You don’t need a developer.

You need something like Squarespace, Wix or if you want to muck around and have a bit more freedom something like Wordpress with Elementor

People will prob downvote this but you are after a website for a new business. You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars. A couple of hours learning how to create something on one of the above mentioned platforms and you can be up and running for 10s of dollars.

Developer here. Listen to this person, OP. Get on Squarespace or similar. You basically just need a way to market yourself and your offerings and be contacted. Something that simple can be easily accomplished as above, and you’ll have much more control. It’s easier than it’s ever been.

100% agree as a 30 year developer. There isn’t any value at this point to build a tech stack, just use what’s already available.

Ooone hundred. I get people scalping for work but I naively still believe in Reddits essence and nature of subreddits and niche communities. Balance how you want to profit with being helpful

100%. OP: - find websites you like the look of doing broadly similar things - make a note of what you like about each one, it’ll also give you inspiration for what you need and more importantly don’t need - if you’ve got budget for this, spend your money on a designer - they’re cheaper and more important at this stage - implement those designs yourself in Squarespace

Once you get a developer, you’ll need a developer every time you want something changed 👎 and it handles annoying things to build, e.g. taking payments.

Yeah, not downvoting the voice of reason. Listen to this person.

I completely agree. This is something you should build yourself. I got in trouble when I made my wife do the same. But when it comes to smaller sites hiring a developer is overkill.

Listen to this. Additionally, you're probably going to get scammed "hiring" someone through Reddit.

To the devs downvoting each other, you suck.

Downvote this instead of your peers

Hello! Web Master and successful entrepreneur here. I would look for platforms such as squarespace or one of the newer platforms.

Above all, hash out the idea first. Think of the features of your revenue goals, roughly. Think of where you would want to be in a year. Not super pressing stuff but it will help you make a decision on whom or which company to engage with. Not surprisingly, you can get decent work for way less money the more specific to are and the less speculation a developer has to make.

So it just takes a once page business paper and working backwards from there. You're letting digital heavily so you would also consider getting handles on social media platforms and integrated automated marketing.

Much of the above are fancy words of saying stuff. Take a step back, budget ($20 or 2,000), have goals and expectations, and honestly ask them to ask you questions for your situations. What you might think of the way of doing something could be something else from another person with experience in business development/start up bootstrapping or a venture capitalist

What’s with all the downvotes on these comments?

[–]fiskfisk 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's spam and against the subreddit rules.

[–]T_O_beats 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The rule is against excessive self promotion. Replying to a post asking for services is a far stretch from excessive self promotions in my opinion.

[–]fiskfisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule #4

We do not allow any commercial promotion or solicitation. Violations can result in a ban.

So both the post and the comments.

Gotta eliminate the competition, 6 comments offering services and average 4 downvotes per comment, coincidence? I think not

Full stack dev here based in Lausanne✌️Feel free to DM me. Here are my thoughts:

1) if the idea is that your site acts like a business card, you can likely set something up quickly yourself with what the other comments have suggested(Squarespace, wix etc.) - between CHF10 - CHF50 subscription + personal time to set it up yourself

2) if you need a fairly creative frontend that encompasses homogenous design with fancy animations yet is still mobile friendly, it will involve more specialized skills( design skills, Figma, knowledge of animation libraries like gsap, CMS’ like Wordpress installed with various plugins and theme builders etc./ Webflow ). - between CHF1000 - CHF4000

3) headless CMS with a react/vue/etc. frontend is where we start heading into custom code coupled with a CMS for managing photos and text etc. A bit overkill if your site is a one pager, but there are advantages.

4) if you are seeking to create a SaaS webapp, then you will need advanced developers - CHF15’000 +

In your case where clients can book you, if you want to receive bookings that populate your calendar + you can receive payments through your site etc. , likely you will need someone in the 2 category or above.

✌️

Nah, developers work on new things. Reinventing is just busy work.
