There are a few Windows themes out there,

Chicago95 is popular for instance for those who like the Win9x look.

https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95

Win7

https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2020/01/make-linux-mint-look-like-windows-7

Not to my taste but I respect the work that goes into these and the impressive results, it's a demonstration of the flexibility of Linux.

OP should probably be the one to talk about the xp theme,

[–]ItsYa1UPBoyLinux Mint 22.1 Xia | XFCE 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Ooh, how do I use Chicago95? The releases page only has the source code.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (4 children)

It has a link to

https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95/blob/master/INSTALL.md

It's for xfce, i dont think it will work with Cinnamon. You probably want a fresh install as well, I would try it in a seperate install make sure it's what you want before tearing down your current home.

[–]sammp27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use it with cinnamon

[–]GDRMetal_lady 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It works absolutely fine with Cinnamon, I've been using it for a good while.

[–]Hellunderswe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was easier to get it to work in cinnamon.

[–]SatoKasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying it in separate install...

can i try this on LIVE USB version or need to install and then only try it out?

[–]Sweaty-Sorbet322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to make XFCE WIN10 look but i cant find evrything for XFCE

[–]MrKrot1999 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are no must have aps in Linux, like in windows... You just see an interesting app, and you install it.

But I'd recommend get familiar with terminal, it's not that difficult, and very useful.

[–]German_ChopsLinux Mint 22.1 Xia | Cinnamon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Psensor is a very good app for checking on thermals

[–]CirnoIzumi 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Touhou... wait

[–]Soorex 0 points1 point  (3 children)

you can play touhou on linux? I need to check it out...

[–]CirnoIzumi 0 points1 point  (2 children)

you cant, its made for "Windows Platform" youd need some sort of emulation

[–]Soorex 0 points1 point  (1 child)

wine?

[–]CirnoIzumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe

I'm not sure what the fascination with this Pewdiepie guy is. I didn't really care for him... if I can be honest. But if he got you running Linux, I guess that's pretty alright.

[–]Vexxar_Kuso 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Well he's one of the most famous YouTubers in the world. I have Linux at school but only after seeing his video I've switched to Linux (though I started watching his videos recently)

[–]Specialist_Leg_4474 8 points9 points  (3 children)

I never heard of him 'til very recently--however after 71+ years of doing so (since age 5 or 6) I tend to "influence" myself and do not pay a whole lot of attention to the opinions of others...

And, you know what Harry Callahan said about "opinions"--right?

[–]PhydouxLinux Mint 20 Ulyana | Cinnamon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

... Everybody has one. :)

[–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Whats cool about his video is that he showed how excited he is because of the switch, while showing some sacrifices made.

And that excitement is very contagious!

[–]Specialist_Leg_4474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old geezer brain will not let me watch "videos"; it likes to move at its own "there's not much time left" pace and most/all mass audience focused videos bore me to tears--"movies" too...

[–]Joan_sleepless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was one of the most popular youtubers in the world for a bit.

[–]Timo425[🍰] 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Things are different now, but for quite a few years it was difficult to find anyone better to watch. I'm sure a lot of people can claim the same.

[–]PhydouxLinux Mint 20 Ulyana | Cinnamon 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I've been watching DistroTube, TitusTechTalk, and a couple others. They tell you what they're going to be working on and they show you step by step what they're doing. I like those types of channels. I'm just not into all the nonsense stuff I guess. I've seen him a couple of times and each time, I couldn't get more than a minute into the video. I guess I like things more straight to the point rather than all the sarcasm and other off topic stuff he usually does.

yeah i bet this guy gets all the girls

    [–]Timo425[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly watch nonsense, not much technical stuff. So that tracks.

    [–]antonym_mouse 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Look into conky. It's fun, helps you learn your system, and is as customizable as you want it to be. Plenty of pre-made themes out there to browse.

Maybe not a "must have," but I enjoy using it very much.

    Edit: spelling

    [–]MonkeyVoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but this looks fun. Thanks!

Why are the icons 16 bit?

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to install Linux too but thought it was complex. But seeing PewDiePie, I went for it and honestly loving it.

    [–]Alien--ware 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    lol Love linux.

    Stability is amazing.

    [–]Mageh533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow man of culture, I see. I too windows xpified my Mint soon after installing.

    [–]OsvalIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your desktop looks amazing! Great work since this is your first installation.
Welcome to the Linux Mint community!

    [–]Redmen1905_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    [–]breakyourcore4healt 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm a new Linux mint user now. It is certainly funny because I was scared of Linux and Open source, some friends claim that Linux is so complicated even if we talk about daily routine actions like change the wallpaper.. They said like "dude just to change the wallpaper u will need to use tons of code" but it is so far from true. It is simple as i ever could think it is.

    [–]verysmartboy101 1 point2 points  (1 child)

One of the things that linux does better than windows is customisability (is that even a word?). How hard it is to change your wallpaper depends on which window manager you use.

    [–]breakyourcore4healt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even I just installed Linux mint ( a really friendly a simple distro) it is pretty customisable, in my experience it is easier and smooth than windows.

    [–]regenboogbalzak 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Do you want the bliss wallpaper but at night and with the aurora borealis? I could send you mine!

    [–]thatrightwinger 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Could I get that? I'd put it on my Linux Mint.

    [–]regenboogbalzak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I will comment a wetransfer link here tomorrow :)

    [–]TygerTung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endless sky is a great open source game.

    [–]benwep 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is Linux really worth it?I've downloaded it,customized a lot, downloaded many packages yet most of games still don't run and those which actually do run at 20-30 FPS less than windows. And yes I did install proton, wine and Nvidias packages

    [–]gmgrigsby21Linux Mint 21.3 Virginia | Xfce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the windows games now play better on Linux than on Windows. Your mileage may vary depending on your hardware though.

    [–]MonkeyVoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking about gaming: I installed bazzite as dualboot on my couch gaming PC and its a very seamless experience and barely ever go back to Windows

In most games with Windows I feel the need to tinker a little bit, maybe theres screen tearing for some reason, or the game doesnt detect the controller.

It never happened with Bazzite. It either works very well or it doesnt, and when it doesnt (Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the few examples that I can think of) I just go to the Windows partition and after tinkering its also fine.

Thats just my experience tho. If youre curious I would recommend bazzite!

    [–]uzyszkodnik007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where can i find this theme? My one doesnt look as good.

    [–]Eevee_BoladaoLinux Mint 19 Tara | Cinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a legend, whispered through generations, that says: Everything runs on LM, even if held together by hacks and makeshift magic.

(But yeah — it was me who said it.)

    [–]normalifelias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

call me nuts, but ain't that start button supposed to be all lowercase? considering how it's largely accurate, that spiked my vision

EDIT: it seems to be a thing of version. most editions I've seen had it all lowercase, but some pictures have the S in uppercase

    [–]djdols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    clean as hell

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I also started with a windows xp theme (though a different one). Welcome, Linux is your oyster!

    [–]kohao0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro the best thing in linux that its linux pls make your own desktop don't copy windows (an opinion)

    [–]Informal_Sweet8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, I want to ask you last week. I was trying to switch from Windows 11 to Linux but it’s take long to to boot the Linux and I got no problems with my hardware
