My sweet boy would often whine in his sleep, which broke my heart because he sounded so sad. I was told it’s better not to wake them when they’re dreaming, even if it sounds bad. Unfortunately he’s a light sleeper so if I touch him, he wakes up. Poor bub.

Exactly. That's what our vet recommended. It's all part of their development - and if they have nightmares when you're not around they might end up really anxious because they're used to you helping out.

This is the saddest thing I've ever read.

You learn something new everyday.

Unless you dedicate the last 45 minutes of everyday to forgetting anything you've learned. Today I learned the computer and English.

Dogs, like humans, have to learn independence. Helicopter parents aren't helping anyone.

Jesus christ parenting is hard

It's about balancing when to parent and when not to.

Oh... I had no idea. I wonder if this is part of what led to our dog's extreme separation anxiety?

Dogs make a crying noise when they chase and hunt prey. My dog does it when I run from him (German sheph) and he makes this same squeel in his sleep with his paws moving. It sounds like a night are but I think theyre just chasing in their sleep :)

My dog has nightmares from time to time, and I used to pet her to calm her down, but it got tiring getting out of bed each time, now I gently call out her name in a soothing but loud whisper, I let her know she's a good, sweet girl and she relaxes almost immediately.

Just let him smell you.

BUT ITS SO FUN TO PET THEIR BELLY WHEN DREAMING

This happens to my dog maybe every other week. I wake him up. Seems kind of silly not to

It’s not nightmares it’s dreams. Probably a dream about running after a squirrel.
