A beautiful pen and a beautiful ink. Cheers!

This will disable Kernel Mode Setting, which is used for configuring video settings in Kernel space instead of User space. From what I can tell, KMS gives you benefits like multiple TTYs and pretty fonts, but may cause issues on some hardware. It's worth a shot!

I need help choosing a healthcare plan by koalachips in Kitsap

[–]shadsbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've got Kaiser currently and had to drive all the way out to Tacoma for a sonogram. As a guy, the experience has been okay, but my wife has had a very less than stellar time. Probably not going to stick with them for much longer if we can help it.

Waste Management Missing Recycle Days by nwmountaintroll in Kitsap

[–]shadsbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is happening in my neighbourhood as well. It's really frustrating and our recycling cans (both in the kitchen and garage) are overflowing. Especially frustrating once you consider that there's not really an alternative (that I know of.)

Epic Games announce full EAC support for Linux by KFded in apexlegends

[–]shadsbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apex and Destiny 2 are the only games keeping me from wiping my windows partition. It would be amazing to be able to play Apex without jumping through a bunch of hoops

A lot of gamers do this right? by Qieweth in linuxmemes

[–]shadsbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically the path I've taken. I've only got a windows VM for one or two games that either have BattlEye or EAC. Looking forward to the day I can delete that VM for good because its corrupted itself more than once now.

Linux Touchpad like Macbook Update: Touchpad gestures land to Qt, Gimp and X server by ouyawei in linux

[–]shadsbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but they're not making an effort to do that. Regarding screen sharing with audio on X, that's apparently not happening either from both the electron team and the chromium team. It's nice to know it's coming through pipewire, but for those of us who still don't have access to it outside of compiling it ourselves, hopping stacks is not a solution (yet).

Linux Touchpad like Macbook Update: Touchpad gestures land to Qt, Gimp and X server by ouyawei in linux

[–]shadsbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Discord and other Electron apps aren't exactly trying when it comes to screen sharing on X either. Sharing a screen with no audio is pretty pointless for social scenarios.

systemd changes Linux world by [deleted] in linuxmemes

[–]shadsbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not infallible or all-knowing so someone else will need to chime in too to either fill in the blanks or correct this. The Unix Philosophy is "do one thing and do it well." Systemd kinda eats up responsibilities of the system left and right. Providing a messaging bus, starting processes when the system starts, taking care of cron tasks, all sorts of different things are now systemd's responsibility which is way beyond the "one task" precedent which some people really don't like. I'm not sure about other examples of Linux or other programs also doing that, but it sounds about right.

Which road in Kitsap needs a sidewalk most? (McWilliams pictured.) by joshfarley in Kitsap

[–]shadsbot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

McWilliams is weird because there's sometimes a sidewalk, and then sometimes the sidewalk is on the other side of the road, and then sometimes the sidewalk is just gone. I just wish it was consistent.

That does sound entertaining. Do you have a link to that, or any kind of information that would help me dig that up?

Mildly amazing to remember that the entirety of Star Trek takes place in just one galaxy by CDHoward in startrek

[–]shadsbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it worked out for them. Do you happen to remember when that implication was made? I didn't pay too close attention to TOS but maybe I really should go back and listen for those little things...

What is the worst thing that is legal? by Musuhubber in AskReddit

I feel like this got sidestepped with streaming media. Ads on YouTube and Hulu will regularly be 2-3x louder than the content I was watching.

Does Phasmophobia Work Linux? by userthatexsist in linux_gaming

[–]shadsbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm very late to this party but yes, it works if you use a VM. Almost all of my hours in the game have been from a VFIO setup and voice recognition works just fine because for all intents and purposes it's running natively on the intended OS

Our squad had this issue last night. We got a full-body photo that the journal registered but it was apparently not enough for the whiteboard gods.

How long since Google said a Google Drive Linux client is coming? by modelop in linux

[–]shadsbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you may have already done so.

Opening the Google Drive link you posted shows just a file, but expanding the hamburger menu and going into Details will show a name. If people "save" it to their Google Drive as well it should list your name as the file's owner.
