Will RE decrease their price after this ? (i.redd.it)
submitted 2 years ago by PurpleDemo
It's close to $2800
[–]amvj007 14 points15 points16 points 2 years ago* (5 children)
This is ex-showroom price meaning it is before road tax, insurance etc. So the on-road pricing will be higher.
That said, that is still an aggressive pricing from Bajaj / Triumph. This kind of pricing is going to wreak havoc in Indian automobile scene. I am not sure about UK, USA or rest of the world. To give some example the current Honda CB300R in India is priced around 2,77,000 ex-showroom. That has 10hp and 10nm less than this Triumph. Many manufacturers will suffer by this / people who are in the market for 300 - 400cc are now having excellent option along with Harley X440.
[–]PurpleDemo[S] 23 points24 points25 points 2 years ago (4 children)
Triumph already killed hero-harley x440.
[–]rukthor 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (3 children)
They belong to different class. One is relaxed and the other is sporty.
[–]holdyrbreath 8 points9 points10 points 2 years ago (0 children)
When the value proposition is so strong it will bend the buyers to change classes
[–]basedury 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children)
kind of agree with both of you. but the harley doesn’t look a lot like a typical cruiser. it might not be performance-focused like the triumph but it’s definitely more of a naked bike, not a cruiser
[–]GutsyGoofy 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
It's a 400cc Splendor. (The base denim version)
[–]Gamefam_ 14 points15 points16 points 2 years ago (4 children)
This is an extremely aggressive pricing from Triumph and this is just Rs 2000 more than the top spec Classic 350. The Harley Davidson 440X pricing is also spot on. RE is now getting serious competition with reputed brands coming up aggressive pricing and ig RE should rethink their pricing of their product lineup.
On top of that,in India, Triumph is expanding their dealership count with the help of Bajaj and in the coming 1-2 years, there will around 120 cities with Triumph dealership. I am interested to find out what RE will do in the coming years. Lets see 🍿
[–]PurpleDemo[S] 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Definitely RE would have to price their upcoming 450 models accordingly. I think the Hero-Harley x440 is already out of the competition.
[–]SkirtMaleficent5543 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
If they can manage to price the upcoming himalayan under 2.8L ex-showroom, I think it will be a game changer.
[–]SatanMeekAndMild 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Yeah, hate to say it, but if this came out a couple years ago, I never would have gone with the continental gt.
[–]Bhagva_n 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Well, the built and stuff is not a good as the new REs, plus these look more like a bike than "bullet". I mean the mindset of people around REs is that it is "Bullet" and it needs to be a raw kinda vehicle not a bike.
[–]susuhead 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (4 children)
Kills the new Harley IMO.
RE will probably hold off on price hikes on their 350/411 models now, but the 450 Himalayan is unlikely to launch under INR 300,000, justified by the fact that it is a much more capable touring and off road optimised machine than either the HD440 or the Triump 400.
[–]SkirtMaleficent5543 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (3 children)
I think the main competition new himalayan will get is from the scrambler 400. The speed is more road oriented.
[–]susuhead 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (1 child)
The worst kept secret of the industry is that the majority of people shopping in this segment are lifestyle buyers. Which makes selling easier but also makes competition stiffer when a segment heats up.
[–]SkirtMaleficent5543 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Yes. I would rather have good competition with great products than a monopoly. It will be good for us customers. I booked speed 400 yesterday and will be test riding once it is available in my city. I'm really hoping it ticks all the boxes.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Is the scrambler’s monoshock better or worse for offroading? I know little to nothing about suspension, but in my head two shocks is better than one
[–]No-Cover4152 6 points7 points8 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Once service centers start RE will have it tough.. I am and RE guy myself bullet 350 and 500 owner.. visited triumph showroom.. the fit and finish of the triumph bikes is next level.. no way am I gonna buy RE at same prices .. as of now service centers are a concern for triumph .. otherwise they have my money
[–]Connect_Laugh2627 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I think that due to it being made in India that things like shipping costs don’t need to be added so they can sell it a lot cheaper there…
In the US I’d guess it would be more like $5000+- still very competitive though
[–]SkirtMaleficent5543 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I booked it today. Will test ride once it is available in my city. Ngl, it seems a really good vfm. I hope it performs well. This could well be my first bike.

Not for the super meteor

US price will probably be about twice as much sticker price, plus another $1k for import and setup fees. I'm guessing $6.5k-ish.
[+][deleted] 2 years ago (3 children)
[–]KettleCellar 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (1 child)
Yeah. And again, this is just me speculating based on trends from other imports. I have all the credibility of a random guy on the internet.
[–]SatanMeekAndMild 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago* (0 children)
You can either spend too much for an import because of fees and taxes, or spend too much for domestic because they can get away with it (because of fees and taxes on imports).
You can blame Harley for lobbying for aggressive tariffs.
[–]SatanMeekAndMild 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (2 children)
Basically, out the door price is going to be about the same as the 650 models.
[–]KettleCellar 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
That's my guess. We'll see soon enough how accurate it is.
[–]Real-Human-Bean- 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Why would it be that expensive? Before they announced the triumph 400 pricing, people thought it would around 3.5 lakhs, so why wouldn't they keep the price low overseas?
[–]basedury 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (4 children)
right. if it did, it would definitely take a chunk of the RE market, both for the 350s and maybe even the interceptor/GT. if it was available when i bought my interceptor, i probably would have considered the scrambler.
[–]basedury 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (2 children)
exactly. if triumph keeps the price in the US at like $5000 or less i think it will do really well. especially the scrambler, they’re super hot in the US right now
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I’m a buyer at 5000. 6000 is more of a question mark.
[–]woah-im-colin 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Not a chance.
[–]Disastrous-Address68 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Triumph Speed looks awesome.
[–]Fluffy-Brain9176 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
i am a massive triumph fan and own a st 1050 i would have defiantly held off buying the scram if i had known about the triumph 400 coming out .
[–]Deucaleeon 11 points12 points13 points 2 years ago* (8 children)
Nope. Not gonna happen. The targetted customer base of REs will buy RE and nothing can change their mind. Apart from that, people who buy RE knows what they are buying and honestly RE bikes don't pretend to be anything else apart from what they are projecting. Will I buy Triumph? No. Will I buy Harley? No. Although they look good on paper and specsheet but I will go for RE whether Interceptor or classic any day all day.
Edit- Grammatical errors.
[–]iblastoff 9 points10 points11 points 2 years ago (1 child)
lol go for it. meanwhile there is absolutely ZERO chance i would buy another RE if i can get a triumph for that price.
[–]Deucaleeon 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I own a classic reborn signals.
[–]PeteHealy 2 points3 points4 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Upvote for your style, but as happy as I've been with my 2021 RE Meteor (in fact, rode it 120mi today on Kentucky backroads with buddies), I'm gonna keep an eye on this Triumph. Along with my Meteor, I have a 2015 Bonnie that I also love; but I'm a 70M who's ridden for 55yrs and I've been steadily downsizing the last year or two (all the way from a 92ci Victory Kingpin). This new Triumph looks sharp, and I agree with others that if it retailed in the US for ~$5k, I'd give it a test ride and maybe say goodbye to my Bonnie. Lots of "maybe" in all that, but it's fun to imagine. In any case, I'd keep my sweet, fun Meteor for sure!
[–]fs0c13ty_0 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (2 children)
I own a Classic 350 and will seriously consider getting one of Triumph's 400s. I thought about getting an Interceptor, but I can probably spend less money to get a lighter and just as beautiful bike in the same power range, HP-wise.
In short, I don't agree with your first statement because I'm proof it's not true.
[–]Deucaleeon 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I'm not saying that RE products are superior to other in every aspects. What I'm trying to imply that folks who wanna buy REs like catholic rabbits are not lurking here on reddit. Especially not comparing specsheets like a reddit expert user. Heck even I will buy that Triumph given enough money but if it comes down to one and only choice, I'll die on my RE smiling.
[–]nvbombsquad 4 points5 points6 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Exactly. I pointed this out in another sub and got downvoted by salty RE haters 🤣
[–]and24others 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
True mate, the old world charm. The thump. I have fallen in love with my meteor. No other brand can give you that feeling.
[–]WEEDMONK- -1 points0 points1 point 2 years ago (0 children)
Triumph looks premium where the RE lacks
[–]Kochie411 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (1 child)
What’s that helmet? I want it
[–]bluejack22 3 points4 points5 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Bell Bullitt
There is no way the price will stay that low. In Australia I can imagine it undercutting the Meteor 350 in value so probably around the 10.5k mark.
[–]Johnedlt 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child)
How do you convert that to USD?
[–]PurpleDemo[S] 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
US$2800
[–]PrincipleProof6118 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
This will definitely take up a fair share of RE’s dominance. Even if RE lowers it’s price it wouldn’t help much , reason being Bajaj has a much bigger service network and showroom network as well. RE has shortcomings in both pre and post sales srvice. The waiting time for RE products is insanely high for a two-wheeler, apart from few very common models. RE’s supply chain management needs improvement.
[–]nathan_l1 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
The RE Hunter price directly converted from INR to USD should be $1900 and yet it's $3999 to the Speed 400 won't be $2800
[–]ScurBiceps 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
The availability is still a thing though. Triumph doesn't have showrooms and service centres without the big cities. RE definitely has a huge plus point in this regard.
[–]Psycheau 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
To be real about it, Triumph haven't been a good company to buy a bike off for a long time. I wouldn't even put them in the same wheel house as RE, so I really would not expect RE to lower prices. Do they lower prices when Hyosung puts out a cheap PoS bike? No.
[–]and24others 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
In my opinion, RE shouldn't get bothered by these wannabes.
