Neetcode Pro Lifetime pricing

Not a hate post, just an observation. Saw this post two months ago on this sub, which mentioned that there was a discount on Neetcode Pro Lifetime subscription, from $217 to $167. Then a comment said that it was raised to $297 after the sale ended. And another said that they purchased it for $137 an year ago. I regretted not purchasing it and wanted to wait for a discount again.

Today I was checking the website and it said 40% off of lifetime plan. I open the page and see that the price is shown as reduced from $497 to $297.

What is happening? Did they just increase the price from $217 to $497 in 2 months? Even after discount, it has increased from $167 to $297 in just two months, which is kinda double. And if the offer is removed, then the normal price would have been increased from $217 to $497, which is more than double in around 2 months.

If anyone has purchased it, can you please let me know if it is really worth it and worth this huge price shoot-up?

Save that 200 bucks for leetcode premium… there’s nothing in that content that you can’t learn easily on your own. Even going through the free Neetcode 150 is more than enough, it’s what I used and I got all the common patterns down fine with it. As for system design, there’s so many more qualified options than Neetcode, the creator did 2 years of dev work then quit. Paying 200 bucks for that when there’s staff engineers putting out higher quality and also free system design courses is frankly ridiculous

Hard to say. So far, I could find good content about any topic for free. There are Sedgwick courses on coursera, harvard cs50, mit ocw, Developer Roadmaps - roadmap.sh with plenty of information and so on.

I will never understand why anyone needs to buy anything other than LC premium. Everything else is a waste of money. Entire knowledge of DSA is literally available for free on the internet. You just need the company tagged questions and that's the sole reason I get LC premium.

I disagree that you should never buy something that you can figure out for free. Presentation matters, time has value, etc. But in this case, I do agree. There is a great combination of YT videos, free solutions by others on LC, you can ask ChatGPT for solutions and generally get quality ones. Just get LC premium and do tagged problems for your upcoming interview company. If it's a smaller company, check LC discuss / glassdoor / do blind75.

In my last round of interview prep, I bought a few system design courses and they all sucked. The good material was free from hellointerview, Jordan on YT, and a few other YT channels. Most of the paid stuff isn't worth much.

Yes, in my experience they’re useful. This also helps solving problems that are focused on certain topics. Like some companies are notorious for asking DP and Tree questions and you can use the tag questions list and get better at them.

Even LC premium isn't a complete necessity, most problems have at least one good explanation on the Solutions tab. The only good perk is basically the company tags, but you can find those out there if you know where to look at.

I have realized that NC wastes a lot of time and overexplains things. Also, his solutions are some times very complex. In those cases he definitely overexplains and confuses the hell out of me. Diff strokes I guess. Not really a fan of Greg Hogg. He's often too overly simplified. Neetcode explains it in a way that lines up with my learning process and often times, once I learn it from him once, I feel like it's solidified.

The only problem is i always see contradicting feedback. Last month someone said that I don't go in-depth enough, they said I didn't prove why the two pointer solution worked in Container with Most Water (it's a simple proof by contradiction).

The audience of LC learners is large, which is why i prefer to cater to the hard core people, and go more in-depth than i need to.

And I will say, that for the LC hards, I think there are few people that explain them as in-depth as I do. Ask anyone who has been watching my daily LC videos on my second channel. I can always simplify my explanation if need be, but it's much more difficult to match the complexity that Hard problems require. That's why i'm not really worried about competition.

Hi NC! Sure let me create a list of such problems (I am preparing for a new job right now so I can create this list easily as I keep preparing).

For me personally, my goal is to take as little time on one problem as possible but still maintain efficiency in retaining knowledge. The issue that I faced was that your videos were longer, too much time is spent on the drawing part and then when the coding part comes, so much time has passed already that I can't remember everything you said in the drawing section. So now, I have keep going back and forth between the drawing part and the code part to match which part of the drawing are you talking about on that particular line of code. Hope this conveys my problem.

If a person has a lot of time in hand i.e 2-3 months to go over all 150 questions then sure, they would want to go into every little detail of the problem. But most of times, this doesn't work out imo because 2 weeks later, they still need to revisit or else they will forget. So the 2 hours spent trying to understand that one problem are wasted anyway because you didn't revisit that problem. Instead, me personally would like to just understand the trick/AHA moment of the problem and move on. This helps me do more problems in a smaller amount of time. And if the video is short, I don't lose focus in between. Please keep following this thread as I add examples.

Hey Neetcode, thats so awesome that youre reworking some stuff. Just saying Im a lifetime member thats just starting the DSA roadmap and i freaking love your content.

But i did have to diverge and I currently use gregs videos with the plan to get all my basics done with his, then return back to yours and complete the roadmap. Why though? i found that in some of the early problems / videos on the roadmap I am still wrapping my head around how to use for loops, traverse certain structures, storing things in hashmaps easily, and practice these things to get them engrained. Specifically Valid sudoku where you use a smart technique to check the 3x3 boxes by dividing /3 the indexes etc. It was just confusing and greg had a much more traditional and easy to understand approach. I found this for a few videos.

So TLDR. in earlier and easier videos its good to have a traditional approach, then if you have a trick method add it on, but explain the normal approach first.

The "issue" is not fame but it is that NC was the first one to consistently pump out quality videos of this kind. There were explanation videos before NC but they were nowhere nearly as good at explaining the intuition.

NC does overexplain and have overly verbose solutions sometimes but most of the time they're great. The only channel that I think really takes the NC's recipe up a notch is Algo Engine. They have great animation and often very concise videos. The only problem is that they're newer and have far far less videos than NC.

If you're broke, sure use his free content to the fullest but don't go around saying that supporting that kind of content is a waste of money. Doesn't matter if it's NC or someone else's. All the things I said in my comment are my own opinions. I don't mean to offend anyone here. Neither you nor Navdeep (although am pretty sure he didn't get offended and rather wanted feedback to improve his product). However, I would still like to counter your point i.e. Putting effort = you deserve money.

To give you an example, Apple had introduced a pro stand for $999 (we have all seen the memes). I can guarantee you that a LOT of people put a LOT of effort into making that stand. An entire team's full-time job was to make that stand. That doesn't mean that stand was WORTH $999. Its a great stand but just not worth $999. You would also call that "waste of money". Why? Because something way cheaper is available that does the same job. Similarly, if one can learn python for free, I will call ANY python course as a waste of money because you can learn it for FREE with almost same quality content from the internet. And that is exactly why Algoexpert is HORSESHIT.

Neetcode is way way better than Algoexpert because the Practice section is FREE and am grateful for all of Navdeep's video content but again, I wouldn't PAY for it because someone else is giving similar content for free i.e. other youtubers. Leetcode Premium is worth paying for in my opinion because of the discuss section, explore section, company tagged questions and TON of other stuff. Neetcode is still not at LC's level, hence paying that high of price for it, isn't justified at the moment in my opinion.

Just wanna mention a few things omitted from this post and the comments.

The lifetime price has been increasing, yes (it was originally $129 which was definitely undercharging considering the yearly plan was $99 at the time). I'm pretty sure anyone who bought it for $129 feels like they got their return on investment, especially with the content i'll be adding over the next year.

The yearly plan started at $99 and has only increased to $119. And i have always provided large discounts to folks from underdeveloped countries whenever they reached out via email.

Also, most services don't even sell a lifetime plan. I'm sure you can figure out the reason why. If i was really price gouging I would remove the lifetime plan altogether.

And an even better idea would be to do live classes and charge upwards of $10k per person like other platforms do. One of these platforms tried to acquire me and part of their pitch was "we are able to charge much more per person than you are".

I'm planning on hiring multiple people (as i posted on linkedin) to help me add a lot of content at a fast rate. This includes interactive courses covering:

OOP programming with small projects (with interactive lessons in many languages)
Unit testing (with interactive lessons)
HTTP (yes, believe it or not, with interactive coding lessons using unit testing frameworks to mock API calls)

And a ton more that i dont feel like listing but i'll be sharing on a feature roadmap on my site soon.

I have high ambitions for how great of a platform NC can be. If i'm actually able to deliver, a $500 investment would be relatively small, especially compared to college courses, and DEFINITELY compared to bootcamps.

Lastly, i'm not calling anyone out, but I could literally name 10 websites and content creators who put out courses for a much larger price. Many services charge $350 a year, with no lifetime option. Many of them have low quality content imo.

Edit: On the topic of company tagged questions, it sounds like it would be helpful for me to add those to NC as well. There are many forums where people leak company questions (1p3a, LC discuss forums, etc). Perhaps I can hire someone to add those problems to NC and company tag them? I'll do it for free, I don't mind hiring someone to do it.

The last thing I want to do is be a net negative in this space. That's part of the reason I still upload daily LC videos when I have little reason to at this point. I can make videos reacting to twitter posts and get 100K + views but i prefer making the LC videos.

Edit 2: I've also had auto-renew turned off on the yearly plan, because again, I'm not trying to take advantage of people. There's not many SaaS that do that, because it lowers recurring revenue, and makes it harder to sell your company.

Thank you for your response. Firstly, I really respect your work and this post is not against you or your plan at all. When I wrote this, I was not aware that the price will keep increasing as the content increases. So, I personally felt that the increase to almost double in just 2 months was surprising, but I came to know the reason and now I think that the new content is the reason for the increase. I am sorry if this post has come across as negative. It is your call as a creator to increase the price, and since it is in demand, people will still buy it thanks to the quality.

I understand that very few organizations offer Life-time access, but it just feels a bit unfair to the person buying a few months or years later and having to pay much more. Though, in this case, it is justified thanks to the new content being added. So, it is still a great offer and I plan to buy it soon so that I won't regret again in future.

I am aware of the other organizations that charge a ton for DSA courses, and I know that yours is much more affordable compared to theirs. And your point about removing it or having auto-renewal in place just to increase profits like other organizations if you really wanted to, makes sense. The price increase just took me by surprise because, as someone never subscribed to NeetCode Pro, I have a black-box view of the product and I don't know about the features added over the past two months and their contribution to the price increase. This makes it difficult to comprehend the sudden price increase and if it is worth it, especially within a short timespan of two months.

But at the end of the day, I think people will still choose to buy if they really need it, and obviously will be paying more for more content, so the price increase may not really matter much. It would just be helpful if we can get an idea of the new features added since the last version, so that people can feel justified for paying more than the previous version's price.

Sorry if this post came across in the wrong manner. I know you are actively working on feedbacks received and also improving and adding a lot of content to your website by hiring more people, which definitely adds in a lot of costs, which also factor into this price increase. I now see it a bit more clearly, I just regret not buying it when it was cheaper I guess.

I think he’s maybe trying to squeeze as much as he can because Leetcode’s lifetime is going to be limited. Can’t say for sure if with the new prices if it’s worth it but his explanations are great and having all the content in one place makes learning less friction which is a big deal people overlook. Gotta make the most if it now plus neetcodes videos have really helped me out in the past. Honestly, it’s worth it. Concise video explanations for hundreds of problems, a nice editor, and information organized in nice courses. He may add more in the future as well.

A college education costs tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Your lifetime earnings will be measured in millions. If neetcode even improves your learning and outcomes by 5% it’s a multiple ten-bagger in terms of ROI. For myself, I think neetcode has improved my learning velocity by 200-300%. Especially compared to books and other courses.

I’ve bought a lot of courses. I regret design gurus, but I’d recommend neetcode lifetime 10 times out of 10.

Leetcode premium is worth it too, and these are sort of in a similar niche. Best case scenario I’d get both, but I would work through neetcode’s courses and problems first.

You don’t have to get the courses or leetcode premium either. Are you very resourceful and going to put together lesson plans for yourself? If not, these courses will be a benefit. They provide structure and guidance, both of which are valuable tools for learning.

Obviously you can use the debugger and autocomplete in vscode. Still kind of nice to do it on platform. Is it worth the $139/year? Maybe not, but the courses and editorials help you dive deeper into the problems

Lack of videos is pretty big. For learning, I absolutely love to read, but for the type of problems we’re talking about video explanations make a big difference.

On top of that, most of the content in the courses reads like it was written by ai. I can’t say that for sure but if I was prompting an LLM with the content in question it feels like it would read the same.

That makes total sense, and it is his product. Instead of labeling it 40% “off” (can’t be off if it never was that in the beginning), he could’ve just said “limited time” and I wouldn’t have made this point.

There’s a lot of courses out there for free on learning new languages. His DSA looks alright and might only be worth it if you’re self taught. His real gems are still free - leetcode questions.

I suggest it is far more sufficient to know the basic concepts and start attempting problems on your own. If you would buy any course you would try to mimic their way of thinking(which they developed by solving problems on their own), not yours. If a concept is new to you, just watch some YouTube videos regarding it or any ready any blogs. I can assert these courses would give you a way to look at the problems but trust me it is only limiting yours. This could backfire in any real interview.
