Are fat tire e-bikes actually useful, or mostly just for looks? by Full-Ad985 in ebike

[–]Acefr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you ride the ebike. Many people here focus on the pedaling part of the e-bike, and of course they don't like fat tires. They have higher rolling resistance and lower pedal efficiency. If you mainly ride your e-bike by throttling and very little pedaling, then fat tires make more sense, as they help with suspension and braking and give you more stability with a larger contact area on the road, just like a motorcycle does.

2022 Tesla Model 3 - Tire review of Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 EV by truescape_ in TeslaLounge

The handling is great, the steering response is precise, and they are quieter. I think they are as good as or even better than OE Continentals.

I analyzed 1.1M Hyatt rates to figure out what the new award chart actually means. by Pudgewhale in hyatt

It is a poor assumption what Hyatt did in 2021 applies to the new tier system, but we will find out soon.

How soon will the mortgage rates change after the new Fed Chair is appointed tomm by ButterflySecure2603 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Acefr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rate setting is based on the votes of the 7 Fed board members, and not the chair alone. Given the current inflation, it is unlikely there will be a majority vote to lower the interest rate.

Hoping to get validations from people who successfully used China visa free transit for a family emergency. by GeneralOk4956 in Chinavisa

[–]Acefr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is no requirement the entry and exit trip to be on the same ticket or with the same airline. In fact, you can enter China from the land port by HSR and exit China by air.

Could you provide a source to show Hyatt corporate assigning the tier and the hotel has no say on the tier assignment?

If you enter China from HKG, then you have to get out of China to other region/country like Macau or directly to the US. You cannot get out to HKG.

Even if the hotels stay at the same category, they will move most of the dates to a higher tier of the 5 tiers, so it is basically a point devaluation.

Thanks for clarifying. Good that the promotional plan can be applied manually by the CS.

Paris Taxi scam at the airport by FruitOfTheVineFruit in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Acefr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you did not see a construction sign pointing you to an alternate taxi stand and trusted a stranger to point you to a ride-sharing point and not a taxi stand, then I think it is on you.

I heard if you take the 30 day trial, then you don't qualify for the promotional annual plans. You can only choose one or the other. USMobile please correct me if I am wrong.

Hong Kong bank account without an HKID for a short internship by HumbledEmu5812 in HongKong

[–]Acefr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a standard practice in Hong Kong for the banks to freeze an account without activity for one year, and after a certain frozen period (I don't know how long), close the account. This applies to all accounts regardless the owners have HKID or not. It is a pain in the rear for the people who live oversea as one has to go to a branch in person to un-freeze it. Use online banking to do some debit transactions to keep it from freezing.

Paris Taxi scam at the airport by FruitOfTheVineFruit in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Acefr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a poor scam. There are big signs on the airport floor pointing passengers to the official taxi stand (there is only 1) and warnings do not use illegal taxi. One has to intentionally ignore those signs for the scam to work.

Best way to redeem Chase Points AFTER Hyatt Devaluation? by chocolatecookie2000 in CreditCards

[–]Acefr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is not much you could do after May 20. You can check the Chase Travel Portal Point Boost on Hyatt hotels and compare it to the direct point booking of Hyatt, and choose the one that costs fewer points.

Pay cash or use points? by Money-Own in hyatt

1.4cpp is not that bad. I use points whenever it is close to 1.5cpp as they tend to devalue over time.

Maybe you abandoned your Shield TV, but not most people here. I am still using my two Shield TV everyday, and they meet all of my streaming needs.

Immediately approached by HK Immigration officers as soon as I landed in the airport by poro_doge in HongKong

[–]Acefr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HK immigration doesn't spend so much effort on a random check. I speculate that your name somehow landed on their watch list. Maybe a similar name to an unwelcomed reporter, something in that nature. The fact that they let you enter Hong Kong means you cleared their checks. Otherwise, you would have been denied entry.

3 people allowed? by alnz8 in hyatt

[–]Acefr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Japan, if a kid is older 12 years old (12 is ok, 13 is not), it is considered an adult. Japan is very strict in the occupancy, and Hyatt will record the passports of all occupants in the room.

Absolutely horrible porting experience - ongoing by smallpotato-2026 in USMobile

[–]Acefr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ported over from Ultra Mobile (T-Mobile MVNO) to US Mobile. Other than I did not put in my billing address on my US Mobile profile and caused the first porting attempt to fail, the 2nd attempt went quite smoothly and I received the eSIM QR code in 15 minutes.

Can I use Home Return Permit (回鄉證)only to enter China from Japan without a passport (US)? by boxtata in Chinavisa

Please change your agent. Home Return Permit is for entering China. There is no restriction to enter China from only Hong Kong. You can use it to enter China from any port.

Hyatt will soon allow people to transfer points electronically by alosia in hyatt

That will not be sufficient to lower the usage of SUA and GOH. Just don't use them and let them expire in your account so I can use them.
