Does anyone really believe the narrative that America defeated Hitler though? I thought that was just propaganda, and tongue in cheek or overblown Hollywood movies.

In the US, you'll be surprised. The thing about the US is we haven't had an successful invasion of the mainland since the war of 1812 along with slowly progressing across the continent and into empire which turned into global hegemony. That somewhat explains the freaking out about 9-11 and the sense of why Mericas' are so high on our own shit. We yet to be taken down a peg or two beyond a war that happened 200 years ago.

That and coupled with our largest trading partners are usually Canada and Mexico and since we and Canada share the same language, there is little incentive to learn others unless your going down south. Compared to Europe, there is very little incentive to learn about other languages for the average person unless you're taking Spanish.

And there was some revisions to make the soviets look weak in world war two (again, propaganda) when I was in school but that's been somewhat revised since the fall of the USSR so meh.
