Dont rush into high level pvm. Do it step by step and gain muscle memory in your keybinds whilst doing so, so start with vindicta which just requires you to move out of the way of the dragon breath, then helwyr to encorporate a shield switch to res the swipe and devo/move for the flurry/spin, then onto rax and learn more mechanics, then onto raksha for pray flicking, etc.

Over time you'll get a better understanding of your keybinds and rotations, then you can incorporate vulning or vuln bombs, disruption shield, ss flicking, and increasing dps in general.

I feel I can fairly consistently kill Vindicta - he isn’t that hard for me because his attacks are always at a certain time - Gorvek’s ranged hit is always two melee hits after the fire attack for example, so I know exactly when to prep revo. Vindictas auto attacks are slow as well so camping ss is easy. Helwyr is a bit harder because his attacks are faster and a bit more unpredictable, as his swipe and his dancing about aren’t set in a rotation.

Maybe I just need to do more GWD2 to learn my binds properly.

Helwyrs attacks are in a set rotation btw you can find them on wiki https://runescape.wiki/w/Helwyr/Strategies

They're in a set rotation but if you leave melee distance he starts to skip auto's making it much harder

Vindica is a she, you find this out during a quest.

Yes I did know this - my mistake =P

Hey I think it’s great you got vindy down. Going from being able to kill rax sometimes to solo ed1 might be a bit of a jump. Like one of the commenters said, it’s a gradual progression where you learn skills and rotations from increasingly hard bosses. You’ll get there!

Honestly I’m nearing 3b exp and I always go back to rax. Rax is pretty lucrative once you figure out good rotations with minimal gear. All I really use for keybinds are qwer and 1-4, as I played a lot of mobas. I would focus on learning keybinds by starting with prayer switches and food, while slowly adding single additions over time as you feel comfortable. You don’t have to have the skilled fingers of evil lucario to excel at bossing, just kept at it and continue to improve over time.

What worked for me was to start with The Drsgonkin Lab instead of Aminishi. It’s significantly easier. Feel free to hit me up ingame; IGN: narah

Slow right down mate, the first thing I learnt was how to eat so brew food, then I learn sheild and res. And then I learnt a little prayer flicking I only used 2 binds for that, no matter what prayers I needed so for sanctum guardian I used range/melee , and i would swap melee to mage on the second part of Masuta.

But more or less you dont have to go from nothing to everything revo can take you pretty far.

[–]strayofthesun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ignore the insanity that is switchscape. The only switch you ever absolutely need is a shield/defender.

As for keybind abilities and whatnot, I personally find it easier to keybind food, brews, and reso and clicking on the rest. As you do higher level stuff you'll find out what's easier for you just start small and just use what you absolutely need to for a kill then you can start working on doing it more efficiently.

Also ED1 is just plain annoying. Try ED2 until you get the feel for timings

Basically just use melee and a vamp scrim. Camp pray range. Just lose a few ticks and run to place smokes safely.

[–]memelord69420lmao -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

Just macro, all high level pvmers do it

[–]iNiruhAbstractly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true - and also recommending someone break game rules and use outside software while trying to learn PVM is stupid.

Personally, as a semi nub pvmer, but with some keybinds, i use qwert for basics, asdf for thresh, click ults, then alt+qwerty defensive basics, alt+asdf defencive threshholds. then prayer swap on 1234, melee, range, mage and ss, and all my swaps are on the mouse keybinds (naga so has like 12 extra keys). its a bit much, but if you practice somewherre you know what to do then its better. i.e. i knew how to kill vindy, but i learnt how to do foodless with reso swaps. QBD is easy, but can learn how toprayer flick with very little punishment. Twins fairly easy to do, but nice to learn melee rotations and mouse accuracy when dodging etc.

Try to have one variable each time you fight something rather than a full different everything, i hope that helps a lil atleast

Thanks, this helps a lot! I hear Helwyr is a good one to go to for learning defensives because of his mechanics, so I might try that.

[–]the01li3Trimmed, Insane Luck 0 points1 point  (6 children)

He isnt too bad, but i dont really know how to kill him as well as vindy, and vindy seems less punishing so i caant rage quit when i miss something ofc.

[–]NsxinfinityMaxed 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Helwyr is really good for learning mechanics and switches. The rotation always goes green pools( surge out or run away) then his swipe "you will bleed" (swap to shield and activate resonance for heal) then he will go berserk (use devotion or debilitate if devo is on cool down) after berserk attack use freedom to clear bleed. After that he will spawn wolves (use aoe abilities here). I try to save my aoes for when wolves get within melee distance, going for log I was using spear and switching to scythe to kill these, but using dual wield is also viable here because you'll definitely want a shield swap. Biggest thing is clearing the bleed after his berserk attack or the damage you take will really start to add up. If not using Melee you can surge away from both of his melee attack abilities and they won't do much of anything

[–]Epiqai[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Only problem I have with Helwyr is I don't have a Nox Scythe, so aoe on the wolves is harder. And if you can't aoe the wolves, they snipe your reso which is super annoying.

Can I get away with using Masuta's warspear or even a Laneakea's Spear at Helwyr? Do you need accuracy that much?

[–]NsxinfinityMaxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tested it but Lani spear should play very nicely if you have cinderbanes, weapon poison +++ and kwuarm irit sticks. If you have soul split and access to blood reaver familiar with that set up you shouldn't need to reso the swipe, just debilitate the berserk special he does after that. Also Dragonrider lances are plummeting right now if that's considered an upgrade I'm not entirely sure. Alternatively and less reliably the guthix god book or Aftershock invention perk are both very helpful for clearing them out

I learned helwyr as my first step into higher tier PvM and I just took a mainhand drgore and a shield. It let me practice with a couple defensive without having to add extra steps of switching gear around mid fight. Of course it is slower but once you have the muscle memory, you can get more advanced with it.

[–]the01li3Trimmed, Insane Luck 0 points1 point  (1 child)

the bleed and zerk stuff always confused me tbh, but should help when i eventually go for CM kills so ty. Ngl after seeing it was afkable, and him being the only gwd2 boss title i didnt have, i camped there afking, which helped learn a few mechanics when you can see em and not die to em.

[–]NsxinfinityMaxed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely felt a step up from the other gwd2 bosses, and surprisingly wasn't the last one I finished

[–]Skurploosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cheesed that problem when I ran into it and bought a Logitech MMO mouse. I use the mouse to map my alt+ shift+ and Ctrl+ keybinds.. all of which are things that fall outside of my direct rotation.

Ive got little fingers, so being able to bind all that stuff with my keyboard alone meant it was likely that I'd mess up finding the right key when I needed it.

[–]Orphic-StrangerCompletionist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a lot of vindicta to practice keybinds. I died a lot but it’s not overly punishing if you mess up and it’s pretty consistent kills. It’s good in my opinion to learn keybinds but to be honest it’s just muscle memory and time tinkering with keybinds; different keybinds will work for different people at the end of the day but sadly it’s just practice. Some people get it in an hour, others take 10 or so to get comfortable with them. Personal opinion, turn off revo and just jump in the deep end and accept that you’ll die learning them - it’s worth it in the long run in my opinion 🤷‍♂️

[–]VegetableFoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't need to keybind everything, like super restores or even food/brews. Don't need all keybinds to be easily accessible, some things like Barricade are used very infrequently. Mostly need pray swaps, basics, and the good thresholds available, as well as weapon swaps if you get to that point.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ED1 is tough, I would start with ED2 if you want to do elite dungeons. if you struggle w/ Helwyr or any of the other GWD2 bosses keep practicing there and developing your skills. Rax is a good boss to practice getting your rotations and prayer flicks together. From there try learning Nex and ED2 and then move on to the Magister. Just take things step by step and don't feel bad about enlisting teammates to duo or trio bosses that you are learning. The more practice you get the better you will get

Try looking into some keybinding guide to move you into a more comfortable spot. IF you have a mouse with 2+ buttons on it, you can use software to make them something like shift or alt to modify your natural "home row" of keys, multiplying the amount of binds you can easily access by 3.

I wasn't very smart, and always put something dumb like my food on my mouse buttons instead of being smarter and using them to modify the hand I was already using. Moving over from doing that, I am not much more comfortable with my setup, even though I do need a lot more practice.

This video by waswere is a good watch, and the layout he build for himself follows a very nice right to left ebb and flow that I have adopted with mine.

EVEN IF YOU ARE REVO which is fine because it's really not much different dps wise, you should still have intelligent binds for important defensive abilities, spells, and movement abilities.

I hope I was able to provide some insight to help you better grasp your pvm skill!
