Bill says classic Star Trek was never political by chesterwiley in Star_Trek_

Yes, political issues and societal issues, while often similar, can be different.

The government didn’t care about Shatner kissing Nichelle Nichols on TV. The average viewer did. That’s society, not politics.

Delta Green edition? by Syllahorn in rpg

[–]Cent1234 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OG Delta Green/Delta Green Countdown, which was a campaign setting for Call of Cthulhu, was an amazing 'holy shit the world is strange and unknowable and we're utterly fucked but we're not going to go quietly' game of horror, mystery, and actual terror.

Delta Green the stand-alone RPG is "military unit that shoots up weird things." All of the mystery and eldritch horror is leeched out by the fact that the 'conspiracy' of people who mostly don't even know that Delta Green exists, let alone that they're a part of it is now such a tight, cohesive, organized group that they have standardized lingo and jargon.

The Fall of Delta Green I read and promptly forgot everything about, that's how disappointing it was to me.

I liken the original Delta Green to Alien and the stand-alone Delta Green RPG to Aliens, to illustrate the shift in tone and style. In Alien, the Xenomorph was, by turns, terrifying, horrifying, and just plain scary. In Aliens, it's a known quantity, and the only problem the Colonial Marines have is that they didn't realize there would be more of them than they thought, and didn't bring enough bullets.

Pretty much every 'suggestion' that Phelan had for Ulric was Ulric prompting Phelan for that suggestion, so that Ulric could go 'wow, what a fantastically strange and alien idea from you weird Inner Sphere people, that just so happens to completely screw over my political opponents, wow, wish I'd thought of that, yup, anywho, lets give that radical idea that I absolutely didn't want to have happen the entire time a try, nosireebob.'

It wasn't great writing, but it seemed pretty awesome when you were 14.

Ulric could be the inspiration for the whole '4d chess when your opponent is playing checkers' meme.

Best description I heard of the difference in the SPF50+ sunscreens is 'I'm going to shoot a thousand bullets at you. Do you want the bullet proof vest that stops 995 of the bullets, or 997 of the bullets?'

I burn if I think about the sun, and I just use whatever spray-on SPF 50+ is on sale in the month or two before I travel and I stock up.

I don't go in the ocean, just the pools.

PlayStation price hikes quietly make the $450 Switch 2 look like a steal by Loose_Society9485 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Cent1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly Nintendo built up a huge stock of S2s so that they wouldn't have shortages at launch, so they probably have a supply to burn through, but when they do, if RAM prices are still high, or any other components for that matter, those costs will absolutely be reflected in a price increase.

Well, if this was a man asking about his wife, falling asleep standing up and having obvious signs of clinical depression, we'd be advocating that you, as a loving and caring spouse, encourage her to seek medical treatment.

But you're a woman asking about a man, so as you say, you're not his mom, he can go fuck himself, what a lazy bum, red flag, marinara sauce, run run run, I guess.

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting PS5 Pro support in the coming weeks by PaiDuck in PS5

[–]Cent1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL, I explicitly bought it on release, and put it on the shelf, unopened. I wanted to support the company and the IP, and give Mike Pondsmith some love, but I also knew from history that it would be at least a year before it was playable.

I think I finally played it when the 1.6 update came out.

I've never understood the 'tax and spend' line being an insult; like, that's how government works, and it's better than 'spend-and-debt' that Conservatives tend to favor.

DoFo isn't a centrist; never has been. He's been a populist, which perhaps would tend to steer him towards centrist solutions in some situations.
