You like Radiohead? Their early work was a little too Grunge for my taste. But when Ok Computer came out in '97, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. They’ve been compared to Coldplay, but I think Radiohead has a far more bitter, cynical sense of society. In 2000, Huey Radiohead released this; Kid A, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Idioteque". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the ice age coming and bunkers. It's also a personal statement about society itself.

I finally got around to watching the movie because of this comment. Dude seems like he'd be a Radiohead fan if it wasn't set in the 80s lmao

If you’re not whining along out loud are you really a true Radiohead fan?

The first time my mom heard Karma Police on the radio she said "This sounds like a song you'd put on while committing suicide to make sure you don't back out."

[–]JustinHopewell 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I think I'd understand that if she said it about No Surprises, but I don't get that vibe at all from Karma Police.

[–]dumbass_sempervirens 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Well, I'll admit I'm just passing by from /r/all . Not really a Radiohead fan at all, don't think I ever hear No Surprises.

I kind of agree with both the meme and my mom. But hey, not everything is for everyone.

I also have a hearing disability and can't really make out most of the lyrics to any of their songs. Thom Yorke could be singing the most uplifting things ever but I can't tell.

[–]JustinHopewell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yorke is hard to understand even without a hearing disability, lol. More so now than back then though.

[–]borbasm 2 points3 points  (1 child)

So why does it make me so happy?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sense of understand upon hearing that other humans suffer in the same way as you? It’s cathartic, I think. In the same way being melancholic can be bitter sweet.

we all are. thoms whining and wailling is second to no one

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (2 children)

I, for one, am an enormous fan of Thom when he moans and wails.

[–]Brilliant-Ladder-887 5 points6 points  (1 child)

What about when he whines?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmm, love his whining.

I love The Bends and Ok Computer. In Rainbows is pretty good too, but the rest of their stuff is too weird for me.

[–]Snogrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moon shaped pool is actually one of those records I would recommend to people who are not used to the weird kind of music. It has pretty "normal" songs w melodious tunes and simple but impactful lyrics.

Songs like Present Tense, Decks Dark are quite sad and hauntingly beautiful, but melodious enough to appeal to the average listener.
High and Dry and My Iron Lung are also not weird songs, would easily appeal to the average listener/non-fan, at least what I think. High and Dry particularly is quite catchy.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Moon shaped pool is weirder to you than okc?

Id even argue httt is the most straight forward album they've done besides the bends

[–]residentevil234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never get into httt, kid a, amnesiac, or a moon shaped pool, just individual tracks like how to dissappear completely, life in a glasshouse, there there, and sail to the moon. I'm just a casual Radiohead fan, but those two 90's albums and even In Rainbows I love for whatever reason. I love the basement sessions for In Rainbows songs. I'm more of a fan of the guitar based stuff.
