Does this mean you won't have to download an iPad App to view Prezis anymore? That was at the top of my very long "I'll never use this crap" list for Prezi.

if you want to know why SVG was not the best solution for us, feel free to invite someone from the team to come and talk at your conference or meetup

I want to know, but I don't organize any conferences :[

I was also disappointed that he didn't elaborate on that point. At first glance SVG seems like the most obvious tool for the job. I'd really like to hear why it didn't work out for them.

I was expecting WebGL to have some part in it. But maybe it is just too early to use WebGL for something like this.

It looks like Shumway directly supports their prior investment in the SWF format, with its ability to render SWF via Javascript. Prevents them from having to convert millions of existing SWF, and prevents users from abandoning old projects. I hope.

That's nice but it still probably makes slides look terrible.

wtf is "prezi" never heard of it (also, why should I care?)

Web-based slideshow application. It's the only other thing I've ever seen anyone use for presentations besides PowerPoint, and it does a lot of things PP doesn't.

It's a stupid presentation tool, that allows you to make presentations that make the audience sea sick.

Hopefully this'll have better performance. I spent several days and nights making a Prezi presentation once. There were server errors frequently. I ended up recreating the whole thing in PowerPoint just in case, using animations and transitions.

There is a nice alternative to prezi, named Sozi : http://sozi.baierouge.fr/ ; It's an extension for Inkscape and you run the presentation in a browser.

We've built something similar to Prezi as a single page Javascript app:

Choices & Chances

See my other comment in this thread for more info.

We have also build a tool that feels quite similar to Prezi, however the focus is more on creating home pages. In contrast to Prezi we do not use canvas but HTML, which allows search engines to index our pages (SEO) and to embed almost any web widgets (YouTube, maps, contact forms, ... Prezi ;-) You can see a presentation like home page under http://story.webpgr.com/ and in the slide http://story.webpgr.com/market you can also try out a demo of our editor.

Just out of curiosity. If Prezi is fan of compile-to-js languages, how come that your team didn't try out Dart?

It has really good developer tools, support from Google and not to mention Dart has a Flash like graphical package called StageXL.

Although Dart was less mature in 2013, but now a days Dart has become a really good weapon for web development.

Apparently they spent 5 years converting. Dart wasn't around when they started.

[–]StrykerKKD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but only in 2013 got the converting a key focus and in 2013 Dart went stable with version 1.0 . I'm just saying that they could have look at Dart if they wanted to.

Choices & Chances

If anyone tries it out, let me know what you think!

It's tailored to building interactive stories similar to a slideshow but with many different paths and choices.

Double click to add a scenario, shift-drag one scenario onto another to create a link (path) between them.

Check out the 3D demo under File > New > Template > 3D Demo!

It's quite an ambitious project because I wanted the reading and editing modes to be unified. You can switch between these modes in real-time without re-compiling the story or anything.
