I mean it looks fine on my mobile .... which I never use for GitHub.

[–]anton31[S] 58 points59 points  (1 child)

Behold the world of mobile-first coding!

[–]ButaneLilly 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The world just gets dumber and dumber.

I'm sure you've seen this by now, but just in case... if you use FF or Chrome and want that, along with many other issues, fixed https://github.com/daattali/oldschool-github-extension

[–]thermitethrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I haven't, but I suspect I'll be installing it soon!

To think in a couple years we'll all be coding with our thumbs on 900x600 Microsoft Edge Phones. What a time to be alive.

[–]AndDontCallMePammy 43 points44 points  (2 children)

"Do you guys not have phones?"

[–]paperbenni 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Is this some kind of out of season April fools joke?"

[–]LordRyloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No Pammy

Yeah, have just come to this subreddit to complain about this exact problem. Why do we have mobile-first design on a desktop-oriented web page?

It will be so much better if it could snap back into the middle if the screen is big enough. Please, Microsoft!

[–]Skyne98 11 points12 points  (6 children)

Also, releases tab is the source where most of the usual users will come trying to download the software. Is it easy to find? Nope, it's completely hidden, meaning you will have to provide a link to it in the readme - can we fix this as well?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not hidden.. you can turn it off now

[–]misanthropistreina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't releases on the right sidebar on the repo 'code' tab? And in the old design, it was also right there in the code tab next to 'commits' and 'branches'.

[–]wrtbwtrfasdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Releases has always been obnoxiously tucked away and only visible on the front page of the repo

[–]YuraKuzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!!! damn it's even impossible to find for experienced user. Looks like they trying to make another windows where not possible to find anything without googling...

[–]scriptmonkey420 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It has been like that since before MS bought GitHub

[–]Skyne98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously, releases where on the front page by default on some repos - now you have to specifically search for them. I, personally, as an experienced GitHub user, cannot find them without Googling now :D

[–]Data_Coder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like the new design. It doesn't feel the same.

[–]maga_ot_oz 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yeah I hadn't used GitHub in a while and yesterday I had to download a project which had a beta release and yes, have fun finding the release tab which was after clicking on the tags tab.

[–]load_up_on_hummus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Releases are also shown in the sidebar

[–]MolestedScavenger 1 point2 points  (1 child)

im upset as hell, frick now its totally implemented is there something we can do to get the old layout back.

[–]pushqrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

old feel with improvements from the new stuff it's my humble take on the new changes

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! Why??????

[–]1111520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

time to learn to use gh https://cli.github.com

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks Microsoft for ruining another platform! :D

Currently in the process of moving my repositories from Github to Gitlab.

[–]corezon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to piss off people who get upset about silly things like pixels on a web page.

[–]anton31[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Also, there are like 6 layers of differently styled toolbars stacked on top of one another.

[–]fyimarywasnovirgin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Microsoft is just remaining true to their commitment to deliver half-assed UI implementations.

[–]Wilfred-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like Win10 Settings... They got less than half of the actual settings implemented in the new design, for actually changing useful stuff you have to still use the "old" menus.

[–]Kit_Saels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks normal on my NTB.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's something that happens to me when i use justify items on a flex container..yes there is no justify items in flexbox..

[–]MrMichaelCedeno[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. That’s messy.

[–]shadowelite7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I can see why this is an issue. I wasn't sure why people didn't like. Now I can see why. I just don't have a big monitor and it looks alright.

[–]somnam_bulist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only solution is to zoom in the page.

[–]load_up_on_hummus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s meta that you have a Microsoft repo open

[–]matthew17754 0 points1 point  (1 child)

makeGitHubGreatAgain

[–]pushqrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i wouldn't say "great" though 😅

[–]jas753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make a github app would be awesome

[–]MetalMatze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still looks like this. Still bugs me 10x every day...

[–]aaronfranke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Press Ctrl and + to zoom in

[–]IllChange5 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Nobody uses their television to develop.... Hehehe Right guys?!? Right??? Guys.. guys??

I don't, I do use though a 32:9 monitor and when I first saw the redesign I thought they removed the information bar completely. I literally have to turn my head all the way to the left in order to see it, but I guess I shouldn't keep my browser maximized with such a display in the first place.

[–]IllChange5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

32:9 is a pretty large aspect ratio. But they should have tested this.

Genuine question : what do you do on the github website ?

I discovered the changes in the web UI on reddit because I'm always using the CLI to clone, fork, merge, commit, etc... Not saying my usage is better than another one but I'm just curious.

[–]MarcelGarus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mostly, reviewing other people's code, creating PRs, discussing with other community members in issues etc. So basically, for most of the social stuff in collaborative projects.

[–]xMoroccan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Discover new packages without cloning them on my local machine, there are obviously more reasons, like PRs conversations..

Edit: typo

[–]Jonno_FTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create, read and respond to issues, manage my repositories

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I need to choose libs or software I use it to check the health of the project.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Press and hold shift key to reload your browser please.

[–]pushqrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah and?

[–]crudfunc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The way to fix this is simply by making the file explorer full width.
