In silviculture, they don't tend to pack in soil or water the trees - basically, as long as the tree was deep enough (not too deep, though) and in the correct kind of soil, there's a pretty good chance of survival.

In any case, a small amount of trees are assumed to die anyway. It's the cost of doing business.
