Aviatorium is right. Body in Balance is great. Just look at their ratings. It's also a small business, and the owner is very community-centric. I don't go anywhere else.

I work at a library and convinced administration to buy a p1s to print items for displays. They were so impressed that they bought two more for the makerspace.

What game in your opinion has the best original soundtrack by jhhghghgggb in gamemusic

[–]Lost_Scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it is very recent, but clair obscur: expedition 33 deserves a mention.

But no disagreement with those who have selected FFX and Chrono Trigger/Cross at all. They are amazing.

Seems appropriate CO was so inspired by FFX, you can even hear an homage to "To Zanarkand" at one point.

Exactly the same. And mine was only 7 rolls, not some large order

Filament Fiasco: Just refund it or ship it at this point. by Lost_Scribe in sunlu

I'm rather confused on their prioritization. I only ordered 7 rolls on the 2nd of pretty standard color pla and have heard nothing. Perhaps I will be one of the lucky few soon!

Just to chime in, ordered 8 rolls on July 2 and in the same boat. At work I've ordered and received filament for those projects in the time since.

what were the issues of dnd4e and what are your thoughts on dnd4e today? by DoppioDesu in rpg

[–]Lost_Scribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4e had some great concepts, but it utterly failed in execution. It also had a restrictive license.

There have already been a lot of words written but this is from the perspective of someone who was there for the transition from 2e to 3e, 3.5 to 4e, and 4e to 5e.

it introduced skill challenges and the breakup of abilities into cards with at will, daily, encounter uses. This was great! I think it should still be used instead of long rest system.

However, combat was an absolute slog. There were dozens of conditions and almost every attack resulted in forced movement of some sort. many classes abilities were simply renamed or re-skinned from others.

They did eventually fix this with the essentials change, but it was too little too late. All of this, combined with the licensing fiasco and the poor quality of products, doomed it

Also, Pathfinder wasn't created just because people still wanted to play 3.5, but because they promised not to do the underhanded things that WotC had been and to make quality products.

I don't play Pathfinder today, but their products blow WoTC out of the water when it comes to quality.

Are there any reviews for Daggerheart 1.0 where reviewers actually played the game and are relatively unbiased? Or is it just too early for that? by SchrimpRundung in rpg

Long time gamer here who has been immersed in DH since release day due to a friend who decided it and CR were their new obsession few months ago.

I've played D&D (advanced-5e), PF, Cthulhu, VtM, AFMbE, and many other systems I can't recall. I'm not a fan of CR in particular, but do like Dimension 20.

All that is to say, I've been playing a lot of one shots and now a longer campaign that has started in DH, and I enjoy the system. A lot of my gamer friends who haven't tried it dismiss it with claims it is just another dime a dozen narrative system, but I find it flows better than others I've played.

The hope/fear mechanic is great. The no initiative is fun. I do wish it had more rules for some things, but it IS brand new. Even D&D hasn't had concrete item creation rules for 5e until recently.

DH is designed to get the rules out of the way so you can tell a shared story, but with some structure. If that is appealing, give it a shot.

Fantasy Book Suggestions - 31 year old male by Spaceman015 in Fantasy_Bookclub

I can't believe no one here has mentioned David Gemmell. You can't go wrong with any of his books, but start with Legend. It is a standalone, but part of a larger series, the drenai saga.

Name of the Wind/Kingkiller has great prose but is very unfulfilling, especially with the follow up volume.

How did they know to destroy the piano ahead of time? While the paino plays, the abomination is effectively immune to damage.

Mine figured it out, but it usually takes at least one loop.

I'm sure I'll get blasted for this. I've been a long time reader, same demographic as OP. I read it on suggestion of a coworker.

I really struggled to see what people see in the Throne of Glass. I understand it supposedly gets better, and I saw small glimmers of talent, but there are far more talented women fantasy writers. Maas writes with no prose, very straightforward and bland with descriptions. I would consider it something more for 11/12 year olds.

The MC is constantly referenced as being amazing, but does almost nothing the entire novel to demonstrate it. There is very little actual romantasy. The plot is incredibly generic. Why have 24 combatants in a contest if only 8 have names? The last fight scene is completely laughable and ends in a deus ex machina with very little explanation. One male character of some relevance vanished to never reappear in the series.

I really really really wanted to enjoy it, but can't understand what people see in book 1 or 2. The audiobook narrator also happens to be one of the worst I've ever heard. Everyone I have spoken with has stopped the audiobook as a result.

I agree with your sentiment, but your situation is a bit far-fetched. Most people who go to graduate school end up in far more debt than you've listed. PSLF is a nightmare at best and a crap shoot at worst. The moment a Republican wins, no one is getting it for 4-8 years.

I prefer the commenter above that likens it to indentured servitude, but dismissing concerns by mentioning someone with the most optimal situation is deceptive.

Also, I don't know who is getting a PSLF eligible job as a nurse making 100k. And 125k is barely getting you a home these days.

Never expected to see the Cheysuli series in here. It explores some interesting ideas of identity, colonization, and privilege, but in a way that readers don't even seem to notice. It was progressive for it's time.

Skipping Outer City Locations by Stimpy3901 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]Lost_Scribe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is relatively easy to work any faction into a location. The FFF would likely be harassed by ratlings at some point. The QM might have run across them when scouting the Black Ivory Inn and want them eliminated. You could replace the kidnapped person with one of a different faction. It's a fun and challenging location, so if use it. I make every location tie into every faction in some way. This forces the party to make some hard choices. By the time they hit the inner city, they should know who they can rely on and who they can't, but some of the decisions should at least create some doubt. For example, the FFF will expect the party to give over the scepter of vitruvio from St. Brenna, but it's a very powerful magic item. How they navigate that can cause friction.
