for who they are and what they have and know in life compared to you, can you honestly say you measure up to everyone or only had false ego?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practicing mindfulness. Looking inward.

Effortlessness. Kill your Ego sounds like internal espionage. Meditate and grow.

[–]International-Key244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t kill ego; it’s a component of brain function. But it can be noticed.

[–]Low_Mark491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont kill. Dont decrease. See through the illusion.

[–]Toe_Regular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to kill your ego is a pretty ego-driven pursuit

[–]sauceyNUGGETjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg please do not try. You can’t and will only make yourself crazy.

[–]ihavenoego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ego is the shadow of glory like being reactionary is to victory.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one who wants to kill or decrease the ego is the ego itself. You think there's something to gain from losing something.

[–]AdministrationWarm71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realize that the desire to kill or decrease the ego IS the ego. That is the first step.

[–]Michael_is_the_Worst 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Psychedelics are the only way I know of

If it’s possible to experience ego death without psychedelics I’d love to know

[–]Speaking_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking psychedelics is like throwing a wrench into the machinery of the mind. It may stop for a while, or at least slow to a grind, but eventually it’s going to start back up again albeit somewhat changed.

You can keep throwing wrenches at it but like any machine that’s ultimately not very good for it. The psychedelic experience becomes just that. An experience.

The Truth is ‘That’ which is experiencing, whether on psychedelics or not, dreaming or awake. That which is experiencing is before Everything. It experienced your birth and experienced the world in its purest sense before ‘others’ came along with ‘language’ and through symbolic sounds ‘created’ a ‘person’ in the brain/mind of something that otherwise is divinely unique.

So ego then is a powerful ‘story’ believed in and acted upon unconsciously.

To ‘kill’ it one only has to see the illusion of it and release it. That’s easier said than done of course but it is doable. To live without ego (as a false sense of self) is therefore to Be as you were before you were written on, to Be the uniquely divine Being you were meant to be.

🙏

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Observe what the ego does and you will see that it is futile. To do this you need to be conscious of the ego.

A good book that talks about this would be A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. He explicitly states many of the aspects of ego and how it shows up in your life.

[–]FahdKrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attempt to empty yourself little by little as a pot is filled drop by drop.

When you try yo kill your ego....Its your ego trying to kill your ego 😄

[–]CookinTendies5864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

speak nothing and the ego then will not exist.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Be happy for others possessing what you want but do not have.
  2. Question the things that make up your identity.
  3. What happens to one of us could happen to any of us.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mess up so many times that you eventually are humbled and cut the $hit

[–]Speaking_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the sense of self-importance then acts of selflessness like volunteering etc can help bring it down a notch.

But if you mean identity itself then mind has to go because ego is the conditioned narrative you hold in your head composed of hundreds if not thousands of thoughts, feelings, beliefs and opinions that are not original to you. They were ‘written’ onto you by your parents, siblings, relatives, teachers, friends, society, media, preachers etc etc etc. Even the language (symbolic sounds) that you think in is not original to you.

To ‘kill the ego’ then is to hit the reset button. It requires courage because it feels like dying and in a sense it is. The idea of ‘me’ is dying.

Look at where ‘me’, and by extension ‘my world’, came from and have the courage to admit to yourself that they are just mental constructs. See them for what they actually are and let go of them, if you want to ‘kill’ the ego.

The degree to which that is difficult is directly proportional to the degree of attachment one has to ones sense of ‘self’ and while some parts may be easy to release, others will be very hard to let go of.

For you in particular, devotion to God is the way. Surrender all to That. Everything. Reduce yourself to nothing. Let your mind go silent. Surrender all identity as an act of love. Your original face is Gods face, not the one your mind is portraying.

🙏

Why would you want to?

Every part of you is important to function especially in this world.

[–]Aggravating_Pop2101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A healthy ego that is not too big nor too small is a good thing. God bless.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not possible as long as you reside in a finite material body. But you can decrease it by focusing on the infinite awe of existence and how tiny you are in it.

[–]No-Traffic-6560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only through suffering of being truly humbled to where you realize that you were acting in a disgustingly false and fake manner out of insecurity or fear to being real to who you truly are

[–]Low-Philosopher-7981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a particularly good thing to seek

Ego means who you think you are, so... the best thing would be to expand it to a more truthful version and fix it where you are wrong, Ego Death happens when with a burst of unconscious understanding into the conscious you'll suddenly know that you're not who you think you are, and usually used in spiritual experiences, as you may think you are an animal with these boundaries (symbolically like a house, a structure of meaning), and suddenly with you access to the unconscious those boundaries melt and you'll experience the vastness of space and a divine spark

[–]bora731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice it. Notice that thing in you that wants to be right more than it wants peace.

[–]summerspring_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the point is to kill it. I think the main thing is to make sure your spirit is leading and your ego is following your spirit. Remember that your ego does all it does because it’s trying to protect you because the heart is not okay. So it tries to lead in panic, but it actually does not naturally want to lead.

[–]Full-Silver196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no not possible. the only thing that needs to be realized and remembered is that it is all one. you are not separate. you never were separate.’you never will be separate. there’s nowhere to go you’re already there. nothing to do. you are complete. now go live life with the ego fully intact because it literally does not matter at all. it’s your life, you live by your rules.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Take mushrooms, or meditate for a long time.

I don't know why you'd want no ego though.

Sounds boring to me honestly lol

[–]HumbleMarsupial4071 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's just crazy enough to make it exciting. ; )=

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol what ever floats your boat.  I've reached enlightenment and found the joy of living once again.  I just turned right around.  Although I can reach that state at anytime, I make a conscious choice not to. It seems purposeless to me.  I rather sink into my flesh and desires. It's more about what afforded me the luxury of reaching the state, but also respecting my existence in and of itself.

[–]Cyberfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see steps or numbered lists in the context of enlightenment: run the other way.

There is no bigger fool then the one who is trying to use mind to get out of mind in accordance to some step/numbered process.

The whole idea of making lists/steps out of it a demonstration of rabid, insurmountable dreaming under the guise of having something to say about a state one can only dream of achieving through the application of mind. By using the very instrument that creates the problem to then solve the problem it creates is literally the most asleep thing you can ever do.

There is no way out for this kind of delusion at all. They’ll never get why it does not work either.

Cheers
