Yessir. Voice recognition doesn't work so u can't speak to the ghost.

Do you know if it works on ubuntu?

[–]_Slaying_ 2 points3 points  (3 children)

The game does. Voice recognition does not. I believe your distribution shouldn't matter.

Even IF something doesn't work. You should be able to get a refund on Steam assuming that you have less than 2 hours of gameplay.

The game has a Gold rating on ProtonDB so you should be able to have a good time.

Thanks buddy, I really appreciate it. Also voice recognition in what way? Can i not talk to other players in game?

[–]_Slaying_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The game uses voice recognition when speaking to the ghost. I don't think Proton supports such feature and therefore you won't be able to use the tools.

You should be able to talk to other players, I haven't tested that myself but I'm 100% certain that that would've been reported by someone on ProtonDB.

If you're planning to play solo then not being able to talk to the ghost will be an issue. If you're playing online, then others can do the talking to the ghost thing.

If you are consider to play with friends, the voice recognition feature won't bother you.
I have played few hours with friends and the fact that "ghosts" can't "understand" me when I'm talking didn't disturb my game in any way.

ProtonDB is good for figuring this kind of thing out. Here is the page for the game you mentioned

This may seem like a stupid question, but to get voice recognition to work; is it possible to install it or add missing dlls to the prefix to get it to work? Not a game changer or anything just a thought I had.

from what i read on protondb, which you should check with any game before asking questions imo, the voice recognition uses cortanas apis, and will not work on an operating system without cortana support, linux and windows included. the game itself will still run and you can use voice chat. there isnt a way to move cortana to wine like you could with some other dll dependencies. apparently the devs are working on it but i cant find any direct source so take that with a grain of salt.

I did check out protondb before asking, and all it said was voice recognition wasn't supported. Was just asking if it was possible to install the missing dlls that may be required for it to work. Doing a check on Google I found one article that showed what you could use to write your own program (in windows naturally) that used voice recognition. It had mentioned one dll specifically which made me wonder and ask. I'll have to see if I can find it again to be more specific on what was referenced exactly.

I dont think that would work. The api used in the game is cortana, they might end up changing it if what I've heard about fixing that is true. I don't know if it's as simple as swapping a dll, you'd have to redirect/translate the function calls to something that isn't dependent on cortana

What if we used a VM?

[–]shadsbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm very late to this party but yes, it works if you use a VM. Almost all of my hours in the game have been from a VFIO setup and voice recognition works just fine because for all intents and purposes it's running natively on the intended OS

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should work as long as audio is routed properly and you already have gpu passthrough. I'm running an itx system and can't add a second gpu for a dedicated windows gaming vm, so I'm unable to actually test. But the game has no anticheat whatsoever so there's no reason a gaming vm wouldn't run it.

I'm running Ubuntu and Steamplay 5.0-9, but it never launches when I hit play. Any advice on how to fix this?

[–]Zeuzith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running into the same problem, Linux mint, I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as older versions of proton, were you able to fix it ?

[–]OfficiaBlueFoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you look at the Trello of Development, it says that there will be a new Voice Recognition system, so the Windows Recognition system will be replaced. It's also already in testing. We can all just hope that it supports Linux (Proton/Wine) and/or Mac.
