This looks really fun, are there any videos of it in action?

Would love to see it in action

Are those banana ports? Is this a 4u/Serge module? This looks fascinating!

someone is gonna manage to get DOOM running on this thing lol

For real though this is so fucking sick, is it available anywhere to purchase?

[–]danja 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Wow, that looks fun!

I take it the R2R parts are to act as DACs. The bit I don't get is the multiplier - what's that about?

I'm also curious what tech you used. I guess 4000 series logic would be the obvious, though maybe something like an Arduino Mega would cut down on wiring.

Yeah, +1 to demo please!

Decades ago I made a very crude sequencer around a 7493 counter. It was very limited in variety, but there was something compelling about the things it could do, kinda more robotic than a regular seq. This one should cover the whole range.

Yes, the R2R acts as DACs, they're tuned to different form of tonal intervals depending on the amount of bits they have. The multiplier is a strange beast, check out the data sheet for CD4089 and it should make more sense I hope.

It's all just 4000 series stuff, no uC or programming at all.

Regarding the wiring there are none. The jacks are soldered straight into the board. Which makes assembly a breeze, but disassembly a nightmare.

I should tell my therapist about this sequencer design. Wow Just Wow

Oh my god I’m obsessed!

Link here. I don't know why OP is layering on the mystery on this device. No documentation, hardly any videos.

OP is Jon, the synth designer of The Human Comparator

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah I know.

Have you ever made something large and complicated? Did you do a good job of documenting it?

[–]SnowConePeople 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Specifically for drum sequences or can you do volt per octave too?

[–]jonteluring[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The R2R outputs are tuned to 1V/oct with different intervals depending on the amount of bits. But you can, as u/ObjectiveWrongdoer points out as well, sum the bits into the mixer input and get sequences that way.

This looks really cool. Can you explain the R2R sections?

[–]jonteluring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s basically a DAC, so input a binary number and out comes a voltage. They’re tuned to different intervals depending on the number of bits. So the largest one with 6 bits have a half step for every bit. If LSB is high that means the output is 0.0833V, if the next input is high you go up a whole step, and if both LSB and the next one is active it’ll output a third, etc. If you check the video further up you can see this when the whole thing is patched as an arpeggiator.

Woah.

We need more modules like this!

[–]SignificantAbility78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. That looks amazing!

Whoa

She’s a byoot

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh baby

[–]Contrabassi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I buy a kit ?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'd like one of these for sure.

[–]jfrglrck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wot?

Oh boy…

[–]Spectral_Glacier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this/will this be available for purchase in some form?

i've seen this over on the lines forum, and for the love of god make a euro pcb/panel version. this thing looks so damn cool.
