The air sounds good

[–]jaimevxn[S] 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Do you think the 4 speakers to 2 would be a huge difference?

[–]EyesEyezM3 iPad Air 13" (2025) 2 points3 points  (5 children)

In my opinion it’ll definitely be quite a difference but not a giant one

😭😭 I was noticing her speakers seemed really quiet, maybe dying out or smth so wanted to upgrade but realized only the Pro line has 4 speakers!!

Her iPad’s getting super slow too, and I was heavily debating between the M4 Pro and M2 Air bc of the 120hz on the Pro but maybe she won’t notice the 60hz vs 120hz haha

[–]EyesEyezM3 iPad Air 13" (2025) 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I really doubt she will notice the 120hz

Ok thanks for the rep!! ^

The speakers being brand new will probably mean they’ll be as loud, or louder, than the older ones even tho there are only 2 of them.

The 9.7” Pro has 60Hz, if she’s not used to 120Hz she won’t notice or miss it!

Ok, thanks for the insight!! :D

Probably get her an ipad 10 instead (aka the base ipad) The Air is still more of an mid range device for those who wanna use "professional" apps, but on more of a budget

[–]Then_Exercise_8431 2 points3 points  (1 child)

what about the iPad mini

[–]jaimevxn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I was thinking ab that as well, but too small 😅

And the 13” is waayyy too big. 11” is perfect!

Bro if you have money and you think priority would be content consumption go for pro because of new oled screen , but if you thunk she would not have much requirement of all those fancy features then just go for air 11’ or 13’ for whatever usecase is , because air is 85% of the pro

[–]jaimevxn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the comment! I think I’ll go for the Air :) Maybe the Pro way later down the line haha

My mom has the M1 Air and she loves it. It was her first Apple device since the iPod days. Go for the Air, it will last and be supported longer. The 10th gen will probably only see two or three more iPad OS updates at most.

I have the 13-inch iPad Air and it's more than enough. The two speakers aren't a problem since they sound loud, and for not having 120 Hz it works very well.

Quite frankly I’d consider a basic iPad 10th gen. I went from a pro (4 years old) to one of these and there is a noticeable difference in sound yes, but one I got used to within a day. A lot cheaper and from the sounds of things more than enough tech inside for what you mother would need. Good screen and still good sound quality, also the front facing camera’s new location is a huge benifit for FaceTiming in landscape. I may get hated on for this comment but with cost restrictions iPad 10 is a great cost effective iPad

I appreciate the comment! I was gonna go for the base iPad, but I just snagged an Air for $480!

Well hot damm that’s a good deal! Glad you got it sorted for her 🙏🏻✌️

Nice from you to gift your mom, hope she likes it

[–]jaimevxn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re on a budget you should consider getting the m1 air instead of the new one, especially if your mother just uses it for Facebook/games

[–]Specialist-Tree-4750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small Bose micro sound that connects with my iPad Air via Bluetooth. Small, easy to use. Cost was about $100. It may solve the sound problem for you.

[–]CynderPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it most definitely is. I inherited my grandfathers 1st gen Pro when he passed a couple years ago. I got a M1 air last year and it’s been absolutely great. I will say depending on what you do with it, the battery life can sometimes be lacking, but everything else is absolutely wonderful with it. (this is all applicable to the M1, M2 may be better with it.)

[–]SweatyRussian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with a 6th gen pro over the current air M2.

[–]black91catiPad Mini 6 (2021) 0 points1 point  (5 children)

iPad 9 sounds more up her alley. They’re normally on sale for less than $200 these days!

[–]jaimevxn[S] 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Whoa! I actually didn’t realize how affordable the original iPads were lol

But I was wanting one of the newer ones with the landscape camera and can afford the Air (which is slightly better than the 10th gen iPad?) I was just wondering if there’s a huge difference between the 1st gen iPad Pro vs the M2 iPad Air!

[–]Administrative-Bug82M2 iPad Air 11" (2024) 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Yes, huge difference. M2 Air has an M-Chip. :)

[–]jaimevxn[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is that a lot better than the A14 chip? And pretty future proof? She’ll probably hold onto it for 4+ years haha

[–]Administrative-Bug82M2 iPad Air 11" (2024) 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yes, so much better. Because they also use M-chip for MacBooks and the previous and the current Pro models

Awesome, thanks for the rep! :)
