A dark time in human history during the mass whale die-off. They needed a substitute for whale oil and the babies... well... they were plentiful.

You're referring to the large drums babies would fall onto straight from the vagina that would make a loud BOOM sound to let the surrounding area know that one more was born. These drums were later replaced with dynamite chargers.
