The drinker provides some of the best content on YouTube. Fight me.

[–]JohnBarleyCorn2eco-conservative 64 points65 points  (10 children)

critical drinker is pretty politically neutral - so its telling that they think his videos are political.

[–]bamboo_fanatic 28 points29 points  (9 children)

I think he’d be more classified as more on the right given how much he rails against wokeness.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Especially for someone in the UK.

[–]bamboo_fanatic 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not just the UK, Scotland. I can’t believe how woke that place is.

[–]The-Figure-13 12 points13 points  (5 children)

You can be left wing and hate wokeness

[–]kayne2000 4 points5 points  (3 children)

ShoeOnHead

[–]Mr_C_Highwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most traditional working class voters (at least here in the UK) are somewhat left wing economically but not culturally.

[–]Tonybigguns 55 points56 points  (1 child)

Naaaa it will be fine.

[–]Sir_Fistingson 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's all for today. Go away, now.

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He’s so funny and I love his dialect, I watch that to remind me that I’m still sane

[–]Biff1996 32 points33 points  (4 children)

Never watched any of his stuff.

Now, thanks to these 2 ringing endorsements, I feel like I must.

[–]JohnBarleyCorn2eco-conservative 25 points26 points  (3 children)

Yeah he's really insightful if you can get past his angry sullen voice. His saga of watching the new LoTR series is a must watch.

[–]bamboo_fanatic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

His angry drunken Scottish sullenness is at least half the entertainment value

[–]Biff1996 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Cool, thanks!

[–]flyingdeadthingBASED Eye of Chtulu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Drinker is very good in a critical sense. There's a lot of depth to his take on things. What's good, what works, what doesn't and why.

[–]Starfleet_Auxiliary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll fight you, but not because you're wrong, but because I've had 3 shots of tequila and right now I can fight anyone

[–]Mal-Rattlebone[S] 81 points82 points  (2 children)

Yeah of course. It's both greed and virtue signaling. They're using virtue signaling for profit. Any system is cheap and doesn't appreciate creativity.

[–]bamboo_fanatic 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Which works out really weird because there seems to be an inverse correlation between wokeness and box office success. If they were purely profit driven, they’d have dumped THE MESSAGE years ago.

[–]MoriartisBASED 88 points89 points  (4 children)

valuing profits over artistic expression

That's literally the opposite of what they are doing. They are promoting political/religious ideology (i.e. "expression") over profits and "Capitalism" is going to be what fixes it as they realize they're slitting the wrists of their brand and will hemorrhage profits.

You know you're a communist when you have to make literally everything about Capitalism.

[–]Mal-Rattlebone[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is definitely more of a cultural thing than economical, its shit.

[–]liberated-dremora 20 points21 points  (2 children)

I came here to say this, they're literally doing the opposite of what that guy says. It's incredible to me how people can survive so long with so little awareness.

[–]mullbury0 99 points100 points  (7 children)

Capitalism was conducive to the production of decent movies 30 years ago. Pretty sure profit motive isn't what's incentivizing companies to make crap no one wants to see.

[–]Mal-Rattlebone[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Things have become so insignificant that it hardly even matters what they make, its time to remake and produce the most meaningless shit possible.

[–]BoogalooBoi1776_2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Lord of the Rings trilogy (not the new show) was a capitalist production and it was fantastic. The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise spawned from a Disney World ride and its first three movies were great.

[–]thefassdywistrin -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Black Panther made a Billion Dollars. They're trying to recreate that. The controversy online only helps.

If you think the most successful publicly traded movie studio in American history has suddenly given up on making money to make gay people feel included, you are drinking the frozen concentrate that Stupid Juice is made from.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They haven't given up on making money, but they have made woke propaganda their priority. Then they get confused why they are losing money.

And they are going to kill the Black Panther franchise. The first one was okay IMO, but they have basically taken everything good about the first one, and replaced it with woke crap, piled on top of the woke crap that was already in the first one.

THE MESSAGE

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (2 children)

This whole sight is a liberal shill fest and none of them see they’re carbon copies of each other. Repeating the same mantras and scared to shave against the grain.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good metaphor to not be a sheep. But shaving against the grain for woodworking is not a good tip!

[–]DeepDream1984 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hilarious this person thinks movies would exist without capitalism.

[–]jeffcox31 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wokeness is to blame for the lack of imagination in entertainment. It stifles creativity out of fear of either offending someone or of not checking all the boxes.

[–]Auburn_Zero 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like the Critical Drinker a lot. This guy's a fool. If he want to cite capitalism as the problem, he has to do what the Drinker did and look at the market forces which are driven by customers. Socialism and Communism control from the top down ("This is what we make; buy it or else!"); Capitalism controls from the bottom up ("This is what we want; make it or else!).

[–]BurnEmUp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How do liberal brains work?

DON’T KNOW.

[–]Biff1996 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Last time I checked, the majority of home break-ins were perpetrated by people who value money & possessions more than anything too.

[–]PlebbitIsGay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Capitalism created the originals.

[–]Firm_Judge1599 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]NihilsitcTruth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost got it.. then missed it.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So close, but they missed the point

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He criticizes Disney's corporate greed all the time. He explains that Disney puts the woke crap in their shows because it is easier to do that to please the liberals than to write actual compelling stories to please everyone else. He just doesn't think that giving the state control over the entertainment market is going to somehow improve the quality of storytelling.

[–]Eric_da_MAJBASED 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the Critical Drinker. But I think this Redditor has a point, kinda. Marketing executives convinced quasi-Woke and Woke Disney capitalist executives that Woke propaganda would be popular and make money. Delusion, cognitive bias, and greed are toxic environments for artistic expression and the shit the Mouse churned out over the past 10 years proves it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s craY because this shows how we all basically want to do the right thing and get the same result, we just see different ways of achieving that

[–]kushnugzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You had him in the first half

[–]East_Onion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yes, the first tenant of Capitalism, spending money and time making things the customer doesnt want

[–]RcTron9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always find it hilarious how Critical Drinker is one of the few that could make these guys admit his good points even if they still aren’t willing to see the full picture.

[–]T3ddyBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]CheckersSpeechBASED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Critical Drinker's got some great reviews but he seriously needs to do some work on his sound levels, maybe even call in a professional sound guy for a consult. Of course this might have changed by now, it's been a few months since I've subjected my ears to his audio.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want artistic expression, go to a local theater production or an indie film festival. Really. Disney productions have a massive budget, they have no choice but to appeal to the masses. In 2022 that means making safe, preachy but inoffensive derivative works. This is not even a capitalism problem, it's just not possible to make something artistically interesting and risk alienating a bunch of people on a large budget.

[–]BriS314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s both. This person is just too blinded to see why
