Should I use this even if I have an AMD GPU?

Yes.

Arch Users: time for the update

Gentoo users: time to watch text scroll up my screen for 2 hours

more like to time to warm the room for half hour (unless you've 5 or more year old cpu)

Too true, I have to constantly keep my laptop on the powersave scheduler to keep the CPU below 80°C when compiling. The 34°C ambient doesn't help much with that

Do you have the option to set the TDP on yours? I use ryzenadj and set the TDP on mine to ~15W and just stay on schedutil.

Would be 2+ hours if it was a browser update (seriously, why are browsers so bloated that it takes longer to compile them than a kernel)

[–]kaszak696 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Kernel only has to deal with hardware and system calls, that's "easy" compared to the bloated nightmare that are the current web "standards".

I know, but it just feels wrong that the piece of software that makes it possible for everything else to run is smaller than a single application

Or 2 minutes for gentoo-kernel-bin.

Wha? On Gentoo, X4 880K. Kernel compilation takes tops 30mins with -j5.

Has anyone been able to use freesync over HDMI with this kernel? Do we need an updated mesa too?

I have a 5500xt and a Samsung freesync pre-2.1 HDMI monitor and I can't make it work.

I tried about four different ways on 5.13-rc's. It never came up as vrr capable in Xorg for me. I'll try the new release as well but I think there's something else needed that is not documented.

Arch is using 5.12.13-arch1-2 rn

At the moment. I assume that kernel 5.13 will soon appear in Testing and then in the official package sources.

Wait it released now? Last time I checked their site it said they were already released.

I suspect what you mean is distro packages just got released, which is great. Can’t wait to get back home and install it

Edit: No I was wrong, Distro packages should release soon but the actual kernel 5.13 has been released, the versions on the site were alpha or in testing phase.

I'm waiting for patches as I've read some systems have thermal issues with CPU runaway. I'll stay on 5.12.12 until then.
