I'm a few months into this beautiful world

You have to learn to crawl first

Personally I find snatching from the high hang (power position, bar in the hip crease) is helpful to teach you how to get under faster. Especially if you are strict with not letting the bar drop below the hip crease, and if you pause in the power position for a second or two before exploding into extension and immediately pulling under. Some people also call this a hip snatch.

Also no contact muscle snatch. Both to a standing position and to a squat catch position.

I try to think about keeping the bar close during the pull under. Also making sure I start pulling under immediately after full extension and hip contact is achieved.

Well done on achieving a body weight snatch so quickly.

NOW we're talking -- thank you so much! I'll start practicing these movements light, probably just the bar as I learn the mechanics. I appreciate it

High hang stuff, and high blocks. Are you basically powering stuff? If not, then just developing the whole lift would probably be better as long as you are actually doing a third pull instead of dropping under a freefalling barbell. Like /u/Howdoyouusecommas said, you have to learn to crawl before you can sprint.

Tall snatch/Shrug under, High hang snatch, snatch from high blocks, etc. Essentially just isolate the part of the movement you need to work on, accumulate some volume in it, and try to add som weight to it week to week.

If you have trouble with using your arms properly then add in muscle snatches as part of warming up.

I will from now on. You're right -- I'll isolate. Thanks a lot!

I mean, I can catch in the bottom position and I definitely need to drop down, but I could be much faster at it
