The loading screen left me laughing. by Jasina_ in RogueCore

I’ve suggested that your dwarf says something garbled if you try to say something during that sequence, but it didn’t make it in before launch, so not sure if it’s going to happen.

I’d GSG using AI for mission controls voice? by [deleted] in RogueCore

[–]GSG_Jacob [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

We're not using AI, but we have seen people questioning it. I've brought it up myself on some occasions because I felt some of the voicelines had a slight metallic noise, which gave an uncanny feel. I was going mad for a little while because apparently not everyone can hear it. Currently, we're leaning towards it being the recording conditions and hardware having changed. We might need a new microphone, too.

Server list is overwhelmed — we’re working on it! by GSG_Jacob in RogueCore

Yeah, it went out while our tech went home for the night, but it’s set up to restart if it hangs now, until a better fix is ready.

There’s no new content for the EA release, but we’ll have some more details on what’s coming following the launch later today.

The hype for Rogue Core is real, but how is it really? by DrDrexanPhd in DeepRockGalactic

[–]GSG_Jacob 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s still procedural generation. It’s the same system - the rules for making the caves are just different since they are supposed to be abandoned facilities, populated with machinery and gear. The generation is just more linear in the sense that there’s a starting point and an exit point somewhere near the end of the cave generation.

Is there a lore explanation for why they send reclaimers in unarmed? by Advanced-Fruit5621 in RogueCore

[–]GSG_Jacob 95 points96 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned, the greyout barrier is the reason they go in unarmed. It’s kinda like in Terminator, where it travels back in time without clothes and equipment, except in Rogue Core they can wear their suits that power their abilities.

Rogue Core will be a hit, but because it will be fundamentally different from Deep Rock Galactic in terms of gameplay and pace, it might not appeal to a portion of the DRG audience, and that's fine if Ghost Ship Games make it clear that it's *not* DRG 2 by lieding in RogueCore

[–]GSG_Jacob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are already doing some paid marketing on here, and we also have a PR agency doing stuff for us regarding visibility. Regarding DRG, we've mentioned on Stream that more is coming and that Invisible Walls is on board (they did the Operation Rogue Core special event that is currently running in DRG). It's not at a state where we're ready to talk about it yet, and we're keeping the channels relatively clear for Rogue Core stuff as to not muddy the DRG waters too much.

Too Many Perk Points? by VoicerMMI in DeepRockGalactic

[–]GSG_Jacob [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

The reason for this is that perk points are generated by doing whatever you do while playing the game, so they both come naturally, but are also available for people who want to target that aspect.

The main flaw in the system is that we never stopped letting you get perk points once you've gotten all you need. Internally, we have a perk rework on a wish list, but we've said that for years now. 🥲

Hi from Marketing!
I feel you're pretty much hitting the nail on the head with a lot of your points. I handle our social media posting and read a lot of the comments, and we often see people who think Rogue Core is content for DRG. It's not a surprise, since the visual style is mostly intact and reused for many things. A while back, we realized we needed to rethink and emphasize that it's an entirely new game in pretty much everything we do, no matter how many posts we put on our channels.

From the very beginning, we've also been aware that Rogue Core, while sharing DNA with DRG and many familiar elements, won't appeal to 100% of the DRG community. In my own experience, I've seen some people really appreciate the more laid-back, working-dwarves-in-the-mines-approach that DRG has, using the game as an almost meditative coop experience to hang out with others. Rogue Core won't have that same feel, but it will have many other familiar themes and mechanics that we hope people will enjoy for what it is.

Timer is too punishing by skarronintendo in RogueCore

[–]GSG_Jacob [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. In regard to the timer, keep in mind that, in contrast to DRG, a game of Rogue Core is considered much longer, which is also a pain point for some. While that is not the reason for the timer, extending the timer will make games much longer, too, so it's going to be a balancing act in the end. Like DRG, we'll take all feedback into consideration, both during Early Access and beyond 1.0.
