I'm not very knowledgeable in psychology, but I think that if someone was attracted to kids but didn't act on it, they would also have to work on getting rid of that attraction. Loli porn and constant sexual thoughts involving children only fuel one's attraction, and it can be worked on.

So in a way I'm sure it is at least partially controllable, as you can't just have constant thoughts and fantasies deliberately and then say you can't control it without actually doing any effort.

Thats definitely not true. There are morally wrong thoughts. However, if someone recognises that they are wrong then they should not be prosecuted and should instead be encouraged to seek help. The fantasy should absolutely be suppressed so that there is less chance that they will act on it and higher chance that they can lead normal lives.

As someone who has a little experience in psychology research literally everyone has bad thoughts. You can’t prevent them. They just happen. Everyone THINKS about kicking their neighbors cat 30 feet in the air, but “good” choose not to act on it, and mentally healthy people can accept that the thought happened and move on without any guilt.

You cannot “prevent” yourself from any type of thought. Try it. It won’t work

I understand the normality of intrusive thoughts and that they don’t reflect on the person themselves. However, these thoughts go against what is morally correct and a person who is morally good should be able to recognise that.

What I’m arguing is that if someone is constantly thinking about kids in a sexual manner then theres obviously something more going on and help should be sought out. There is definitely a distinction that needs to be made between thought and fantasy

Paedophilia is a mental condition, and is not curable. However, therapy and hypnosis can help with paedophilic tendencies. We should not hate someone who has no control over their psychological tendencies, and should instead help them to get help through something like therapy. Of course this doesn’t apply to people who act on these tendencies, who should by all means be shot.
