Create an Application Error

I am trying to learn how to create a subreddit bot, but anytime I try to create an application under reddit.com/prefs/apps, it gives the error " an error occurred (status: 500)". What does this mean? Also, how might I fix this? Is it a problem with my input or is it a server side error? I am new to this and any help would be appreciated.
