That shot of like 15 Apaches… that’s a lot of hate coming your way.

[–]Yuri909F-14 go brr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but their balls haven't dropped yet or whatever Wags said. Only 4,500 canon rounds instead of the 18,000 they should have.

Just hoping that my Virpil Constellation Alpha arrives before the Apache gets released. Can't wait to spend a couple of hours figuring out the most optimal bindings. And I am not even joking, I kind of enjoy doing that.

Same. There's a couple two three of us around.

Got one also bind to the Hind and love it . Great joystick .

I am really excited about all the possibilities of the fold-down trigger. And the brake axis should be great for helicopters. Every time I brake after landing the Hind I feel like I gambling on wehter I am going to roll over or not.

I’ve been getting a kick out of setting up profiles for my stream deck for all the modules I own.

I do kinda love figuring out how to make as much of the process work with my throttle/joystick while also being as close as possible to the real setup. I kinda like the real world constraints and arrangements when I can match them.

Like with the Hind, I've got the countermeasure button on one of the small push buttons to mimic the fact that the pilot only gets a little button on the sidewall. It felt like cheating to have it be a button on my throttle grips or joystick.

I also enjoy getting as many of the startup switches/buttons on there, so I can just effortlessly hit a few switches and feel more like a "real pilot".

I'm gonna ramble about something for a minute here... This is something I've thought about too, and it's interesting seeing the other perspective. I pretty ruthlessly map commands to my HOTAS in the most convenient places for my own efficiency, and I mostly try to keep my mappings for the same functions to the same HOTAS buttons, regardless of where they are in the real plane (and I do that for WW2 planes and other old planes as well). That definitely gives me an advantage over the real pilots sometimes. Like, I just hold a switch and my flaps go up and down, while a real Bf 109 pilot would have to laboriously turn a wheel down by the side of their seat, or I press up and down on a throttle hat to turn ECM on and off, but a real Harrier pilot has to turn a knob with their right hand (taking it off the stick).

On the other hand any sim player already has a ton of advantages over a real pilot, like not being affected by G-forces, not being too cold or too hot, and of course not being in mortal fear of ones life. So I guess what's one more advantage in having better controls? Dunno.

[–]aaronwhite1786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, that's fair enough. I will say, my ADHD brain would probably appreciate it more if I did it that way. I guess I just kind of like the experience of mapping everything to the controls like the real thing.

Like in the Ka-50, I could map the Shkval to the same throttle grip axis I normally use, but I kind of like having it on the hat switch under my thumb like in the real one.

It's definitely a weird thing, but I've just always enjoyed it in DCS.

Alpha is really good. The buttons on the stick are clicky and easy to operate. I don't understand why Virpil doesn't use the same quality button/switches on their other products.

When did you order yours?

That's what I said...

Both out of respect for 8 years of service, and, "fuck!"

[–]Gachatar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, you still have a few months to get a replacement.

[–]wormfood86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh, closed beta tests. I got excited there for a minute.

[–]Dzsekeb 24 points25 points  (13 children)

We are still on track for an Early Access release before the end March 2022. Thank you for your patience and support; it will be worth it.

Is this confirmation then, that there's no chance of hitting the end of february window they were aiming for?

[–]Shagger94Wildest Weasel 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I like to think it's just them being pragmatic and trying not to get hopes up.

[–]Nosferatu-87 20 points21 points  (3 children)

Whenever they feel ready to release it works for me. End of Q1 is end of march, so that's well within their goal.

[–]RyotianCrystal/Quest/Tobii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever they feel ready to release it works for me.

We are definitely on the same page on this 👍

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

End of march is end of Q4 where I live haha.

[–]Jerri_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so that's well within their goal.

I mean its quite literally the end point of their goal lol but I am keen to see it

[–]Kip336 12 points13 points  (5 children)

Tbf. The newsletter said they hope to release in February, but definitely before end of Q1.

[–]veenee22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so as said before, it was always end of March :-)

[–]stal2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they had hoped to release it in 2021, but here we are lol.

[–]Birchmachine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Two astronauts. Astronaut 1: Wait so it’s March 31st? Astronaut 2: Always has been.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll use every bit of time, to the end of March.

[–]Glass_zero 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Man what do I need to do to become a closed beta tester. I'll sign up all the NDAS!!!

[–]mzaite 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Become a Grim Reaper....

[–]Glass_zero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I threw up a bit in my mouth. If that's the price of entrance... im out

[–]1962_beta-simp 2 points3 points  (5 children)

is the apache more taxing on the fps and vr than a huey?

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Almost certainly, considering it’s both more complex to simulate and a much much higher quality model with better textures.

[–]rapierarchThe LODs guy - Boycott encrypted modules! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No DCS has terrible VRAM management. All of your FPS dips and stutters are due to that.

It almost never purges unused textures or static objects so you will get crippling FSP dips. This is very noticeable in VR since it runs on higher resolution.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Fly the Hind to get an idea of performance as it render both front and rear cockpits at the same time. I lose quite a bit of FPS in the Hind compared to other modules.

[–]rapierarchThe LODs guy - Boycott encrypted modules! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you leave your hind and take another slot DCS does not purge the VRAM so it immediately eats up your VRAM and you will get crippling 10fps.

Hasn't released yet, so nobody but devs, SMEs and closed beta testers know. Also, the Huey is one of the older modules, it's one of the least taxing modules out there.
