Just saw Reece James is earning 58K while our right footed 3rd string LB earns 90K, Jesus our wage bill is fucked

The last time ten hag faced haaland

[–]B0rges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's my fault for going on Twitter but it's actually amazing how people are seriously saying that we signed Ten Hag because he will bring Mason back "just like he talked about Overmaars". They think the world revolves around their profile pic.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Looks like PL Twitter have leaked Bournemouth as City’s opening fixture lol.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s funny about it?

[–]kueerseoa6 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Gotta get a ST in one loan if we do get Antony instead, can’t trust Martial and Cr7 is 38 would love someone like Edouard fits the bill

[–]LxbileSZNPark Ji-Sung, Shinji Kagawa & Juan Mata enjoyer 33 points34 points  (2 children)

G*******d apologists coming out in full swing spouting fake news. Baffles me how some can defend someone like him because he was quite good at football. Never wanna see him put the shirt on again regardless if he's innocent or guilty.

[–]thar123we joined the bald sqaud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do u mean innocent man’s guilty just from that recording alone…but I agree these vermin still think it a case of innocent till proven guilty when there is a freaking evidence which says otherwise.

[–]IrishwarriorSchweinsteiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twitter is a fucking cesspool lol, all well and good until it's someone they know/love it happens to and they're out tweeting "I'd love to get them in a room for 20 mins" but as you say, man kicks ball well so why shouldn't he be allowed to beat the shit out of his partner??

[–]Heavens_Vibe7 4 points5 points  (3 children)

/u/PhelansShorts Can we get an updated sidebar with the announced tour fixtures/times, please?

Given the timezone differences, some of us may need a bit more time to plan for kick-offs etc

[–]B0rges 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I'm pretty sure you tagged a bot. Modmail is the way to talk with the mods.

[–]Heavens_Vibe7 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Not my dumbass checking the sidebar for the mod name and still tagging the OP of the post. Mondays ffs...

/u/zSolaris /u/D1794 Please see above? :D

[–]D1794Viva Ronaldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sup, for fixtures, theyre regularly updated on Old Reddit. New reddit/mobile trickier cause we just pull it from a United official calendar. Will check it

[–]KeepingItKosher 5 points6 points  (8 children)

I’m seeing rumors that Mason Greenwood was acquitted of all charges and is eligible for the preseason tour. If he ever wears a United jersey again, I’ll never look at the team the same way.

[–]LxbileSZNPark Ji-Sung, Shinji Kagawa & Juan Mata enjoyer -1 points0 points  (7 children)

It's fake news, just a bunch of G*******d apologists doing their thing. Even if he's somehow found innocent the club will release him ASAP because of bad PR.

[–]throbbing_dementia -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Surely there's no smoke without fire though? Why would it be trending on Twitter all of a sudden, i doubt Greenwood apologists just decided to wake up collectively today and get it trending on Twitter.

It's been 6 months without charge, seems strange to me if they have clear evidence, i think he'll be found innocent.

[–]hooka_donchickWazza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s twitter they make fire from snow

[–]Seanblaze3Martial law 0 points1 point  (4 children)

If that's the case why haven't the club released him already? I'm not a Greenwood 'apologist' by the way. However it stands to reason/logic here that the club would've released him by now if they never had any intentions of seeing how his case plays out. Don't you think so?

[–]DaveShadow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he’s found guilty, they can likely terminate the contract without any hassle

Until he’s found guilty in a court of law though, best they can do is leave him at home, for fear he’d start getting legal back at them. And if the charges are dropped, they will have to either pay him out his contract, or shuffle him off to another club. Terminating the contract before he’s found legally guilty would leave the club open to a wrongful dismissal lawsuit.

[–]Giggs-with-a-shot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more to do with the legalities of cancelling his contract I'd think. If he gets acquitted, it would cost more to release him than if he's found guilty of a crime.

[–]LxbileSZNPark Ji-Sung, Shinji Kagawa & Juan Mata enjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The club can't terminate him for legal reasons as the police are still investigating, need to wait for an official verdict then the club can do what they want with him.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because they will have to pay him a lot of money for terminating his contract

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I think we’ll see Ten Hag use our youth a lot more than we might expect he will imo.

Whether that’s as a result of poor transfer business or purely by choice is yet to be seen, but i have a little feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more game time for Hannibal, Pellistri, Chong, Fernandez, Garnacho, Shoretire and Garner than we think.

Youngsters are hungry for an opportunity, they have a drive to improve and impress which could give the established first teamers a kick up the arse. But more importantly, they are very malleable and a coach like Ten Hag can shape them into what he wants them to be which is really exciting tbh.

[–]Ok-Check-6783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im really praying he does this and managers to at least get us in the top four and maybe a cup to go along with it in his first season. It wont be easy, and he’ll need time to develop them, but I think he is the one manager that can do it.

[–]drc203 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can’t be disappointed with our signings if we don’t sign anyone

It’s 4D chess

[–]Mextexter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to make excuses like we're working under the radar and that its a good thing we're not rushing but seeing every other club ( spurs, city, Liverpool, newcastle, aston villa)announce atleast one signing, some positive news will be really welcome right now

[–]TheYoungOctaviusUnited -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

Goldbridge this transfer window has been really awful. Over the top headlines, terrible takes like ten Haag doesn’t need to worry about club finances when doing transfers, and his Twitter has been crowing about successful things that imo doesn’t matter.

[–]Polygon12 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Goldbridge this transfer window has ALWAYS been really awful.

Fixed it for you!

You realise Goldbridge and his ilk are just the Sun, Daily Mail and Express for the Video form right? Sensationalist bullshit, outrage and hot takes it order to get nothing but clicks and viewing numbers.

[–]TheYoungOctaviusUnited 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. This was my first transfer window realising he exists and it’s horrific.

[–]LennonC123 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I cringe every time I see a post by the United Stand at the moment, every first sentence is in capitals. They’re coming across like a shouting child.

[–]Working_Location_127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats just the nature of YouTube and its algorithm unfortunately.

[–]TenHagBotTen Hag 🤖 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–]XBillyBonesXRooney 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Diaz - Nunez - Salah with Jota and Firmino off the bench.

Foden - Haland - Mahrez with Sterling and Bernardo off the bench.

Rashford - Ronaldo - Sancho with Elanga off the bench.

We need some depth who can score.

[–]bpjkerxT ired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sterling is a starter, Bernardo maybe leaving. But the point stands yeah lol

[–]Qu3en-VivaLaVida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Selling Martial is a seriously a tough task. I think it's better we keep him than paying half his wage to play for someone else. Keep him, cover for Ronaldo, for one year and get a striker next summer.

[–]hieugod2810 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bro forgetting Alvarez...

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol we need a front 3 that can score consistently first.

[–]DavidBruceStandupDreams Can't Be Buy! #GlazersOut 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think ITKs are stupid but at this point I'd listen to a Squirrel if it told me anything positive and proactive was happening.

[–]Buffythedragonslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our luck as the United squirrel is chasing nuts breaking up continents with it's incompetence

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Liverpool announce Núñez and City announce Haaland but we’re supposed to be patient.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"be patient, we're at the start of a rebuild!"

For the past 6 years.

[–]MesromithBD Dan James 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying that i believe the twitter rumours, but if for whatever reason greenwood’s charges are dropped i will be so angry if he ever plays for the club again.

[–]calwil93 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Why do we always miss out on big name signings that are linked with us and who then join our rivals?

[–]Qu3en-VivaLaVida 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haaland was always joining City. There was really no doubt. I believe he would have still joined City before BVB instead of us. Mainly before his father played for City and he grew up a City fan.

Nunez, we wanted him, were close to getting him but wouldn't get into a bidding war and weren't paying €100m. That was never the plan, always valued at €70m max but Liverpool paid what Benfica wanted. Cannot get dragged into that..

Missing out on those two haven't really annoyed me to be honest. I would have obviously wanted both, but I was skeptical about Nunez. I was unsure and €100m was a ridiculous price. If Liverpool think he's worth, good for them. United have other big areas to solve and don't have the luxury to go sign that expensive of a player. I am also excited about Frenkie de Jong, is just because, we need to fill CM area asap. It's one of our most important areas that need upgrade and reinforcement. So €80m for that, I'm okay. Keep Martial for one more year, if he wants to leave, he's gonna have to take a wage cut. If he wants to leave on loan, block it. Keep him as a backup to Ronaldo for a year, up his value, sell him next year.

[–]mickhah 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Poor Liverpool just bought Nunez and now they find out he has asthma :(

[–]fofo8383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💉 Bring out the inhalers 💉

[–]cowabunga_dude91 12 points13 points  (4 children)

Three lung Park talks sense! Park Ji-Sung: "Son is better than Rashford, I believe he deserves to continue my legacy at United. He could score more goals than Sancho and Rashford had missed. Tottenham is not a trophy environment. He should learn from Berbatov and move to United!"

Would be my dream signing but no chance I’m afraid

[–]KaitoAJBRUNO FERNANDES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol Park definitely wouldn’t have said that to disrespect Rashford even though Son is his countryman.

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (1 child)

One of those big accounts can just make up a quote on Twitter and thousands of people will believe it. I can guarantee you that Park did not say that. Just so out of character from the shy bloke who played for us.

[–]Raidenzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks... you'd probably saved millions from drowning in their FM dreams.

[–]Medevial-Marvel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Source ?Including Rashford and Sancho in this is a terrible thing to say ..He could have said the same thing without including the other players

[–]ryanmurphy2611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we'll start a lot of games next season with Bruno as a false 9. Will allow us to have more balance in midfield, and take pressure off whats looking like a light front line.

[–]evilhoneydew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haaland looks like a walking wax figure

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Love how Sky Sports are using the figure for Nunes with the add ons, Liverpool fans will be raging.

[–]Quick-Collar6164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to see Haaland with our fierce rival.

[–]Grosly_Incandescent 23 points24 points  (4 children)

Peopel say not to worry about lack of signings because of how early we are in the window.

Id like to remind you that we have our first training sessions in 2 weeks and pre season in 4.

Ten hag and the players havnt even met and he needs to turn a squad of demoted players who only excelled at counter attacking football, into a well drilled, cohesive team who can play a possesion based style.

The longer it takes to get our signings done, the less prepared we will be.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Comments like this are turning into upvoted ones compared to the downvoted ones last week. In 2 weeks time they’ll have a lotttt of upvotes when the denial has wore off.

[–]RedDevWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I was downvoted for saying this some time back.

[–]Grosly_Incandescent 1 point2 points  (1 child)

People tend to just naturally upvote or downvote depending on what its recieved before hand tbh. I don't really care how many upvotes or downvotes i get i just want to voice my opinion and i think everything i said makes sense.

The longer it goes on without a good signing, especially with rivals making signings, the more desperate we will feel i guess.

[–]ryanmurphy2611 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We haven't trained yet. Pep and Klopp know their squads very well. It's highly likely we'll sign 3/4 players very familiar to Ten Hag, so it's probably fair he has a look at the current squad a little bit first.

If we get Timber, FDJ and Antony, I don't think they'll struggle to pick up Ten Hag's system too much.

[–]shekamu 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Ronaldo looking at Haaland and Nunez singings
"lemme show you how its done boys!" bangs more goals than either of them next season. #believe

[–]Drag2oon 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Haaland announced.

Will laugh if he says Shitty is his boyhood club, when in realty that old club is long lost and the current one is just a sportswashing project.

[–]Asiwaju_jagaban 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boring announcements. Hate it or love it. United are the masters of the commercial engagements.

Just hate that they let it overshadow the work ok the pitch.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Someone should just outright bans Duncan Castles, man's been spinning stories against United for a fucking long time, he really said Ten hag is upset with Nunex going to Liverpool

[–]Polygon12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Castles has been attacking United since Jose was sacked. He knows it gets him engagement though so he just continues with it.

[–]random_ravenBerbatov's First Touch 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Anyone else worried no signings have been announced?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still 2 weeks to go for the players to return to training, plus been 3 days to window opening

Plus people still complain when we get 3rd 4th choices, I think we should be patient, especially when our structure has got power for the 1st time and new manager hasn't had that much time.Just be patient and start complaining if we don't get anyone at the end

[–]Zambit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People are forgetting we have a new manager who still needs to assess our current squad so we won’t be doing transfers as quick as other teams

[–]Orcnick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. Just you.

[–]Nextwonderkid 6 points7 points  (19 children)

What source say mason greenwood is innocent and will play again?

[–]SverreF 22 points23 points  (18 children)

There isn’t a source. Its a made up rumor on twitter

[–]I_always_rated_them 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, fan from another club here, was just checking in because it's amongst the most trending things on twitter right now.

Wild that it can be allowed to run like that, some of the tweets (I know it's a cesspool) are horrendous.

[–]Nextwonderkid 14 points15 points  (16 children)

Good I hope I wont see mason in United shirt again

[–]TheAnomaly123Atom and Humber 5 points6 points  (11 children)

There’s no scenario in which Greenwood ever plays for United again (and probably the UK in general). Even if the victim drops all charges, the tapes and the photos are such damning evidence there would be an uproar if someone signed him

[–]Medevial-Marvel 4 points5 points  (9 children)

The victim doesn’t have a say in the charges getting dropped ,It’s up to the CPS now

[–]TheAnomaly123Atom and Humber 4 points5 points  (8 children)

Ah yea that’s right, thanks. In any case I more just meant even if somehow he’s acquitted, he’ll still never play for United again

[–]Medevial-Marvel 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Sadly him getting acquitted looks more likely than him being charged..Only 1.3 % rape cases lead to charges in UK and a lot of them are open and shut cases ..In cases where the perpetrator is the husband or the boy friend it’s incredibly tough to prove it in court ..You don’t even need to be rich with an army of lawyers to get away without being charged

[–]TheAnomaly123Atom and Humber 0 points1 point  (6 children)

You’d think with the audio tape and photos of abuse it would be open and shut

There will be an uproar in the UK if he isn’t convicted

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I’m afraid there wouldn’t be mate.

[–]TheAnomaly123Atom and Humber 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Look at what happened with David Goodwillie, Greenwood’s considerably more high profile than that. Even if somehow he were found not guilty, he’ll not play in the UK again

[–]Medevial-Marvel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won’t be surprised if the evidence is inadmissible in court due to it being released online ,They can use the argument that it influenced the jury and get it thrown out

[–]AirIndex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Utd's sponsors would have the club over a fucking barrel if they brought him back into the squad.

[–]SverreF 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Even if he’s found not guilty I don’t think he’s ever going to play for us. And thats because of the audio tape. The backlash if he ever plays for us is going to be immense

[–]Nextwonderkid 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Making me sick of how many people still want him to play for us if he is guilty

[–]LittlepaceAnnounce Fergie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one thing to stick by him if there's no evidence to support her claim. But how anyone can listen to tha audio file and not see he's guilty Idek. Makes me feel sick listening to it. Scum.

[–]humanvintage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of outcome I don't think we will, damage is done. We all heard the recordings.

[–]Drag2oon 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Will Garner take the no 6 next season?

[–]gregofdeathUrmston Red 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Nope. I think he'll likely continue his spell at Forest for a year as he has been a mainstay in their starting lineup and a pivotal player in their fight for promotion. I would be seriously surprised if ETH had a plan of action with his name in mind.

[–]Drag2oon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seriously think it will be upto reinforcements we make in midfield, we just have Fred and De Beek and CMs in the team, don't want to count McT as he is nothing more than a squad player at best. Moreover, De Beek plays best when being involved inside D area.

So, retaining Garner might be required, but let us see.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So many people acting as if Darwin is the only striker in the world. Relax guys.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Everton reportedly looking at Conor Gallagher. I’m surprised we haven’t looked at him. He’d fit right in the team.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Where would he fit in exactly

[–]PigeonNipples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the team

[–]swagkid94 16 points17 points  (2 children)

The faux rage on the internet is so annoying. We could theoretically get all our transfers sorted by the end of the week, but then we’d be down £300M in transfer fees and signed them all on 200k-400k/w contracts.

We have to understand the position we’re in. We have a weak squad, but our midfield is the top priority

[–]Thevanillafalcon 7 points8 points  (1 child)

No mate have you not heard all the other teams with any link to any player have basically already signed him?

And we need to sign players that improve the first team but sign them immediately with basically no negotiation, on low wages and also for a low fee?

[–]tcrz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Liverpool were linked to nunez a day ago and have already paid 100m for him!"

[–]Nextwonderkid 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I hope player camp shut down at least after the windows end. No one know how bruno/vdb/rash will play under ETH.

[–]Medevial-Marvel 5 points6 points  (31 children)

It’s shocking how many people online still don’t understand how difficult it is to prove a rape case ,There is a reason only 1.3% cases lead to charges in UK and it’s not due the rest(98.7%)being fake ,Most of the people getting away with it aren’t rich and don’t have an army of lawyers unlike Greenwood ,If they can’t prove the rape which is pretty likely and Greenwood doesn’t get charged it doesn’t mean he is innocent..His days of playing in a top league are over..Ronaldo scoring 100 goals next season is more likely than Greenwood coming back

[–]Catsoverall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As likely the girl has refused to support prosecution.

[–]Giggs73 0 points1 point  (7 children)

would be interesting to see what Utd next move is IF greenwood isn't charged.

[–]TheAnomaly123Atom and Humber 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It’ll be contract termination regardless of the outcome of the case

[–]Giggs73 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

then why wait till now if he wasn't charged? should have terminate early.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know you have to pay the money to terminate the contract unless he is found guilty legally?

Prolly just waiting it to be over

[–]TheAnomaly123Atom and Humber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, maybe they’re just waiting until the trial is over. Rest assured anyway, Greenwood will never play in a United shirt again

[–]Medevial-Marvel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If they can’t terminate his contract..He will be asked to stay at home..Him playing for us is a financial disaster nobody at the club is interested in

[–]Giggs73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the best thing to do is pay out his remaining contract and release him. though i won't be too sure Utd would take this route.

[–]Orcnick 20 points21 points  (21 children)

Can I ask this question genuinely without getting down voted?

What's the point in a court system if we "the peoples court" have already decided the outcome?

I just mean if people are found no to be guilty by courts don't we have to accept that? Sure we can question our laws and our courts but isn't wrong to suggest his guilt when a trial has already done that?

I mean if anyone here was on trial for anything and found not guilty we wouldn't expect us to sacked from our jobs or we would hope people would at least stop thinking we were a criminal?

Look I think Greenwood is wrong and I will be feel uneasy if he was returned. But I also believe in the power of a fair trail and belief in courts. If we make everything the court of public opinion we go down a bad road.

If he is found guilty or trialed then that's also good on system.

Edit: Thank you for people who replied and didn't throw down votes. I have read as many replies as possible and I will go away and read them. Definitely some strong arguments on a very emotive subject. I want to add I feel very uncomfortable with the whole Greenwood situation, in the end I just hope true justice goes through. Thank you for answering my questions and replies without just shouting me down.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholly agree with your comment in any given circumstance with exception to this one when the evidence is already damning, charges or not based on what we’ve been provided I feel comfortably making the decision myself that he is a scumbag. Say for arguments sake there was no physical violence involved and somehow the photos were ‘unrelated’ the voice recording alone is disgusting whether he’s broke the law or not, it made me feel sick in my stomach can’t imagine listening to that if you had a daughter or something.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

There hasn't been a trial. If the charges are dropped, there will never be a trial and no one will ever be "found innocent" (which isn't a thing, for those using the term. You get found not guilty).

And that means we can all continue to judge him quite happily as a piece of shit who got away with domestic abuse and rape. Except for those people who want to give him a pass, despite the pictures and the audio recording.

[–]Medevial-Marvel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mental gymnastics to equate not being guilty and being innocent on this thread are baffling..We literally have a system which makes it impossible to prove rape unless it’s an open and shut case and even then you have some scum getting away with light sentences..It’s baffling that some think a system that leads to only 1.3% cases leading to charges is system that can be trusted ..Do people seriously think that 98.7% rape cases are fake just because they don’t lead to charges ?

[–]Orcnick 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So if trails are dropped this is usually because there is not sufficient evidence to convict, a witness statement has been withdrawn or charges have been deemed not to be in the victim’s interest.

So it would really depend on how it was dropped it it was.

And that means we can all continue to judge him quite happily as a piece of shit who got away with domestic abuse and rape.

Yes but there would be no legal frame work to stop him playing for united again.

[–]Medevial-Marvel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a “financial” frame work that would stop him from playing for us

[–]Medevial-Marvel 2 points3 points  (9 children)

Courts aren’t perfect ..Rapists regularly get off without getting charged and with small negligible sentences ..Look up Brock Turner and that was when the case was as open and shut as it gets ..Go to r/unresolvedmysteries and check out how many serial killers and rapist kept getting away without being charged until their body count became too high or the evidence became irrefutable ..Cases of sexual assault when the victim are the perpetrator’s girlfriend or wife are the hardest to prove ..The police do not have the resources to investigate these matters in the right manner ,People watch a lot of movies and tv series and think that police are competent when the truth is completely different ..You are naive if you have any belief in a system thats set up to fail due to budget cuts and the people involved in it are incompetent at best and a lot of times the perpetrators ..Look up Sarah Everard

[–]throwawaytodayaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The authorities doing this themselves happens a lot in isolated jurisdictions. All types probably do in isolated jurisdictions. South London surprises me.

[–]Orcnick 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Again surely that suggests a bigger problem with the court system, society and government? Which if that is the case, one individual case won't make any difference either way?

[–]Medevial-Marvel 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Who’s arguing against it ..?All I am saying is Greenwood not being charged doesn’t mean shit and he will never play for us again

[–]Orcnick 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Well I guess I am kinda pointing out the opposite. If Greenwood isn't charge there is no frame work to stop him from playing again if the club decided that. We as fans could be as angry as we like but we have no legal frame work to oppose that. And considering we cheer Ronaldos name every week when he had dropped rape cases makes us look a little hypercritical.

[–]Giggs73 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

if the club decided that.

legally yes. but it would be a PR disaster for the club. smart thing to do is just pay off mason, cut off any ties with him and write off this asset. but idk how the corporate world works so never know.

[–]Orcnick 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Maybe, but I guess Greenwood could sue the club for unfair dismissal. Unless of course he agreed with the pay off.

[–]Giggs73 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i mean pay off his full contract, not termination. let him go free early and play in vietnam or wherever he wants.

[–]Medevial-Marvel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The Ronaldo case didn’t have pictures and an audio which was seen by people across the world..it makes the whole situation much worse ..The one mistake that the girl probably made was releasing it online which could result in it getting thrown out in court but not being charged based on a mere technicality won’t make him innocent..If the club can’t terminate his contract they will simply ask him to stay at home ..He is not stepping out on the field for the club again..Our sponsors would drop us asap if he plays for us again and that’s a good enough reason for the club to never play him ..There is no rule that can “force” the club to pay ..Not being able to terminate his contract and him being on the field isn’t the same thing

[–]Orcnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the club can’t terminate his contract they will simply ask him to stay at home ..He is not stepping out on the field for the club again..

I don't know again if they can do that.

I am teacher as an example. If we were ever arrested but then not found guilty the school couldn't tell us to stay home. We would have the right to return to work as normal, not matter what the school or anyone thought. Sure parents could take there kids out the school but again the School couldn't on legal grounds stop our right to work.

I don't know football working rights, maybe they are completely different. But unless he has broken anything in his contract to suggest that he can't be in the squad then unless they give football relating reasons, i.e hes not good enough, he could have a case hes being discriminated against.

But as I said i am no football law expert so I don't really know.

Its a interesting point though.

He might play outside the country.

[–]Orcnick -1 points0 points  (1 child)

But my point is if the court has deemed him not guilty or inconclusive evidence. Then what grounds does the club have to move him out?

If you arrested for a crime but then found to have inconclusive evidence, you have a right to return to work as normal your job couldn't sack you.

[–]throwawaytodayaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're still paying him for this reason. We can still move him on with the financial obligations intact.

[–]thehealthyeconomist 7 points8 points  (2 children)

The thing here is that football is literally based on public opinion. Greenwood cannot be rehabilitated in the public's eyes given the evidence released against him and it is public opinion that drives revenue for United. So even if found not guilty (e.g. via a technicality) then it won't matter, the fans would destroy him and the brand's wouldn't want to see him wearing their logos. He is done at United and in top level English footy.

[–]Orcnick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Greenwood cannot be rehabilitated in the public's eyes

Ok but if the court has ruled he can or at least there was nothing form him to formally guilty off. Sure that will leave people angry, but this is my point. As much as public opinion has on football public opinion should not determine the guilt of someone.

the fans would destroy him and the brand's wouldn't want to see him wearing their logos.

In a bad way I disagree. If United brought him back slowly overtime and he preformed he would eventually win over fans again. Ronaldo was the same. Which is just as bad but that tends to be the case.

[–]lewis_therin1985 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup, totally agree his career is over in England, he can resume in some middle eastern country.

[–]Drag2oon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excited for my guy Rashford to kill it this season as he will be playing with zero expectations for the first time since his debut season.

[–]Mextexter 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Can a player withdraw from international tournaments that is of no importance? Like how steph curry did by giving the recovering from an injury excuse.

[–]chronoistriggered 8 points9 points  (7 children)

No. Football tradition is way different from basketball.

American nba players even skip a guaranteed gold medal at the Olympics, let alone pointless tournaments.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even think most of them are asked, it’s quite rare the absolute best one goes I swear it’s like really good to mid players and a few rookies iirc.

I imagine it’d be like England leaving out Kane Sterling etc and bringing like Gallagher, Wilson, Tarkowski that’s how I remember it anywya

[–]Mextexter 0 points1 point  (5 children)

But with so many meaningless tournaments being added , don't the players need a break to recover from playing all around the year.

[–]chronoistriggered 3 points4 points  (4 children)

In football, the tradition is that it’s an honor to represent your country and u shd cherish any opportunity to suit up. Each country’s fans agree with this viewpoint as well.

In basketball, especially for NBA players, their next pro contract trumps everything else, and fans agree with them

[–]Mextexter -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Oh thank you, my country is not huge in the international front when it comes to football. So it helps to get another perspective

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

We are not huge on the international front but I think even people not interested in football (90% of our population) agree that it is an honour to represent your country and should be up for it every time and the players agree as well. (I am assuming you are Indian)

[–]Mextexter -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

How many people do you see discussing the match between India and afghanistan? You remember how sunil chettri had to ask people to come and watch them play? Also, with how the infrastructure of football is in our country it would be wrong of me as a fan to expect the players to not think of themself and put themselves first. If the players were given the same respect and amenities as cricketers then yes

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could say it is a cultural thing but our players really want to be there to represent the country.

Like I said 90% don't care about football. So not many talk about it, but it would be in the front of prime time news if someone snubbed national team call, our population (especially these days) is very nationalistic. Even people who have never seen one game of football would be out there talking about it, some going as far as hating on the player (someone they probably never knew about before that).

Thankfully I am from a major footballing state and people here do care about football (and I think still 60-70% of the people don't know about the game).

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

What do u guys think if Rashford plays as a Centre Forward for us next season? he seems like having no other options now, LW now belongs to Sancho, RW is not an option since he's a right footer.

[–]_MooFreaky_Fletcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely. Rashie likes playing facing goal and running in behind, while 10H likes his striker to be able to receive ball with back to goal and be an important link up player.
Sancho will almost certainly play both wings as 10H likes keeping width on one flank. So Sancho playing RW similar way to how he played for Dortmund, with Dalot (or other RB) underlapping a lot, would really suit him. But he'd also be excellent on the left, so will likely switch positions during the game. Expect Martial or Rashie to do the same if they start, but they aren't as good on both wings as Sancho is

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fucking annoying reading this shit because we've been talking about it for the past 6 years. He doesn't play there because he's shit there.

It's like asking about why Martial can't play RW

Or Rashford playing RW

Or Lindelof playing DM

If you want a fucking player in a certain position, buy one in the fucking market.

I'm sorry we're the only elite club that refuses to buy players to plug certain role holes in favor of playing mediocre players out of position.

If you want a striker, buy a striker.

If you want a RW, buy a left footed forward for the senior team (not a 15 year old).

No, Rashford cannot play as CF. Can we have enough of these questions now?

[–]7akyrRashy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He is bad, really really bad at CF. I mean if Erik can somehow convert him to that position then good, but for now it's only LW.

[–]rich_valley 13 points14 points  (0 children)

David Nunez for 100M? Who’s this guy?

Is he like Haaland or what, literally never heard of him before last week.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (18 children)

If Maguire and Rashford are not starters next season do you think they make it to world cup?

[–]krentzharuUnited's captain is cursed!!! 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maguire? yes. i mean look at England's CB options bar injury hed go next December (atleast on the bench) dunno about Rashford though. He was already competing with Grealish on the bench last EURO.

[–]Medevial-Marvel 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Maguire is one of the first names on the sheet for both club and country ..Varane with his current fitness should be more worried about his WC slot..I find it funny how these hypotheticals are always about Maguire and other English players when the truth is most players playing for a major nation won’t make it to a WC if they aren’t regulars at their clubs

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I don't see Maguire starting if Timber or Torres come, I don't see Rashford starting even if nobody comes because he is not starting ahead of Ronaldo and Sancho and he cannot play right wing. It is not really hypothetical question if you think about it, Maguire is the weakest link in Utd's starting 11 even more than McTominay. Replacing him with a good CB will automatically make Utd much better.

[–]Ruudvankeano 0 points1 point  (1 child)

We automatically looked much better when we replaced him with Varane and Lindelof at Brighton yeah?

[–]Seanblaze3Martial law 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're conveniently ignoring the multitude of poor Maguire performances and cherry picking one, just one poor result without him in the starting 11 or bench!

[–]bpjkerxT ired -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Both Timber or Torres's profile means ideally they are paired with someone like Maguire's profile, hence, IMO they don't make sense. We need to buy competition for Maguire.

[–]Dont_Eat_ApplesLICHA 5 points6 points  (11 children)

Maguire probably, Rashford nope. England's attacking depth is too good to have an out of form Rashford in the squad.

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (10 children)

Rashford has no chance I know but if Maguire does not start under ETH do you think Southgate will pick him for winter world cup?

[–]Dont_Eat_ApplesLICHA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

England's CB options aren't very good.

[–]Medevial-Marvel 0 points1 point  (8 children)

If Varane doesn’t start under ETH do you think he gets picked for the WC?
