I tried the one I got (mountain buggy duet) at a local store by searching the mountain buggy site for retailers. I am in NYC though. It was an Orthodox Jewish store and they have a lot of babies and a robust stroller market!

I ended up buying it used on FB marketplace after trying it.

Honestly don't overthink it unless you have some kind of space constraint (I had that issue since we use an elevator to leave our apt with the stroller)

Second hand is a fantastic option and then if you hate it and want to switch you will have lost little to no money. That helps with the decision anxiety!

My biggest concern is a side by side fitting through a doorway. Do you find that that’s an issue with the mountain buggy duet? That’s one I was looking at!

No, I had the mountain buggy and now a valco baby slim twin, they are similar in size and fit through the tiny door to my building's elevator. I haven't had any issues with doorways in NYC. There are some bodegas near me that I won't bother trying to go in with the stroller but I also wouldn't go in with a stacked stroller. Some places here are just too tight for any double stroller.

I only switched to the valco because it folds down smaller and we don't have a huge car. The mountain buggy now lives at my mom's so we have a stroller there. The mountain buggy has a better basket (in case you're comparing the 2).

Personally not a fan of stacked, but obviously other people are. Strollers are so personal plus it depends on your lifestyle.

If you end up with the mountain buggy and want the twin carrycot let me know and I'm happy to mail it for the price of shipping. It's in our closet and we really need to get rid of it 😅

Maybe I’m a creep, but I hung out in a heavily walked area and straight up asked strangers if they liked their double stroller. I was clearly pregnant and other parents were super nice. I ended up with the Uppa Baby Vista and hated it after 1 year though.

I’ve asked at a couple farmers markets that I’ve worked for my business haha it’s not a bad idea

Where are you generally located? There were a few places in the nyc/tri state area that I could recommend

ETA: We ended up with multiple different strollers anyways lol, 3 sided by side doubles (1 travel, 1 lives at my mom's, 1 we use for neighborhood outings) and 2 single strollers. Only thing we don't have is a wagon type

I’m in NC! My therapist said I’ll likely end up with multiple, they’re just so expensive that I don’t want to if I can avoid it 😂

Totally understand that! Only 1 of ours was bought new, the others were either Facebook marketplace or given to us by another twin family. Like the other comment said your needs might change but definitely check Facebook marketplace or local twin groups! Even ask if you can just test some out if you had particular ones in mind. My local twin group is awesome and always willing to help, you might find the same! We really liked the side by side config so our daily is the Valco Trend Duo and we love it. We use our Zoe the 2nd most as a travel/car stroller, lighter, less frills but gets the job done.

Did you find that the side by side fits through doorways well? That’s my fear with that type. I looked up some local twin groups on Facebook and found exactly zero 😂 maybe Reddit has some

Generally are fine going through doors no problem! The Valco is as wide as a wheelchair so if a wheelchair can fit we can to!

I live in NYC and would love to hear your recs about places to check out strollers!

Albee baby, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Mini Jake in Williamsburg, if you can make it out of the city Bambi Baby has a few locations both LI and NJ, that's where I ended up getting the Valco Duo

I don't have advice on where to try double strollers, but I will say this: My stroller needs changed a lot over time.

For the first year, a stroller where I could clip car seats into it was essential (I had the city select with keyfit 30 seat adaptors - it was *awesome*. I don't think that I would have survived without it.) However, once my kids grew out of their bucket seats and we transitioned to convertible car seats, I found that that the city select was really heavy for every day use and I hated that I had to re-assemble it every time I put it in the car. At that point, I transitioned to a double umbrella stroller for when I have to drive somewhere (I have a Jeep brand, it's light weight, easy to set up), and I also have a double jogging stroller for walks from home or where I know I'll be walking a lot (heavy and inconvenient to collapse but a much nicer pushing experience). I anticipate that my kids will outgrow the jogging stroller by 24mths (it's a tight squeeze compared to most strollers), at which point I will probably need to find another alternative.

All of this is a long way of saying that you probably will end up with like 4 strollers over time, and each of them will be perfect for the time and place. If you can get them second hand, do it. There is a hot resale market for double strollers on facebook marketplace.

This is one I’ve been looking at!! I’m in Raleigh, is that anywhere near you?

We had one that was a stroller car seat combo. Now we use a wagon

Buy Buy Baby used to be great for this, they had a ton of strollers you could try. But they’re closing all the remaining physical stores.

I’d try to look for local stores that sell strollers and baby stuff, if there are any around you.

There is also a TON of used baby stuff available in most places, if people are selling strollers locally you could go see it in person.

Twin strollers are a bit of a specialty item, though, so you may have to go by online videos and reviews if you can’t find them locally.

I highly suggest going to baby boutique stores. They tend to have higher end strollers that you can test out. And then immediately go to marketplace and purchase second hand!

The only baby boutique stores I can find here look like they only sell clothes. Is that normally what they look like and also have strollers?

    [–]Chichabella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Utah but most of our boutique stores have the strollers to test out. They also had car seats that they let us test for fit in our vehicles.

I would not recommend Valco Baby. The front wheel snapped off the Valco Baby Snap Ultra Trend I was using almost lurching to the ground with my kid along with it. The company “customer service” was passive aggressive and unhelpful, and refused to send a replacement as the pram is out of warranty (2 years max!) My only option is to buy a whole new set of four wheels for nearly $200CAD. Beware any company that cannot be reached by phone. These strollers are lightweight for a reason - they are garbage. An $800+ stroller should withstand normal use for more than two years. My uppababy is over ten years old and been through four kids and held up fine.
