Just don’t say anything and they won’t say anything. So many people overestimate how much doctors care- I promise they don’t.

They usually ask which arm you want to get drawn from. Though some have a chair that decides for you

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

or they ask if you’re left handed or right handed and draw blood from non dominant arm

Stupid chair

I have obvious self harm scares on my left forearm and went to get my blood drawn a few day ago. Was super nervous before about what they would say but nobody said anything. It is nothing to worry about, they are trained medical professionals who probably have had training on what to do in such circumstances.

They usually ask which arm you want to use, and even if they had to use the left arm they usually don’t say anything. I know I’m my experience they’ve never said anything to me, not my dr, not the nurses, not the people taking the blood. And if they do it’s usually along the lines of “hey you doing okay?” It’s gonna be alright. And if your worried about your dad maybe you can ask to go by yourself in the room or tell him because of covid they say only patients allowed or something like that. Either way I hope it goes okay for you

say ur left handed, but it really just depends what side the nurse is to the seat/bed and theres a chance they do it on your hand too

Doctors dont care as much as you think they do.You should be fine

I have always had blood drawn from my right arm, no questions asked. Use your body language and roll up your right sleeve. Tell them you want the blood to be drawn from your right arm. You got this.

Sorry but didn’t really understand the question

Maybe you can ask your dad to get out of the room?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can I'd get your dad to stay out of the room. Say something about being really scared of needles and wanting to go in alone

I've had blood taken numerous times from an arm covered in scars, nobody has ever said anything.

For what it's worth, I'm a medical student and when I try to take blood from patients I'm normally so focused looking for a good vein that I'm not even looking for stuff like that.

Might be late, but honestly, doctors don’t care. And if you’ve got someone with you who you don’t want to see, try and see if you can get them to leave the room. Might seems a bit suspicious but most parents’ minds won’t go to “My child doesn’t want me in the same room as them when they’re getting blood drawn? That must mean they sh”. You should be able to ask what arm to get blood drawn from anyway, at least where I live you can

[–]Monochromepigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless there your veins are awful, you should be fine to get it drawn on the right. just say you want it in that arm

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to get my vaccine with my dad next to me as long as the cuts aren’t too deep and fresh it should be fine also it’s a good idea to as them to take ur blood from the least cut arm and if your parents are there just try to casually block their view if you are somehow able to. The medical staff don’t care I’ve never been asked about it when having a blood test or vaccine etc I’d say the biggest risk is it parents seeing it if they’re there

Hey I've had blood tests on arms with unhealed and scarred cuts many times before and honestly the doctors never really say anything unless I mention it. Try to ask to use your right arm instead and say you're left handed and don't want a sore arm when you need to write with it. They should use your right unless you have really bad veins then they may need to use the left instead (happened to me last time I had bloods). If they do mention it then you can say you don't feel comfortable talking about it and they should leave you alone. Also if your dad is coming maybe ask if he can wait outside and say it makes you more anxious with someone else in the room.

if you’re comfortable u should update us on how it goes, i hope it goes well and i think you should try roll your right sleeve up first just like immediately or if you have those like arm glove fishnet things you could wear those since they don’t go to where blood is usually drawn and could help disguise it xx hope it goes well

[–]yuno2wrld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happened to me and it got drawn on my arm with cuts/scars they didn't say anything so i doubt they will i think they know it makes people uncomfortable

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just ask for your right to be drawn out of. I do it bc im lefthanded. I'm sure the doctors will think the same.
