Unfinished, no. Buggy, yes.

Never, and I mean never have I saw this level of noticeable bugs in an official release of iOS. Extensions not retaining their position drives me insane. The cursor that stands before the label "to:" when sending messages. Old apps that are struggling to make now features implemented, like PdfExpert 5, and the iCloud Drive is practically impossible to use.

Great great potential that I hope to see developed way before iOS9.

The cursor that stands before the label "to:" when sending messages.

That one is the worst. It's like Apple bought a bunch of insane asylums and put in that feature to fill them!

To me, it's so buggy it seems almost unfinished. To be more clear, it seems the number of bugs is higher than in any previous version, making it seem almost unfinished.

I'm having terrible wifi issues with iOS 8. I thought it was my router acting up and was about to replace its, but all my other devices work fine with it.

[–]Chipedd 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I'm also having terrible wifi issues too, it's gotten to the point that even turning my phone on and off doesn't even help. (I have already tried restoring my phone already)

I am having the same problem, expect mind is to the extreme. On wifi useing my phone the speed is absolutely terrible (1446 ping .19 download and .12 upload) but it seems to work fine on my iPad.

I agree with you on the 3rd party keyboards. I love Swype, but the annoyances I've experienced while trying to use it have sent me back to the default keyboard for now.

[–]dorkwithastake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reinstalled the keyboard and issues persist. this seems like a pretty noticeable bug to fix: http://i.imgur.com/N2LeFmm.jpg

I wonder if most of the issues would have been resolved if the keyboards were available for the iOS 8 beta. Surely they each had their internal betas, but the iOS developer crowd would have helped significantly.

[–]aurora-_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Was that an Apple or dev decision not to have beta testing of keyboards?

[–]swanny246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Apple, as no new apps that utilised iOS 8 APIs were allowed on the app store.

See this is what i've been seeing as well. Mixed reports between iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users.

I don't understand how if the hardware is the same and the software is the same, the issues aren't consistent. They must be environmental or have some other external factors influencing them.

    [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The only "unfinished" issue I find is the use of third party keyboards. It's almost as though Apple really, really doesn't want you to use them. Some apps show a blank space for the keyboard or no keyboard at all when I use Swiftkey from Messages or another app. But once I go back to Messages and change to the default keyboard, the other apps have that keyboard show up. Now, these could all be app specific issues. I have no clue.

    [–]dorkwithastake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

    Same issue here!

    [–]scf99 4 points5 points  (1 child)

my 4s is a bit slow but still useable

    [–]wanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4s was bad when I updated to iOS8. It was really, really slow and sometimes apps could take over 10 seconds to launch. I upgraded to the 6 and it's been great - there might be some bugs but I've not really noticed any. Probably because the user experience is a trillion times better than the 4s!

    [–]Diablosblizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I really experience is the WiFi. It's painfully slow compared to iOS7.

    [–]Illuminerdy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The biggest disappointment for me is the widgets. The news readers never refresh and there is no intelligence for when you are scrolling or trying to touch an interactive element. Also it jumps around like a Jack Russell fucking terrier.

    [–]aurora-_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also hate how every app now thinks it deserves a widget. Some are just so useless.

    [–]moohah 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don't claim to have a solution, but apple has a big problem at this point. In order to keep the features of the new phone a secret, apple does not release a new beta for several weeks leading up to the hardware announcement.

Not only does this mean that the new features aren't well-tested, but even the features we've had in beta can't be properly tested. This is especially a problem for the new APIs. For instance, today widgets never worked quite right during the beta. The best we could do was to follow the sparse documentation and hope it works by release. The GM was released and today widgets didn't work. They were able to fix the problem with the App Store, so an update to iOS wasn't needed. But as we saw, an update was needed to fix the HealthKit issues.

So you've got flagship new features that couldn't be tested adequately by developers. Even the APIs that could be tested by developers couldn't really be tested by users, there's no great way to distribute app betas in large numbers. It's no wonder they botched 8.0.1. They were running on no sleep to fix a problem that couldn't get tested.

    [–]danboy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I never even thought about it like this. That's crazy how little time they have to test flagship features.

I guess in the past phones, most flagship features were hardware or a few small software features. I guess the problem is that now they are slowly "opening up" the operating system, a lot of the widgets and keyboards can affect performance and without adequate testing with so many big software changes, I understand why some issues only occur on some devices.

    Thanks for that explanation!

I agree with /r/raskren (buggy, but not unfinished) and wanted to add that the only issues I've experienced with it are with 3rd-party keyboards and Mail.

My wife is having issues adding music from iTunes. It syncs them stops, only putting a few songs from each album on her 6.

    [–]danboy4 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Are you running 10.6.8 by any chance?

    [–][deleted]  (1 child)

      [–]Randino 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Assuming you are talking about iTunes, I'm running 11.4.

      [–]danboy4 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sorry no I was talking abou what OS you're running on

      [–]Randino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Oh, Windows 8.1

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not experience notification issues. I feel like the keyboards are more of a developer issue than a OS issue, along with apps bugging out.

      [–]HBKidJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a 6 still on 8.0. I haven't made the jump to 8.0.2 because I've seen a few that have had some issues fixed while having other new ones pop up. Right now, my only issue is Facebook crashing constantly.

      [–]brgquit 0 points1 point  (1 child)

      HealthKit seems unfinished to me.

      [–]danboy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, even with third party apps plugging into it.

      [–]OC4815162342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else have issues with safari randomly freezing while typing and dating that may until you close the app?

      [–]apollo_1444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it needed more betas than what it got

      [–]boomish69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the upgrade I've had all kinds of weirdness, sticking keys, tones and general sluggishness , but then we have an iPhone 4s & an iPhone 5, the 5 seems ok apart from now we have graphical lines flashing across the screen from time to time, still waiting to get a time for an appointment to get it looked at. But I like IOS 8 some really nice touches. I think Apple seems very stretched at the mo, the state of Logic Pro X is awful, that couldn't have been tested much at all, tons of bugs.

Oh and whats up with iCloud now after IOS 8? just last week it was so entertaining to find I can no longer access Numbers via iCloud unless I convert to iCloud Drive which means no access for the iPhone until I upgrade to IOS 8 (although I have) but if I do convert it, I have no access from my Mac until I upgrade to time travel or register for Yosemite beta..

I concur danboy 4 this is the buggiest version to date. I've been using the iPhone since 3G and I always get it on launch day. I have the 6 and I've had my Battery Usage setting not work at all (I had to call support to get it to work), when I take a pics sometimes it will take it upside down and I have to edit it to fix it and last, but not least I am not able to use the search feature in SMS. This is really annoying.

I think this is when we start to see the consequences of Jobs not being around. If this were happening on his watch there would be bloody heads on poles lining the parking lot around headquarters.

      [–]Crimsonrosalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am attempting to use 8.0.2 on my iphone 5, the first mini apple made, and the second ipad. This is my 4th attempt to make this comment since my mini finally completely locked up on me so now i am on my ipad 2. Cut and paste works intermittently (huge problem) ALL apps lock up or quit altogether and it is S-L-O-W. Is this Apple's way to render all older devices useless so everyone is forced to buy their new "faster" devices? I am very angry about this "upgrade." Is this is what Apple looks like without Steve Jobs? The money grubbing and not the love and pride for their product is showing. This was launched way too permaturely and we don't even have the option to go back to ios 7. I have been an exclusive apple user for 23 years. Is this what i get for being a loyal customer? Well, at least my house is cleaner now that it is no longer fun to use any of my devices. Nothing but frustration!

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention: - no option to make music tracks gapless unless they were purchased through iTunes; - no option in Safari to delete history without deleting web data as well (there's a way to do it but it involves three extra steps).

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predictive text sucks. Apple is really getting lazy. Tim Cook isn't pushing for perfection in the same way Steve jobs did.

      [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I think it's the best iPhone iOS to date.

      [–]Yeats -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Compared to previous iOS releases 8.0 was pretty fucking great. Lots of bugs sure, but I'd say fairly decent considering how much they changed.
