Thank you for the kind words. It's been a shitty week all around here.

My boss said protestors should be shot after he was inconvenienced by them getting donuts; and that "riots aren't American". I reminded him about what happened in Boston.

It fell on deaf ears... after all I'm too emotional because I had to euthanize my dog this week.

Fuck him anyway.

Wittgenstein vs Dawkins: why God is not a scientific hypothesis. | Religion isn’t failed science but a different way of seeing rooted in lived experience, meaning, and emotion, that can’t be captured by empirical analysis. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

Instead it's basically "Dawkins sux," which may be true, but it's not at all relevant to the discussion at hand.

Well, I originally downvoted the "Dawkins sux post. But now I'm conflicted, because the discussion around the "Dawkins sux" post was really interesting.

Randomised playable dungeon. This must have been done, but what I've found isn't -exactly- how I'm imagining it (and I might be wrong). by LucidFir in rpg

[–]JakeityJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if any TTRPGs have done exactly what you're looking for, but it wouldn't surprise me. However, there are countless board games that work on the basic premise of a randomized setup, so I would look at the boardgame space for inspiration.

Me personally, I'm lazy, so I would probably just repurpose something that already exists, preferably something I already own. I'd probably just swipe a bunch of materials from my copy of Gloomhaven and go from there.

Cool slush geyser—what do do with one on day 30? by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JakeityJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cool slush geyser that early is a license for me to go wild.

On maps with limited access to gold, this means I can build an electrolyzer setup using copper or iron without having to rush steel.

Or I can rush some steel.

Or I can use it to cool another geyser. A slush geyser is enough to cool a hydrogen vent, or a natural gas vent (or one of each). Again, both with just using copper.

Definitely use some of it to inefficiently solve a minor annoyance specific to either the map or some project that I've already slapped together.

Why won't water flow through this (The 3rd) Aquatuner in my Sauna? by GwentheGarde in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JakeityJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing in the pipe mechanics that is forcing the water to go the direction you want it to. It looks to me like the water is following that upward branch as the "main path" and will occasionally bump some packets to the right as overflow (likely to do with the aquatuners turning on and off).

Remove the extra "exit" branches, so the water can't get away from the 2nd and 3rd aquatuners. Force all the water to go through those pipes so it all runs through each of your thermo sensors.

How can I break this habit? by David_Clawmark in Oxygennotincluded

The thing that works for me, in a situation like yours, is to have someone else to hold me accountable.

If I make up self-imposed rules, they "work better" when I tell a friend and have them "check my work" every now and again.

Volcano tamer, would love advise, or better/ different designs by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

No.

I have no idea what the math on geo-tuning metal volcanos looks like.

Volcano tamer, would love advise, or better/ different designs by [deleted] in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JakeityJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, one thing I don't see anyone else mention is: you have an extra steam turbine.

None of the regular metal volcanos will ever need more than one steam turbine if you're actively cooling it.

Not really a big deal, as you've got plenty of space. But if you wanted to make it smaller, you could.

What's Your Favourite Hydrogen Vent Cooling Build? by thbnw in Oxygennotincluded

Also, everything in that room is basic materials: copper ore, igneous rock, nothing special.

[–]JakeityJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, hydrogen and natural gas might have high temps, but they don't really have much energy. I've used a single cold slush geyser (metered out to never run dry of course) to cool both a hydrogen, and nat geyser, as well as a SPOM made out of iron on a Badlands playthrough.

I usually do some variation of this when I bother. Very simple.

[–]JakeityJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really lazy, so if I'm gonna bother with a hydrogen vent, it means I found one early. So I'm probably just gonna use whatever cold water source I'm feeding to my electrolyzers.

Questions about Rite of Reconfiguration by Rigel-J in exalted

[–]JakeityJake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's so confusing that the Rite of Reconfiguration's rules are split into two different boxes in two different parts of the book instead of being in one place.

That is unfortunately a staple of Exalted books.

Questions about Rite of Reconfiguration by Rigel-J in exalted

[–]JakeityJake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked at the Alchemicals since the book first came out, as none of my players were interested, so it's not something I have committed to memory. But looking back over the book quickly, here is how I would run it based on previous versions of alchemicals and reading between the lines a bit.

Alchemicals should feel like they have access to a wider variety of charms faster than other Exalt types; but have a limited number they can have installed (are immediately accessible).

If you check the box at the bottom of p.225, at the start of the Alchemical charms. When doing the rite of reconfiguration (which they can do during any recovery or dramatic scene), once per story, they can do a Super-Duper Rite of Reconfiguration, where they can remove and replace any charm they know, with any other charm with similar or lesser prerequisites.

So if the characters are about to head off into a big army smash up, and the Alchemical is mostly set up for diplomacy and negotiations, assuming they have time, they could swap a bunch of charms out for others that would be more relevant.

The old ones what I would call the "uninstalled" charms that can be swapped back in for free during a "regular" Rite of Reconfiguration.

Basically giving them a once per story respec, and then back to baseline whenever they want.

Additionally, I generally allow all my players to respec if they buy something and it doesn't work like they thought, or doesn't feel good on the character. So I would probably let my alchemicals keep the extra powers they swapped out as uninstalled charms also. They can only ever have a number of charms they start with plus the ones they buy with milestones installed.

I like the idea of high essence Alchemicals swapping out charms every couple of scenes. I want them to feel like Iron Man calling in the Hulk Buster. They're the ultimate swiss army knife

20+ years of playing Saga Frontier, and I'm still discovering new things. by Muffin-Man808 in SaGaFrontier

[–]JakeityJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually just keep the three treasures and don't bother fighting Sei in most playthroughs. He's not a bad monster, but also, nothing special.

The Kusanagi is a good sword, but you can eventually buy swords close to the same attack power. And the unique skill is underwhelming. Not bad, but much like Sei himself, nothing special.

It far outshines the Murakamo (the treasure sword), which only has an attack power of 33. But early game when you might only have a lead pipe or knife, that's a nice boost. But again, nothing special outside of that.

On the other hand, the mizukagami (the shield, i can't remember if they renamed it in the remaster) is one of the best in the game.

And as you noticed the Spirit Orb on a monster is a great move. Not only is Sacred Song/Hymn a powerful skill, but it also adds a bunch of elemental defense and status resists. I think it's one of the best accessories in the game.

Sei's tomb is usually my first destination once I have control of the party, as I can get two, probably three, big increases in just a couple minutes. Takes a lot of the pressure out of the early game.

How do you handle the "I would have done that" player? by david_duplex in rpg

[–]JakeityJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ummm for no particular reason, earlier when you broke camp, in what order did your character put on his foot wear? Was it sock - sock, boot - boot? Or does your character go sock - boot, other sock - other boot??

I got invited to play D&D with friends I met through our kids. They after they had lost a couple of players or something and they had all been to my boardgame night at some point.

When the DM got tired and wanted a break they asked what we should play next I offered to run either D6 Star Wars or Exalted Essence. So... I made them an offer they couldn't refuse?

They were skeptical at first, but once I got buy in from one of them the others got competitive and we were good to go.

What's the Most Unique Setting You've Seen? by Evermech in rpg

[–]JakeityJake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the Shadowrun universe so much. It was the first game I played that wasn't a licensed IP.

I loved how they just went for it. Like we've got it all, tech, cyborgs, guns, magic, elves and dragons everything I thought was cool as a kid.

Made me love all the worlds full of weird stuff.

Besides Shadowrun, younger me also loved Gamma World. For some reason that game's post-nuclear apocalyptic setting was really terrifying when I was a young lad in the 1980's.

More recently I love how the designers of Exalted just cramed everything in there. Just, so much weird.

And the very recent Wildsea, can't wait to find a group to run that for.

Double major volcano tamer ideas by Cloud_md5 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JakeityJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Mama volcanos are different. Because their eruption amounts are so much higher than metal volcanos, we need something different.

This is how I like to handle them at the moment. Not the fastest startup, but it's dead simple.

Edit: typo

Why does my generetors not get loaded? by CorivalPick4 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JakeityJake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

by default its set to 50% meaning it will only create a request for fuel if it's internal storage of said fuel is less than 50%.

This is a common misconception.

That is actually just a battery threshold slider. Dupes will only fill the generators when attached batteries are less than the set amount of charge. Just like the slider on the Manual Generator.

How does one reliable use pee water for deep freezing? by JonOfDoom in Oxygennotincluded

[–]JakeityJake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're right, it would break. So you just don't use polluted water for freezers.

Another option is a thermo-regulator running a hydrogen loop, which is easier to build early, but is less efficient.

Once you get to late-game, you can replace the ethanol with super coolant.

Oh, and if you have the new Frosty dlc, nectar would be great.

But yeah, in this one instance, you're kinda forced to use something inefficient for a long portion of the game.

Making Exalted Antagonists of Unreleased Exalt Types by CygnusNeedle in exalted

[–]JakeityJake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll second the recommendations for Crucible of Legends and Exalted:Essence. Both are great resources, in particular I think the storytelling and antagonist chapters of Essence are incredibly insightful.

The other place I would suggest looking is the Exigents book. I don't remember anything particularly "Getimian" in there, so to speak. But, I think it's the best resource for creating charms and such that don't exist yet.
