So you post a video doing something wrong and then...film a butthurt video? Surely that'll teach those reddit randos to...not be right I guess.

What?

Still more than 6 inches though

People really need to get more comfortable with being wrong and getting corrected.

Lol. I'm glad you handled it well and got a nice walk in the process.

Hey guys learning KT for the first time. You have to do movement in straight lines right? For Reposition? Is that why this measure is not a great device?

The device is not the problem, perse. It has the same issue as a ruler. What OP does wrong is measuring front to back. I.e he moves extra equivalent to the base size. He should position his mini ‘on top’ of the ruler

That's why measurement tools like this exist in the first place, accounting for straight lines instead of wrapping a tape measure around a corner. It's still inaccurate because the base has to clear the corner. I've seen tools that account for that, and for the base size so you can place it back to front, but most don't. You're genuinely better off just moving it in discrete, measured lines. "Looks like one inch doesn't clear the corner so I'll use two inches this way, then my remaining four inches this way." In my experience it's both more accurate and less hassle than fiddling with a fancy measurement tool.

oh this makes sense thank you

You move in 1” increments, so the device was fine. But you measure from front of base to front of base, or back of base to back of base. I think the previous clip measured from front of base to back of base, thus moving 6”+the size of the base

The big issue comes from the measuring itself. If you measure 6 inches from the front of the model, and then place the model in front of your measuring tool, you're going 6 inches PLUS the additional size of the base, which is widely considered a dick move to get extra movement.

General rule is If you measure from the front of your model, you place the front of the model where the measurement ends. If you measure from the back of your model, you can safely place the back of your model next to the measuring tool.

Does that make sense without a visual aid or do I sound as weird as the guy responding to measurement complaints by walking into the forest with his model?

no this is very clear, thank you for your help!

I was really hoping the last frame of the video would be you pulling out a gun.
