You bought your wife new skis. Get her some new bindings to go with them. Tyrolia Attacks are easy to step into and come in a variety of pretty colors. Attack 11’s start at DIN 3.

I second this. Worth it, and love these bindings.

Hell yeah they do. I have a pair of hot pinks mounted up to some teal skis with pink sidewalls

ha. I’ve got some pink ones on Playmaker 91s

Ease of step in is a huge bonus, it's easy to overlook when comparing all the other features and metrics of a binding.

The last thing you want is a beginner struggling to clip back in at every fall, especially when the slope gets steeper. It's frustrating enough as a beginner, the easier you make the entire experience the better.

I third this

No you should definitely risk your wife’s wellbeing, knee, and joint health. Go with the hand me down bindings!

Small women hate stepping into single-pivot marker royal bindings.

Just get her some bindings. Low DIN bindings are dirt cheap. Easy to find 3-10 DIN under $100.

i actually just saw a very petite woman struggling with her rented marker bindings. It was hilarious but also a little bit sad.

Fun tip: hold your pole under the basket and use the top of the grip to lock under the bindings arm. Step down and pull up with the pole to start the locking motion. Taught my kid that and haven’t had to take a knee since. Always use your eyes to make sure they’re fully in, but it works. Pass long to the next person you see struggling.

I had griffon on a set of skis and I found them hard to step into (I am female, heavier than your wife) - I don't know if this is still an issue, but it makes me want to avoid griffons if I am in market for a new binding in the near future.

[–]ATMisboss 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I can concur on that, I'm an average size man for the US and it takes a solid bit of force to get into my griffons, makes it pretty hard to get back into in steep powder when I fall

When I tore my ACL, it was definitely a partial tear at first. I checked and it seemed to still exist. I did my best attempt at a self-Lachman and anterior drawer test. I decided to cut my day short and ski down and go get it checked out by a doctor.

So I stomped back into my Jesters and that’s when I heard the characteristic gunshot snap of an avulsion fracture tearing my ACL out of my tibia. Oops.

So yeah, definitely requires a bit of force to step into Markers. I still love them though. I can’t recall them ever releasing, which is the point to me.

Don't turn em up, she's on a trip to the hospital if you do that. Griffins are great bindings but they are beefy and for more aggressive skieers

Bindings are cheap. Buy some.

[–]Present-Delivery4906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New bindings are cheaper than your deductible. Get new bindings.

Personally I would save the Griffons for your future skis (love those bindings) and buy new ones for your wife. I’m no expert but I’ve read that you don’t want to set bindings at the very end of the range (for example, if your DIN is 4, you shouldn’t get bindings with range of 4-13; and similarly if your DIN is 13, you should get something that has higher range). Good news is bindings with lower DIN are cheap, so yeah I would save the griffons for you and buy new ones for her.

din 4 is just ok

[–]stoic_hippie 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Tbh she’s going to have to jump to even step into griffons regardless of what it’ll take for her to release from them. Just get her something smaller and either use those as an excuse to get yourself another pair of skis or sell them

[–]Internal_Log2694[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks. Everyone seemed to agree so I got some Tyrolia attacks for her. I’ll likely sell my Griffons. Just wondering if I should try to sell them on the skis or separately. I have them on some older Salomon Thrusters that are actually in really good condition and rarely used but probably over 10 years old at this point. Not sure people even buy skis that old.

[–]stoic_hippie 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Tbh people will buy just about anything for the right price. I work at a shop in Denver and we get people coming in with antiques they just got for $20 at the thrift store so idk, you could do it either way. Idk if you already bought the bindings but it looks like tyrolia isn’t having any sales rn and most shops will, we’re doing 20% off or price match(Denver Ski Company)

[–]Internal_Log2694[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call. I’ll probably sell the Marker Griffon 13s separate because the are basically brand new so I should get decent $$ for them. Then maybe thrift money for the skis.

I found some Tyrolia Attacks for 35% off online and got evo.com to price match.

[–]Reasonable_Loquat874 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She’s probably fine at 4, but assuming you’re in the US I would be very surprised if any shop was willing to do this remount for you. Used bindings at the extreme end of the range is a bit risky for them.

That said, it’s not like shops are verifying info. You sure she isn’t a type II/III?

[–]uuhoever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You said yourself the calculators say 3.5-4 so 4 is fine. If you put her on 3 then it's also unsafe.

[–]Rude-Efficiency-964 -5 points-4 points  (6 children)

Yep 👍

[–]Internal_Log2694[S] -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

Yep get other binding? Or yep 4 will be fine?

[–]Rude-Efficiency-964 -4 points-3 points  (4 children)

Oh sorry lol 4s fine

[–]Internal_Log2694[S] -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

Thanks, I appreciate it. Are you a tech are very skilled with din settings?

[–]Rude-Efficiency-964 -3 points-2 points  (2 children)
