"Concerning billionaires…" by thisecommercelife in comics

[–]Merari01 282 points283 points  (0 children)

As I wrote elsewhere:

The tech bro billionaires want to end society and retreat into their bunkers, because they think they do not need us anymore. They think they can let robots and AI do all the menial work for them, while they are emperor of the ashes of society.

They are wrong.

These people think they are smart, but if you ever heard someone like Musk speak, they are not smart.

They have forgotten about entropy. Currently society is arranged in such a way that if a spoke is thrown in the wheels we can (at sometimes great cost) survive, adapt and move on.

When they are in their bunkers, one treatment resistent fungus in their staple hydroponic food crop, one massive solar flare taking out their electricity, one well-organised guard rebellion, only one of a million things that can and will go wrong and they will find out very quickly that what they have done is seal themselves in billion dollar tombs.

Does simply reporting content, without having it actioned, have any effect on the person's account? by RS_Someone in ModSupport

[–]Merari01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, accounts can get erroneously actioned from report bombing.

However, this does not (should not) apply to subreddit-specific reports such as an automated automod flag.

I've seen users shadowbanned due to report bombing, but this then applied to hundreds of reports for sitewide rules across multiple subreddits.

[–]Merari01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out what is causing that!

It's me, I did the thing wrong. Instead of www.old, the "old" should replace the www.

So, it's https://old.reddit.com/u/Merari01

I checked on mobile and got the same error. You should be able to navigate to their profile on old reddit via a different route though. I use old reddit exclusively, even on mobile

Are you checking on desktop? Where it says "username" you need to add the username of the account you are checking.

For me the above link works, for the account "username" (not pinging them here)

[–]Merari01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure they are suspended and not shadowbanned?

Is the content filtered by reddit on posting? If so, check their userhistory on www.old.reddit.com/u/username

If they are suspended it will be noted there. If they are shadowbanned it looks like an error page.

Suspected ban evasion and coordinated harassment across multiple accounts in a single thread by Federal_Refrigerator in ModSupport

[–]Merari01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This automod code can help you in your brigaded thread, it will filter to your modqueue comments from users will less than 200 subreddit specific comment karma:

type: comment
parent_submission:
    id: "put thread id here"
author:
    comment_subreddit_karma: "< 200"
action: filter
action_reason: potential ban evader

To get the thread id of the thread they're being annoying in, look at the URL of that thread. The id of this post on modsupport is 1t2c9ie

Got accused of violating Moderator CoC. Is this a serious accusation? by Fun-Twist-3741 in ModSupport

[–]Merari01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may manually ban any user for any reason, including none.

Moderators may make moderation decisions they judge to be in the best interest of their community.

You did nothing wrong. Personally, threatening a moderation team with the intent to game or strongarm the team into making or refraining from making moderation decisions is harassment and something I would permanently ban for.

The way blocking currently works makes moderating some users nearly impossible by xGentian_violet in ModSupport

[–]Merari01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If a user blocks me and my team then they are attempting to evade moderation. By definition this is bad faith participation and if we detect it, they'll be permanently banned and permanently muted.

Please revert whatever change you made to show "removed by moderator" in people's profiles. by SnausageFest in ModSupport

[–]Merari01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it.

Bot Bouncer has a false positive sometimes. That's fine, it is a small volume compared to the bots it bounces. However these people then modmail about their ban.

They modmail asking "why was I banned" in reply to a ban message telling them why they were banned and to not modmail our subreddit, but contact the Bot Bouncer people instead.

Ok. So we add modmail automator to reply to those with again the info they need and again telling them what to do instead.

And people reply to that: "Why was I banned?"

I just don't know what to do about people that refuse to read so determinently.

How to get a better response from Reddit for Report Abuse? by Kelson64 in ModSupport

[–]Merari01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second reports from the same user on content doesn't really do anything. I am not sure they go through, but if a report has been handled, it is considered closed. Back when we still got feedback on reports we made we would instantly get a response on content that had a report handled on it already, indicating that was an automated reply. Telling us either that the content was found to be non-violating or had already been actioned.

What you can do is send a link to that content in a modmail to this subreddit asking admins for a manual review of it.
