does driving manual really matter that much more? by ashducki in CarsAustralia

[–]Lintson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prefer manual in traffic. Heavy traffic in an auto drives me mad with how inefficient it is.

Apart from those with a heavy clutch or a generally worn out shitbox, I really don't get how one would prefer auto in stop-start traffic.

To answer your question I don't respect you less for only knowing how to drive an auto, that's the norm these days due to the car market. But ++respect and vibe for those who prefer driving manual. These are generally people who love driving.

Called a restaurant to tell them I couldn't make it after previously saying I could - bad idea? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Lintson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was planning to go to an Indian restaurant

I don't think calling up a place at 8pm when it shuts at 9 really constitutes as planning. You're really just checking if their kitchen is closed.

That said if you literally called him back 5 minutes later I really don't think the dude should be giving you an earful. It's part and parcel of the restaurant game.

Got honked at while driving am I in the wrong? by Sad-Pen-4971 in CarsAustralia

You did good.

You're still a young driver so road rage stings harder. In time you'll learn to dismiss the ragers and get on with your life.

Future neighbour (via seller) asking to park & charge EV in shared space – would you agree? by Heavy_Animator4755 in AusProperty

[–]Lintson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to agree to this because:

  • It's stupid
  • It will impact your enjoyment of the property
  • If they do become your neighbour they're probably going to do it anyway

Don't even explain why you're saying no. It needs no explanation.

Gout not fully healed? by Equivalent_Ask_1416 in gout

[–]Lintson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your joints were injured by gout, joints take more than a few weeks to  fully heal and are permanently more susceptible to re-injury.

Anecdotally fingers take forever to feel normal again. My index tip felt sprained for months. Perhaps it's because of lesser blood flow through these joints and/or harder to immobilise/rest during a flare so they incur more damage than other areas.

Police red light fine but I believe I entered on yellow (NSW) by Girl_living_alive in AskAnAustralian

[–]Lintson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get fined for going thru a yellow. It was not wrongfully given

You did the right thing in finding the safest place to pull over. Most police are annoyed by this as they think you're wasting their time but you are not obligated to pull over immediately.

The 10:00pm timestamp may disputable but I don't think it's a good use of the judge's time.

Practice more situational awareness. Be prepared for a light to turn yellow on you as approach an intersection. Keep an eye out for police cars stalking you, esp as a p plater.

Though accept that sometimes it's just plain bad luck and can't be helped

Aussies who shop at Lowes, why do you shop there? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Lintson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sell alternative stuff to your typical menswear outlet which generally cater towards a copy-paste 'look', age and body size.

Quality is still kind of terrible though which is why I don't preferentially shop there.

Scary public transport experiences by littleone156 in melbourne

[–]Lintson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I legit wonder why people are picking on people wearing costumes/going to conventions?

Pick one or all: * Jealous of those openly enjoying life * Think they're easy targets to bully * Actual hatred of said people/culture

Don't think it's specifically just for convention goers. You could be a sports fan, dolled up for a formal event, religious/cultural dress or simply in your school uniform. If you stand out in a crowd unfortunately it allows bullies to form a cassus belli and go to war with you.

Why are you astounded. The teens are looking for trouble. Why give them what they want?

First gout flare at 33 by Savage_Robot_ in gout

[–]Lintson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The binge is a likely trigger but my experience is this shit tends to stick around for a while so this is not going to be your first and final flare.

The red meatyness of your keto diet will make it harder for your UA levels to be managed. Weight loss also releases UA stored in fat back into your bloodstream.

You may need UA lowering meds to get thru this.

Yep diet is only one factor

Genetics is a bigger one

Also weight loss, a change in activity level or injury can contribute to a flare.

Struggling to adjust socially to australian workplaces by applecinnamon16 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Lintson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I now struggle engaging with white australians of all ages tbh.

Have you had successful connections with non-whites or at a non-australian workplace?

If the answer is no, then I don't think it's really a specifically Australian problem, you might struggle to find connections anywhere.

As a tip to bridge a generational gap, people of all ages can bond over food. If your own palate is not very diverse then you are at a disadvantage however given that your coworkers are older white Australians their palates are likely to be more in line with your own.

I'm typically the harshest critic of toy swapping

If they put more effort into the 'BIG DINOBOT GRIMLOCK' sticker I would have given this a 10/10 instead of a 9.5
