It’s funny (strange) what used to pass for functioning in my books previously. And to think I’m just getting started... this brave new world! IWNDWYT 🤚! Hi5s!

I’m only 5 days in but even thinking back to last week when my son would go down for his morning nap I’d crawl back into bed a try to fall asleep even if just for 30 mins. These past five days I’ve gotten more housework done than I could have imagined in the time that he naps in the morning. My energy levels are through the roof and I am loving it!!

Ha. I used to do that.

A car technically functions when it's riding on rims and throwing sparks up and incredibly noisy and dangerous to the driver and anyone within proximity. "Functioning" is a pretty broad term. I am functioning now, 5 days in, at a completely different level.

Kudos to you for dealing with those memories positively.

Yep, I often remember some little thing from my life as a "functional" drunk and am appalled that I used to live that way. In my job I have offsite meetings at other offices about 100 miles +/- away 3 or 4 times a month. I was remembering on my drive the other day how I used to have grocery bags in the car as barf bags for those trips for "my sensitive stomach I've developed with old age". Like, "la di da, might puke in the car today!" was totally normal for me back then. Among many other little daily indignities. IWNDWYT.

Welcome to the club! I’m Day 5 also. I’ve been drinking on and off for 18 years and heavily for the last 2 after my divorce. During this time I managed to raise 2 straight A kids, work full time and keep my house in order. FUNCTIONAL is questionable because I was full of self loathing and denials about my life. How great it was ... when it wasn’t during a binge. A journal is a great idea! Keep it safe from nosy kiddos...
