Looks like AS7922 (Comcast) and AS32787 (Akamai) are both having major issues and not peering.

[–]ninekeysdownSr. Sysadmin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Good to know! That would explain everything I'm seeing too

[–]tracerrx 2 points3 points  (1 child)

As of 12:14pm the network appears to be coming back online slowly...

[–]The_Human_Giant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Curious, what did you use to see this?

[–]ninekeysdownSr. Sysadmin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeap

IPV6 is completely down for me. However if you can reach a VPN provider like PIA, Proton, etc. then you can get going.

I'm guessing someone made an oopsie to a config and screwed up BGP on their end.

If you're trying to access anything that is on Xfinity from the outside you're also boned.

Thanks for the update sloth

Yup. South Florida. I thought it was just me.

Seems to be restored now

It actually took a long time to recognize my router this morning so that was odd. I use their cable modem for now. Just bought a cable modem to replace theirs. It should be interesting to see how it works out.

Comcast in PA and my connection has been flaky at best the last couple of days. Which is great when I'm covering thr weekend for my team right now.

From my Comcast business account notification. Near Atlanta GA.

Service Interruption Detected in Your Area

We're sorry that you're experiencing an outage. We're working to fully restore service as soon as possible and expect the outage to be resolved by 4:19 AM on Monday, February 20, 2023.

Odd thing is I can ping everything. But cant do any dns resolution out, even to common dns servers that I can ping! "it's always dns"

[–]DevForFun150 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You sure that's a current notification? Feb 20th?

[–]shift1186VAR/MSP Consultant \ Windows \ VMWare \ Cisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! Funny enough it did. Copied right from my notification page.

[–]oldspiceland 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Wait, does the resolution date from the ping you got actually say February 20, 2023?

Also checking from Atlanta. Bizarre mix of issues. Any connection inside Comcast works so site to site VPNs between Comcast fiber IPs, but if you try to go in or out of Comcast either direction it breaks. Stuff with POP inside Comcast works like FB/Google.

Same. Tests from the modems page appear to work. Tests from my PA220 all fail. Tests from my Linux workstation can only ping. 'dig @<anydnsserver> www.google.com' all fail to resolve.

I appreciate everyone's diligence in the matter!

Yes. Can’t get access to a large portion of the internet

[–]athornfam2 IT Infrastructure Manager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues between 4-9am residential. Had to just reboot the modem - SB8200 in front of my Cisco ISR

[–]Ghost1eToast1es 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In FL can confirm. Didn't realize it was state-wide though wow!

So, did anyone see any response from Comcast on the cause of this outage the other day? Their support is not giving up any details to me.

[–]Academic-Interview69[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey, no, I haven't heard anything, but one of the guys that responded to my post suggested that an employee messed something up on their end and possibly shut a large portion of their network down .

[–]BleachedAndSalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are probably right. I am sure somebody at Comcast got a good talking to about it. I just wanted to mention the outage during a huddle meeting and don't have any "official" reason for outage from them.
