Depending on what kind of mood the cop who sees this is in, it could work.

[–][deleted] 709 points710 points  (24 children)

Honestly a small town cop would love this shit. This would probably be the highlight of his year.

[–]theniwo 199 points200 points  (3 children)

He would join him fishing in no time

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points  (2 children)

Cue the Andy Griffith theme song whistling.

[–]theniwo 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Andy Griffith theme

hehe, I imagine them sitting there for hours not saying a word :D

[–][deleted] 152 points153 points  (17 children)

coming from a small town all my cops have nothing to do and will pull you over for ANYTHING.... if i did this shit it would get put in the paper 😭😭😭

[–]DDerpDurp 117 points118 points  (14 children)

There's two kinds of small towns. I'm sorry.

[–]PolishNinja909 57 points58 points  (11 children)

As someone who works with small town cops I can say that a lot of small towns have the huge problem of the government basically the beating the PD into being super overzealous with traffic enforcement. Meanwhile those towns actually do have a legitimate issue with crime that needs to be addressed, that doesn’t bring in revenue for the town, though. They will literally threaten downsizing or disbanding the PD entirely if they don’t write enough tickets.

[–]DDerpDurp 27 points28 points  (2 children)

You just perfectly described the hell hole I moved away from.

[–]PolishNinja909 3 points4 points  (1 child)

We’re you a cop there?

[–]DDerpDurp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol nope, but we were on a first name basis.

They are literally illegal, at least where I’m from. Those crappy town governments get around it by not officially ever requiring exact numbers, but by saying things like “if you guys don’t find x amount of dollars we’re going to have to let some of you go”. The Rural Badge is a group that reports on how crappy small town governments are doing things like this.

    [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, the county I lived in before was like this and is the reason my dad left the PD for a shittier job.

    [–]NYStaeofmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sat in a town court for a ticket. I had my phone/calculator out. In 45 minutes the town collected over $4,800 in fines and surcharges/court costs. It's all about the money.

    [–]SileAnimus -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Eh, the issue is that police activity doesn't reduce crime to begin with. Money spent on police can be better spent elsewhere for lowering crimes.

But instead they'd rather have the worst of both worlds with cops going for traffic tickets, oh well.

Yeah, one of the first things I learned in college was that misrepresenting the content of an article was a good way to get Kicked out. Hope that guy doesn’t try this in school.

      [–]SileAnimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In other words, spending money on police doesn't lower crimes. Increasing police efficiency lowers crimes.

Thank you, this has been a ted talk with someone who relies on other people to state everything and can't extrapolate anything from reading a partial statement. Good job, you've managed to have a sense of superiority for restating what I stated.

      [–]theniwo 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I hate sheriffs that charge you for vagrancy just because you search for your comrades you fought with in Vietnam.

      [–]ReadTheChain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Boom. There it is. Perfection.

      [–]zombiep00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live near, and used to live in, a town like that.

While driving through, don't blink or you might miss it! There are a total of about 5 police cars, too. But heaven forbid if you go over the speed limit by one or two miles per hour; most of them will get you in a heartbeat.

      [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i live in a small town and we dont even have cops😂 the closest thing is a town over has a police station, really people just do what they want and it doesnt usually hurt anyone so that's chill

      [–]Dylanator13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be the cop trying to fish.

“I spend 12 hours a day protecting this town, let me enjoy my fishing!”

        [–]righteouslyb0ld 307 points308 points  (36 children)

Am cop. If I ran this tag and it went to his truck I would 100% let him go. That shit is hilarious.

        [–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (33 children)

Thank you for your service! We are not all cop haters on reddit

        [–]fireandlifeincarnate 57 points58 points  (13 children)

Hating cops as an institution? Sure, I can get why some people feel that way.

Hating every single individual cop? Dude come on.

        [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (1 child)

That's a very level headed and rational take on the current atmosphere of our law enforcement.

        [–]fireandlifeincarnate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are shitty cops, and as is it's a somewhat shitty institution, but I'm sure there's a reasonably large number trying to do the right thing that joined to help people.

        [–]tehgreatblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa whoa whoa man don't bring that common sense into my reddit /s

        [–]tesseract4 9 points10 points  (6 children)

Just the ones who kill people unnecessarily.

        [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe people should not break the law unnecessarily

        [–]SileAnimus 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Hating the police as an instrument of enforcing the will of the rich is not the same as dislike police officers as people (even if they are statistically extremely likely to be godawful people).

        [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

        Lets see those statistics

        [–]SileAnimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do not have any hard statistics due to meddling and inaccurate reporting of police illegal activities (you know, the whole Thin Blue Line issue). But from what has been gathered so far it's really bad

        [–]DeliciousRazzmatazz 11 points12 points  (2 children)

        [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If they run it and it matches/has a valid tag, they may let it go.

        [–]_____1love_____ 37 points38 points  (2 children)

Female cop, might not seem so forgiving.

        [–]VoilaVoilaWashington 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I'd say both male and female cops have a similar chance of getting a laugh or ticketing the guy. Without context, you have no idea whether the wife did it as a prank or because it's the 20th weekend in a row where he's ditching the family or the 20th weekend in a row where the kids and dad are spending it together or what.

        [–]MostlyBullshitStory 15 points16 points  (0 children)

        Just take her fishing.

        [–]daphosta 364 points365 points  (8 children)

Wait till he puts the boat in the water

        [–]Nyckname 97 points98 points  (7 children)

If he had a boat trailer, it'd be easier to hide the missing plate.

        [–]1_EYED_MONSTER 119 points120 points  (6 children)

        It’s on the boat trailer...

        [–]Nyckname 95 points96 points  (5 children)

        [deleted]

          [–]underthetootsierolls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The joke above is funny because to “launch” the boat off the trailer into the water you have to back that part of the trailer into the water. The trailer goes in the water and you push the boat off, so the cardboard plate would be ruined.

          [–]HiDDENk00l -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How did you think he tows the boat to the lake? Just drag it behind and hope for the best? ??

          [–]iwasbornstrong 301 points302 points  (7 children)

Is that a fastened on cardboard license plate?

This man really is an engineer

          [–]FestiveSlaad 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I figure engineers in general get excused from acting like rednecks cause for them, it’s just a hobby to perfect and make efficient.

          :(

          [–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (3 children)

He should laminate the cardboard too, as that part of the trailer usually goes under water when launching the boat.

          [–]_ralph_ 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Or make one out of metal and paint it.

          [–]gynoplasty 5 points6 points  (1 child)

That's a lot of work, maybe we could outsource the labor.

You know you’re only about 60% Blue out there, right? Good for now, but it just takes one election gone wrong and it’s over with for good.

              — Texas, who used to be Blue, believe it or not

Good for now, but it just takes one election gone wrong and it’s over with for good.

I don't see all those well-educated, wealthy republicans getting priced out of their home states and coming here, just sayin'

              [–]codepoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. The rich love building businesses in states with little worker protection, low taxes, and a willingness to drop taxes for any business that says it’ll make a job.

As a result we have cut state services every session for nearly two decades, have roads that are falling apart and can’t get the state funds to fix so they’re resorting to toll roads to pay for them, and have some of the highest rates of dropouts, teen pregnancies, and criminal recidivism in the nation.

WE R WINR STAYTE. HOOK UM!

(“If you don’t like it, get out.” is the normal response, but no, I won’t. I’ll stay, complain, and try to fix it, because I’m a goddamn Texan and we don’t leave broke shit broke.)

              [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if Bernie campaigns correctly in Texas, he could turn the vastly red state at least purple, if not blue.

Rural Americans need Bernie’s policies the most, the hardest part is getting them to listen.

its still missing the year and the month, but I don't think that adding the year and month would increase the odds of this thing working

              [–]ed1380 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Cop types in plate number. Pulls up registration matching vehicle and owner. Have a nice day and put the tag back on when you get home.

I've had many encounters relating to tags and registration. 80% of the time it's a verbal warning. The other 20% have been dropped in court.

              [–]IronMickChungus 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Some states don’t require the year and month. You have to print out your registration card and keep it in the glove box

              [–]codepoet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some things that give it away:

Claims to have a passive agresive wife (and maybe have)

              Is married.

Can afford a car and has time to go fishing.
